    Still struggling with breath so might try swim with my head out for a couple strokes to catch my breath every other length

      Yes, it can help you break away from possibly pressing your head down versus allowing your head/neck to relax as shown here:

    It’s funny how you explain this as though keeping your head UNDER water is the natural inclination. I panic just holding my breath and dunking my head underwater for 2 seconds. Almost drowning as a kid has given me a potentially lifelong phobia.

      I am 33 and only now have started learning swimming (had a phobia as almost drowned as a kid), the most difficult thing for me so far is to keep my head out of the water while swimming freestyle and thus be able to breathe.

      It is natural if you learnt freestyle from a coach and not on your own

      It is the natural position when lying stomach down like how you do during freestyle. I don't think you realize how much pressure it puts on your neck to do this stroke - It's not a sustainable position.

      It's great to hear that you've found a way to enjoy swimming that suits you! Above-water swimming is a wonderful option, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to this fantastic activity. Everyone has their own preferences and reasons for how they swim, and that's what makes it so special. Keep doing what feels right for you, and don't worry about the looks you might get - your comfort and enjoyment are what truly matter. 🏊‍♀️💦😊

    I’m trying for long time to do like this and bring my head over the water .. because my coach teached me with head under the water .. but she told me if I want to keep my head up , I have to make frog style with my legs , and I can’t because I have meniscus tears in both of my legs .. I need to breath while swiming because I only swim until now in shallow water and can’t go to the deep in the swimming pool

    Hello Coach
    Do we have to use flutter kick or doggy paddle while doing head up swim? Which is best to use. Also continuous kick is there or 2-3 kick per arm stroke.

    • @SWIMVICE

    How not sinking while head out ?

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  Рік тому

      Thanks for reaching out, Chery! To improve your head-out swimming, focus on a 6 beat kick, proper body alignment, and strong propulsion from your high-side arm. These techniques are all covered in our SWIMVICE Freestyle Program. Keep in mind that swimming with your head out of the water is only recommended for short periods, like lifeguard training or open water swimming. It's not efficient for long-term swimming. Hi there,
      Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you're facing a common challenge with breathing while swimming. Focusing on proper breathing technique can make a significant difference.
      Try to exhale gently through your nose and mouth while your face is submerged, then rotate your head to the side to take a breath. This can help prevent water from entering your nose. Practice and patience are key, and over time, you'll find a rhythm that works best for you.
      If you're interested in more tips and techniques, I have videos that address breathing and other aspects of swimming. Keep up the effort, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions!
      Happy swimming,
      Coach Mandy
