These always stood out to me for being easily the oldest trains I'd see on the regular anywhere near me, especially once Thameslink withdrew the Class 319s. I rarely if ever ride on Southern's services so I sadly never got to ride on one of these (they were finally withdrawn May 2022) but again, always interesting to see these relatively old-fashioned looking stalwarts of NSE's past alongside Networkers, Electrostars, Desiros, etc.
The Class 455s were a real workhorse on the Suburban networks in South West London and South London and parts of Surrey, Berkshire and West Sussex. The first time I went on one of those sets was with Network SouthEast going from Kew Bridge to Clapham Junction from 1989 to 1991 back in my early childhood. Then once again going from London Victoria and Battersea Park with Connex South Central in 2001 and then going between Chiswick to Clapham Junction and Clapham Junction to Byfleet & New Haw with South West Trains in 2003. They served very well with British Rail, Network SouthEast, South West Trains, Connex South Central, Southern and South Western Railway for an amazing 36 years of service. The only 2 problems with them is that they had no Air Conditioning especially in the hot weather during heatwaves and it gets too crowded on board especially during peak times (rush hour). I'm going to miss those old fellas when they get replaced by the amazing brand new Class 701 Aventra (which I do really like a lot) later this year and next year as well. We just got to move on with the times now and I wonder what Southern are going to do with their Class 455 sets next because they're getting old now as well? Well let's all find out and see shall we!
Well you had three extra years in the end, good old South Western. Looks like this is (FINALLY.) the year these trains get dropped. Traction motors sound nice from the outside but these things grind against the rails so loudly it's like it's trying to deafen you, so I'm mixed on it.
I know 455s becomes semi-fast services after 378s take metro stations. Also these 455s passed the stations which reminded of 317s! But too bad for 455s can running up to 75mph and no toilets! I heard pair of 317s been scrapped but their tailor coaches (also ex-321s converted 320s) should saved for 455s running on long journey services (could replaced 508 tailors).
Reckon the Class 455 and Class 456 are likely to permanently withdrawn and possibly scrapped when South Western Railway replaces them with the Class 701 Aventras
Well, the 455's on Southern and South Western Railways are being withdrawn. Southern 1st last day 14th May 2022 and South Western Railway are being gradually withdrawn. 377's are replacing the southern 455's and new trains 701's are replacing the South Western Railways 455s.
At 2:03, I never seen a 12 car Class 455 in my life this actually the first time tbh, I've only seen 4 to 8 coaches but 12 never, but have you ever seen the 13 Coach class 377 its rare but that was a old time.

Actually gonna miss the 455s on southwestern. Yes they are slow and are 38 years old but are still reliable at least in the end unlike others

That would be strange as the 455 is 75mph max compared to the 313 which is faster.
