    Also worth a visit in springtime when the area is full of bluebells, which make great backgrounds for the reds ;)

    Another great episode of the Dan and Pops show. I love reddies, many fond memories in Scotland and in particular Snaizeholme woods on a guided photo shoot. I was sat on a low wall, having my lunch and a brew when one little fella just stood about 2 foot away in that begging pose they have, so I offered him some bread but had to drop it in front of him. He ate it and next thing I know he's tapping my boot for more. Always a great day with Reddies.

Great that you were able to see the Reds so close and get some decent shots despite the light , loved it , cheers fellas.

    We found The Dingle on a visit to Anglesey just over 2 years ago. It has become a must visit again place each time we stay in Snowdonia now. As you did, we found that the light can be very poor under the canopy (although the inhabitants don't worry). I was using a Z 100-400 and Z9 @ 1/80th or slower with auto ISO hitting 25,600 most of the time. (the 800 pf was way too long!) Still got some very nice images with some help from Topaz though :). Hugh and William are both very knowledgeable and happy to offer lots of interesting facts and information about the Red Squirrel. Looking forward to next May for another visit (or two).

      Thanks very much Steve. Pops has a very similar setup to yourself and used his 100-400 whilst he was there. In all honesty I would try my 24-70 next time I go and aim for some wide angle shots.
      Glad you to have found this magical place and best of luck for your next visit.

    A lovely vid Dan. It would be great if the reds could prosper and take back areas the grey squirrels now dominate...wishful thinking I guess. If I ever visit Dingle I think a 70 - 200. 2.8 will be in my bag. Thanks for a very informative video. Regards to you and Pops. Ted. Nottm.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  10 місяців тому

      Thank you so much Gerald, always appreciate it.
      Yes I did use exposure compensation of +0.7. As a rule I add compensation for dark subjects and minus for light. I think this is really important when using auto ISO.
      All the best 👍🏻

    • @geraldgill2416
      @geraldgill2416 10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for reply appreciate info. for the price of a coffee for yourself and pop's I have an unrelated question.
      After following your Mull adventures I am booked on The Lady Jayne for 3 trips early next year. Question what lens / lenses do you advise? those Eagles looked pretty close, I planned to use Z400mm 2.8 T.C. but concerned about that huge wingspan.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  10 місяців тому

      @@geraldgill2416 a question that we get asked regularly, the answer I’m afraid is not that straight forward. Here goes;
      If you are lucky and have reasonably calm conditions then you will get away with the 400mm and even if the eagles come in closer than you’d like you can get some really nice tight portraits concentrating on the head and magnificent outstretched talons (yes you’ll possibly clip the wings but will have shots that stand out from the many many similar dive shots). The reason calm conditions are important is to handhold the 400mm on a moving boat whilst tracking a fast bird is very challenging.
      Pops uses the 100-400 which gives him the flexibility, I often use the 70-200 with a 1.4TC attached again for flexibility. I have used the 500mm f4 in the past and got some really different results but it’s a risk.
      Sorry not the most straightforward of answers, I would probably say 300mm is the optimal focal length if that’s in your lens choices.
      All the very best with your trip and please mention the channel to Martin and Alex 😊

    hello Pops and Dan, a nice video with nice pictures but we see the harms of feeding by people who don't understand anything about it and who are full of good will, it would be better for them to get closer to nature protection organizations
