I just noticed that this sweater, minus the draw stings, is actually in the beginning of For Your Eyes Only. The commander of the boat that sinks in the beginning. "What the devil is going on here?" just before the ship is struck by the water mine. Same design, neckline, even has his white collar showing under it. I kind of prefer the older version of the sweater seen then.
It’s absolutely amazing you were able to receive this from NPeal. I will say this is probably the first item from Bond that I am truly and I mean truly thinking about it. Don’t know if this will grow on me later. Nevertheless, ordering.
David,
A blue “wooly pully” would have been issued to the RAF or R Navy. Commando trained personnel generally wear a green “wooly pully” with the addition of the Army commando or Bde commando flash. The jumpers never came with the drawstrings and I remember having to thread a shoe lace through the collar to achieve this effect, at the start of my military career. The draw string was used to tighten up the collar to smarten up the look whilst wearing a GS or CS95 shirt underneath. I believe this type of jumper has been discounted and replaced by the ubiquitous MTP uniform solution. Love the review and channel, keep up the good work.
James
My God Dave I almost spit my breakfast out laughing at that intro lolol. It was awesome. Great review man. I need that sweater!
Looks just fine on James Bond , But in real life , no it just looks like my old jumpers i had for sea scouts back in the 80's ....
Tony umm don’t need to lose weight Tony
Oh hey a fellow sea scout
To be fair, everything looks good on james bond
I miss him wearing his navy suits. I think his clothing for the movie isn't good. The last 4 Bond movies, his clothes look good.
ive been waiting for this video, thank you very much you deliver and make me happy every time. 👍🏽
Probably the only one to say this... but not fussed on it really. It looks like it's on back to front.. and uncomfortable. I also think the shoulder patches go over to the neck too much... in my opinion..
Yeah, it's one of those things that look amazing on screen but are not really made to wear on a daily basis
I have to agree. Looks really well on screen, not so sure about an everyday wear ...
I’m not fussed on it either
Agreed completely. Looks great on Craig on the poster (super tailored and I'm sure image editted) that said in person on a regular joe it looks a bit awkward.
Its a Merino Cashmere Mix- there is nothing more comfortable on this Planet.
Dear David. Thank you for spending the time to make such quality videos. I really dig your enthusiasm - and appreciate it. I received my npeal sweater a week ago, and wear it all the time. I love it. I'm really debating about getting my hands on the combat trousers . . . I'm in Calgary, Canada, and 200 pounds might as well be a million dollars . . . High Five from Calgary!
Great video David. The poster inspired me to get that style of jumper but I went for the green and black frugal versions. Invisible Bond sometimes means copying without copying.
Finally got my link today. Purchased and will be here in 3-4 days. So excited! Thanks David for review.
I must say, I was truly excited for this piece since I found out about it! I wish I had 500$ laying around because I’m drooling over it so much haha. Really enjoyed this video!
Fantastic as always David. A super-cool iconic N Peal sweater. Bond/Daniel Craig and David Zaritsky waxing lyrical. Just perfect.
The neck is too weird for me
Bond had not be able to push new clothing trend for long time now....
It understand if you want to wear that kind of neck in freezing space indoor...
Fantastic opening. Great team up there with Joe.
I was on the fence on this piece before.. now I’m here N peal please take my money lol
Thanks for putting this up as I pre registered to buy one and never recieved the email this morning. Managed to order one!👍
I love that sweater, especially that boat cut gives it character! Luckily for us plebeians who can't afford to spend 500 bucks on a sweater, there are frugal alternatives in basically every shop with military gear!
Draw string looks a little out of place if I'm to be honest.
I like the urban combination of the sweater, chinos and boots David.
The drawstring is functional when it's cold with jacket and a nice scarf for a fashionable "pushed" look.
Military clothing is where all (male, for the most part) clothing originates. The suit, overcoat, leather jacket, bomber jacket, formal or work shoes and boots, plimsolls and so on. The N Peal is nice but for myself i prefer the actual military version. My own (clothing) golden rule: if it's utilitarian, go as close to the source as you can get.
Totally respect that!
I said ‘all clothing’! Should’ve said ‘a lot of modern clothing’. Sorry!
When I first saw the poster I loved the sweater but hated the boat cut neckline, it just looked wrong especially against the white henley, but seeing it close up and being worn in your review I have to admit I'm really warming to it, unfortunately at the price it maybe too rich for my blood, but yes I would be very happy to have this in my Bond wardrobe!
I love how you even bloused the boots haha
Thought it looked off, but the small definitely helps the look. Good job on the review!
Love the intro and the channel. Good stuff.
Fantastic review, David. I found the size comparison really useful. I think I'm a little chunkier than you, but I've always struggled with the same problem of being on the cusp of small/medium. I'm much more confident about what size to purchase after this!
Can I ask what size you went with? And how you liked it? I’m unsure if I should go down or not.
If only that neck line in the front was just a bit lower it would in my opinion look more balanced front to back. As is, it seems like it's digging into your neck giving it an odd appearance.
Not sure how I feel about this one yet. It’s way overpriced for more limited versatility imo. Will have to see one in person.
Sure we can find a cheaper alternative
Stunning video and very nice review! thank you very much David. I love this sweater....Do you know when it will go out for sale?
I love this sweater, seriously thinking of getting it. Looks great. One thing I've noticed on the poster is that the edges of the collar on the shoulders have a squared off look that makes a big difference to the look. I'm not sure whether the shirt underneath has some kind of dark strip to it or if he is wearing another darker top over the white shirt but there is definitely something else going on there
I think it might be the suspenders poking out that give that squared off look
I love the wooly-pully sweater! Used to wear one when I was still in uniform. With that, I'm not a fan of the draw string, doesn't look right to me.
Agree with the drawstring - I think it's one ugly sweater lol
It looks for teenagers with the string, I just purchased an original wooly-pully and I liked it a lot, a fourth of the price of the N Peal
Nailed the intro !
Got the sweater and the Rag and Bone Henley myself. Large fits me perfectly.
"This never happened to the other fella"
You two guys kill me.
I haven't paid attention before until this sweater became a thing, but I have been watching some of the other Bond films leading up to April and have noticed similar sweaters on other characters in both For Your Eyes Only and in Spectre. They have definitely gone to this style before, just not on Bond himself.
This is certainly an iconic piece. One I hope Royale Filmwear will attempt at a version in the near future.
There's something not quite right with the sweater though. It looks like the one DC wore in the film had been custom made for his body.
The back of the jumper needs to be pulled down, DC's neck looks slightly different because you can see the edge of the braces.
The boat neck on the jumper really suits some and really doesn’t suit others. It’s a works or doesn’t piece of clothing.
Great vlog David! I was trying to think what I would wear with it myself and all I can think of is gray slacks and brown chukka boots. I think I might pass on this one. Looks great on you though!
Great review.
Just got mine David- ABSOLUTELY love it, Bought two, one for daily use and the other for the collection. N.Peal gives you an awesome collaboration companion booklet with all the drawings and concepts for the movie as well.
I agree with you- classic piece that can do everything! I've been wearing it religiously Cardio, to work, and been getting complements left and right... the only negative is the price, but it's N.Peal and James Bond😎
you don't have a section on your website to upload pics do you?
Looks great! What size do you usually take? I'm guessing for a trim fit that shows it off better go a size down?
Nice review! I might’ve missed it, but do you think you’re going to get the new Omega or do a impressions video on it?
I like the look! I have two armani exchange sweaters with similar necklines (boat or scoop or whatever it's called).. one snaps open at the shoulder, very sexy! I wear them with a deep V so the undershirt doesn't show.
The n.pearl sweater went on sale a few days ago so thx for the review.
Mine will ne arriving finally tomorrow!! No time to wait. It will have it's first outing for No time to die in 2 weeks time!
I wish I had kept my issued NATO jumpers now.....
Great video (as always) David.
"Do you expect me to sweater?" "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to clothier!" Epic sweater and another fantastic video.
On the poster the front of the neck opening is lower (can you pull it down?) and the neck area is squared-off, which improves the look (extra fabric added)? The wrinkles around the arm hole need to press out.
For what the jumper is intended to be, it is a fantastic military piece. Though not quite an invisible Bond moment this time around, I think at the very least one would need to be doing some sort outdoor activity to pull this off.
I think this kind of tight sweater only looks good on a fit and buffed guy with muscle. Not so good on skinny, fat or avarage guy.
The sweater just went live on line and at 465$ they can keep it. I would’ve gladly paid 250$ maybe 300 but almost 500$ for a sweater....
Nice review! Which pants/chinos do you wear? Looks cool.
I never noticed the draw strings before... it looks goofy with them, like a kids sweatshirt, to be honest. Also, how is that tactical? Enemies could grab you by that!😂
David, Is the Henley the same size SMALL you did the review on?
fun fact: the boat neck was designed for sailors if they fell over board, when they got out the water they could quickly take the jumper off as wet clothes can kill.
Which is funny cuz I just bought this sweater and the collar and cuffs are not stretchy. Getting the sleeves on or off is literally like trying to slip out of handcuffs, like I literally have to forcefully get the cuff around my thumb first and then the rest of my hand. Same for getting your head in/out. There is nothing quick about it. Regardless, the sweater looks fantastic.
Dave, where did you buy the clothes of 007 ?
It would look far better if the shoulder padding was smaller or removed all together
Could you comment about the washing instructions? Is it only cold water or it can be washed on warm water as well?
Hey David. I need your input on a specific Bond item. A document or portfolio carrying case with the Bond logo. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks brother.
Q? I have a Henley sweater but someone STOLE the clothing tag. What can I do?
The henley actually suits you very well !
The small looks way better on you man! Size down for a more tailored look. Great review.
As a tailor for many years and fascinated about bond you needed a size small doesn’t mean your small just means the sizes have changed over the years
Nice review again Dave. About the piece, I'm not keen on it. I feel a regular Forces style jumper with a round neck would have been better. The type you can purchase from Army & Navy stores. In the reality why would a military tactical piece of clothing be manufactured by an exclusive designer brand? Its a little too style over substance for me . imo
Amazon sell the original Commando sweater for about £20 and it looks a lot better..
@@jaybee70 Jay thats exactly my point. This style of sweater wouldn't be that expensive/designer. Imagine the cost to the Taxpayer issuing these out to Navy personnel...its unrealistic. I jest. The Amazon one would look more authentic. And on Craig equally as good too.
@@dtuk22 A $500 sweater is too much but a $300,000 Aston-Martin is fine.
The neck on the medium looks far better for you. Arms too. However the shoulders on the small and length on the sleeves on the small are spot on. Everyone’s body is unique. Would love to see the medium tailored for you
Is it slim fit? I’m usually a size M but not sure whether to get S. What size are you usually?
hello The Bond Experience, can you help me find what tactical pants is Daniel Craig wearing in No Time To Die? I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Thank you in advance.
This intro alone is worth an Oscar. Incredible performances, Joe and David!
When are we getting a video on the young Madeleine multi coloured hooded jacket from the snow scene..think it’d look great on you.
I like the sweater quite a lot! The traps look great in this one
Nice intro, well done.
It’s a strange jumper for sure and well made obviously, but this is more of a cosplay piece than something you would actually wear
I guess it's safe to assume these run a little large? I'm a 38 chest, 30 waist and would be afraid even the small would look large on me. And I'm still not completely sold on the drawstring. Probably because I've never owned an item quite like this, haha.
Noooo way, maybe 20 minutes ago i resceived a frugal version from the postman 😂
How tall are you and what size did you get? Thanks
"ARCTIC SHORE SWEATER" by Helly Hansen looks similar, great alternative.
Halloween came early this year?
The neck line is the unique part of this sweater along with its colour. The draw strings for me seems like you are wearing a hoodie but without a hood. I'm not sure how practical it is and I hope no one is ever going to tie a bow with it. The price point is not bad but I would wait for Dan to make one instead. I'm sure NPeal will make this in other colours later just like the solden TF jacket. Is not exactly wearable in the office but is great for trhw weekend, but is an expensive piece to wear for the weekend.
I’m not a huge fan of it to be honest. They should have just stuck with the classic Royal Navy jumper without the silly neck line or the pull strings.
345 pounds sadly i bought something similar but way cheaper. Tnx for the tip with the henley
I really like your opening lol
David would be interesting to know the weight of the sweaters in grams
I don`t know why but I like this Sweater. I would wear it on Casual Friday in the Office or after the Gym.
I bought one from LL Bean - Blue with the elbow pads. It is similar and the quality is nice...and was something like $69...perhaps an inclusion on your next Bond on a Budget?
I would love this, but its $627 AU. Probably because Merino Wool and Cashmere are two of the top wools in the world!
Where to buy? The link isn't working
It seems that there is an important piece missing from the look. There is another clothing layer between the henley and the Npeal that looks like a charcoal-gray tshirt of some sort. Very evident in the official poster but also in the first trailer's Craig close ups. The look of the Npeal's neck-line is completely different without it.
I think what you're seeing there is likely the braces (suspenders) peeking out of the sweater's collar.
@@thegentlemanmysticisonrumb5890 I think you are right. Just saw that Empire photo again. Color looks identical.
Hi David, can you help me that nobody can seam to give me the correct answer. As a Bond expert can you tell me as far as i know James bond is a MI6 agent, He is often refered to as Commander Bond. I believe mens he has a naval back before he joined the secret service MI6. if he was Navel ,Can do you know & tell me was he a member of the SBS? Who serving as the Navies 'SAS' ?
Stunning piece and great video. Personally a little too military and iconic for my tastes, but I’m curious to see how it would pair with jackets, collared shirts, etc. Looking forward to Part 2!
Already thinking about the content in the Part 2....fun stuff to come!
@TheBondExperience oh contraire .. i did wear such style for many many years on a daily basis .. i even had uniform jackets matching the pants .. i still enjoy my baggy pants .. and i love the combo with the sweater .. if just the sweater would not be so expensive XD
I agree with most others in this comments section that it looks back-to-front and the neckline also looks odd. It makes sense that the costume designers modified the neckline by having his braces cut it short at the ends. Looks great in the movie stills and on N Peal models but not here. I suspect most people won’t suit this idiosyncratic jumper.
Also the toggles look bizarre.
Some great low cost alternatives from the Royal Navy surplus stores in the UK
Which weirdly, are much more authentic!
I need it in my life.
Woke up. Watched this video. Bought sweater.
What boots are those?
What ia the price
Is it just me, or does the neckline look different to the poster version?
I think you are right. Especially when DZ is wearing the small. Even in some of the photos the neckline covers more of the shoulders on DC. Something is up here. Not sure if DZ is wearing it oddly or if it’s the cut.
It's because Craig is wearing what look like suspenders, presumably for the duty belt, which show through bit at the neck line, producing a more squared-off look.
@@justinclark216 When I've since seen other pictures, it looks like the henley is pulled up past the collar a little bit more, showing more white, which makes it look different. Could be a combo of both
Love Bond,Love N Peal but not sure about this one to be honest.
The drawstring I find very out of place
I think you say it yourself in the video, it doesn't have the tailored Bond look (on you, at least). It looks very big and baggy in the arms, like there is way to much material. That being said I do love it though, it's very very cool and great video as always.
At 14.21 you can also see the Tan Zulu strap on his Omega.
LL Bean has a very, very similar Commando Sweater for $69. FYI. No need for Royale to do this one. LL Bean's are close enough.
Trevor Conklin It looks like they are all sold out right now, though it is a great looking sweater, and the crew neck makes more sense to me at least! Thanks, Mike
You're pretty smooth you want to try out for a TV sitcom I think it would've been a good Magnum PI.
I prefer to spend my money in the Mr white’s sweater ;-)
I recently bought it and the sweater is cool but the cuffs are a nightmare if you have big hands.
The material / fabric on the wrist does not stretch one bit
Yes! Just bought it and it's literally like trying to get out of handcuffs. Same for my head as well. But the sweater looks fantastic so worth it.
Wow!! This is a must have
