  • Welcome back
    If your getting P0128 on your 6.4 powerstroke. You most likely have a failed thermostat.
    I didn't get the best video of removing the black bracket that goes around the thermostat housing but I feel like I gave good details on how to remove from engine. I'd love to hear from the engineers that were involved in designing the thermostat housing. I feel it could have been designed better for service. Once the housing is out replacing the thermostat is pretty easy.
    The installation process is nothing special. Just take your time installing the 4 bolts and install everything reverse of removal.
    Hopefully this job goes smooth for you. I remember the first phew times doing this job it was very frustrating getting the black bracket out and back in.
    The thermostats were supplied by the customer on this job. Usually I use Ford/Motorcraft parts for diesel repairs. The thermostats came from Autozone. I'm pretty sure they are in the same bag that they come in from Ford.
    So you may be just fine using thermostats from any parts store.
    If you need the clip for the coolant hose

    So glad I found your video. I watched one a few years back and it was so disappointing to see how much disassembly the dude had to do that I just shelved the thermostats lol. I haven't had good heat for 4 years haha. Now I see that I can tackle this, no problem. Thanks dude.

    Thanks!!! Best video I’ve seen on these thermostats! Took me a bit longer (fighting with that bottom hose clip & that bracket, but still I know that it save me a ton, & I’ll know how to do it the next time!

      @ShowMe Repair sorry I finally got time to finish this video.
      I thought my 6.9 ford thermostat was a bugger.😂
      Do you have any idea why they used 2 thermostats on the 6.4?
      Thanks for the hair pin part number, would that part fit gas engines too. IE coyote?
      The blue rag idea is classic, works great too.

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  Рік тому +1

      Only reason I could think of 2 thermostats is for redundancy. And or the for flow. 2 small holes can flow the same as one big hole. The 2 holes are more compact.

    I bought a non running 2010 6.4L F-350....I plugged my OBD in it and it threw up the P0128 code...Could this be a reason that is preventing the engine from cranking? It also has 3 bad Glow plugs which I'm looking into doing as well...Just doing research to see if this is the exact reason why its not cranking.

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  Рік тому

      Glow plugs and p0128 is not the cause for no start.
      Can you scan tool read data or just a scan tool?

    08 6.4, I keep blowing antifreeze out of the resovior cap. I have a new water pump, thermostats (6 months ago) and it is head studded. No oil in resovior or white smoke. Any thoughts?

      @showmerepair so I replaced the cap, check the level of the coolant before I left as well as drying off everything I could see wet, drove it for 15 miles or so semi hard, no more fluid. I also checked the dipstick and it is full and looks completely normal. I honestly believe I had a bad cap. I will see how it does in the next couple days.
      Edit: the cap I had on it was not oem, and it did not have a pressure release hole in the top of it.

    Just take the dam cooling system out, and be done with it. Stop trying to find a shortcut. By the time everything is said and done I doubt you will have saved any time. But the frustration level will be much lower.

      You can just move the AC and trans. Coolers out of the way. And just take the fan off to. Zap strap them back. Just watch them, don't drop tools or anything on them.
