    This sure beats having yet another old crappy unused parking lot that gathers blowing trash and broken bottles. I like it! :)

    Great episode for the backyard / urban gardener.
    Looking forward to your "bee videos," John.

      Considering that most people are eating crap wrapped in plastic, this would still be a huge step up. Also, if the soil is deep enough the roots wouldn't come in direct contact and I wouldn't be concerned with anything leaching up into the soil, watering will keep it down and wash it away.

      I guess if there is pooling of water that is possible, but then they would have problems keeping their rows mounded and would end up with a muddy mess. If that's the case nothing is going to grow anyway. I still think the risk is minimal, at best. I guess it would be a case by case kind of thing and would not be quick to dismiss what could be beneficial to many. You obviously disagree, and that's fine. We can agree to disagree. :)

    to remineralize the soil you can also use stinging nettles. the best you can find besides hemp. hemp heps them slugs and bugs away because of the etheric oils theyr spreding . sorry for my bad english :D

    @grow man
    no need to till proper compost/good soils. tilling breaks up the fungal nets and disturbs worms and microbes etc.

    But how are they controlling weeds? I farm surrounded by woodland, and it's really a never ending battle to control the weeds that sprout up. It's practically a full time job to keep my gardens weed free, and not treating them with chemicals.

      Make a beer trap. There are videos on youtube. Basically, it's a shallow dish set in the soil with beer in it. Slugs and snails are attracted to beer. The snails/slugs drown in the dish.

    So how would they till up the soil for next year if there's plastic underneath it? Seems like they could've got the asphalt removed

      Well I am a Hydro guy these days. I do some potted plants in soil ( organic ) but mainly Hydro. Anytime I've had a garden in soil I have always tilled the dirt. There are plenty of commercial farmers that plow and till their soil. I do not have any experience in raised bed gardening so that is why I watch this channel to learn more :)

      Back to Eden gets way too much credit for something that has been around for quite a long time. Ruth Stout, Fukuoka, and Jean Pain are just a few individuals that have been gardening with the no-till system for decades .
