I'm so happy to see a minimalist who has a closet with some clothes in it! Watching you makes me feel like it's okay to keep things you love or "may" need while addressing the possible regret that may be felt during decluttering. I also like your intentional and realistic approach to decluttering, which I find very inspiring.
Even when I was in fantastic shape in my 30s, low rise jeans were tough to wear because my mom stomach wasn’t completely going away after having 3 kids. Mid rise were OK. But now, as a grandma, I’m happy to have my high rise jeans.
Found your channel two days ago and have already decluttered things I never wear, bought a striped mock turtleneck and two pairs of lug boots, one leopard print with 3 buckles and the other green camouflage. LOL I used to wear lugs years ago when they first came out. I’m 59. I loved them! Been binging your videos. I really love your wardrobe. My style has been bohemian for years but I discovered I really like dressing in greens, grays, charcoals and browns. I’ve always been edgy though. Even wearing boho I always added something edgy to it. So looking at my closet I have crochet, skirts, peasant tops, vests, beads, hats, then on the other extreme sweatshirts, cargo, camouflage, hoodies etc. 🤣 I’m a boot addict (71 pairs) and jacket ho (over 100). I’m definitely NOT a minimalist and never will be, nor do I want to be. Back to binging your vids. ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my gosh 7 thumbs up! Tickle my heart. Hey gals, the lug boots I bought are on Cato’s website. Get them while they are in stock. I’ve been looking for camo boots for a while and wasn’t able to find a color and pattern that I liked, until I saw these. I already have 3 pairs of leopard combat boots, but when I saw these with the lug sole and the buckles (I’m a sucker for buckles) I knew I had to have them. Plus it’s a great leopard color and pattern too. Some leopard pattern are just ugly.
Love seeing your great wardrobe! At age 60, I wish I had kept so many things I decluttered from my wardrobe over the years! Personally I would never get rid of jeans that fit great…they will come back in style and vintage is always cooler!
I’m totally the opposite of a capsule wardrobe person. I save all my loved purchases. They are all classic and can be mixed with a newer trend. But since I feel like everyone is dressing the same right now, I love to shop my closet for a different look. I admire people like you that have a mission.
I literally saw an article this morning that low rise was coming back in - I was ecstatic because hi rise jeans give me stomach ache and it's hard to get any new low or even mid rise ones right now! I'm sooooo envious of your denim stack. It's taken me a lifetime to get to the stage where I have like 4 pairs that fit me well AND I love the colours and textures. All yours are just gorgeous. If you even think of getting rid of those lovely nsf patched low rise ones, SEND THEM TO MEEEE 😂
Greatly appreciate the walk through on the decluttering process. Done with intention. This is my upvote for a video focused on styling wide leg pants. Thanks!
Ditch the raggedy camo sweats. Replace with upscale version. Ditch the wide stripe blouse. Always keep the gstar c staq. They are a wonder. Maybe pare down one more black skinny. I’m cheering you on! If you never wear the two varsity jackets I would keep the leather and move on the other one. Sorry I’m rather ruthless by reputation to move on with things that don’t get touched within a years time. Good on you Emily! Some people suggest boxing away the questionable pieces. I did this and shouted for joy when I recovered my black blazer. I’ve only worn it once since, got a compliment on it and know it is a classic and timeless piece.
Great that you do it based on what you love, and not only what you have worn within the last 6, 12 or 24 months, but is still realistic about what your style is. If we really love it, we should keep things we love and then find ways to restyle them. 🙂 But also agree we should not have a lot of aspirational items filling up in our wardrobe and life 🙂
Hi Emily a new subscriber and thrilled I found your amazing channel. U're incredibly stylish and in my humble opinion one of the edgiest and best dressed ladies on UA-cam. 70 this year and luv to dress with style and edginess. Intend to binge watch your videos.
I've learned over the years that if something was ever my favorite, I should keep it. Between different shape fluctuations, new lifestyle or location situations, and different shirt styling preferences, I have definitely seen pieces 'go dark' in my wardrobe for 2-3 years and then come back to be my absolute favorite again. This is especially true for me since most of the things I own are thrifted and really hard to re-find. If the hassle of finding a new version in the future is more than you want to deal with- screw the declutter rules and definitely keep them!
I love this video because I see it’s as hard for you as it is for me to get rid of clothes we love even if we don’t wear them as often as we do others. I’m smiling just watching you explain your decisions.
I just found you today after cleaning out my closet. I have 30 empty hangers. I'm in a style rut, especially since I retired from teaching 4 years ago. I lime the edgy look, so...I will watch and learn. I kept two pair.of black skinny jeans (one dark, one charcoal) - I'm still hesitant to let them go.
Haha I was rewatching last year's yesterday! Good timing em! I'm trying to scrounge up the motivation to do a closet organization and declutter. Mebbe today is the day!! Happy Sunday!
Thanks for motivation and showing your realistic amount of clothes. I understand how hard it is to declutter loved pieces. I have an obsession with some types of clothes too, but it feels too many, so I should get rid of some.
I wear my Blue pinstriped blazer all year round with Roll neck, or Tees , with my blue or grey jeans, I find the white stripe looks grey when I wear that colour Jean, loving your wardrobe of clothes. My colourway 🇬🇧❤️ p.s when not sure i have a a maybe pile & view it every month, some I am grateful I have kept… but if not worn throw after 6 months 😉xx
So nice to see a youtube styling video that expresses the angst even we minimalists feel when "decluttering". Your edgy but eclectic style ideas are refreshing. Why is it, when we find a perfect pair of jeans or the perfect t-shirt we never buy enough of them at the git-go? I have found numerous tops and bottoms I love, at thrift stores, but when I go to the websites, the styles are discontinued. Boo Hoo. Oh well, that's when the imagination kicks in. Thanks for all you do and share.
I started decluttering when I discovered your channel mid-2021. I made good progress, but still have a way to go! You’re doing much better than I am! I discovered Everlane through you, I’m very happy with the items I’ve purchased.
I am 3:25 min into it and noooooooooo....the varsity jacket...lol...I was going to say, when the weather is right force yourself to style it and wear it and when decide....but oh well 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So, black cardi is timeless...put it back 😄😄😄😄 And, yes, you are stylist you need some extra items for work. I can totally see it. Keep the low rise for now. The items you are not sure about, quarantine them for 6 mo or so. This was interesting considering that I have 3 pairs of jeans. .....lol
Love your channel! I just went through all of my jeans yesterday. It was tough! I eliminated some, and I'm going to try and "update" a couple with adding a little distress here and there. I need multiple days for the closet declutter. Hats off to you for doing it so quickly :)
I love that you’re a Minnesotan! I was born and raised in Red Wing, MN, and grew up spending a ton of time in the Twin Cities. Stay warm, I hear it’s extra cold there right now! ❤️
Low rise are coming back - keep them!! Personally, I think all denim should be kept, the styles always come around again. Well worn denim that's broken in is the best. 👍
Citizens Jeans. Make yourself wear them this week. See how you feel in them. Do you still love them? Would you buy again? Do you feel great in them? Then decide.
You could dye the cardigan a dark brown, dark blue or even try a less than full bottle of black dye for some form of grey? Worth a try if it’s great material🤗
Just found this video and 2 minutes in I’m already obsessed just because you live in MN!! I love finding fashion videos with people who actually live in a place where they get winter (really -20 is not uncommon and there’s snow on the ground for months winter). I tend to fall on the more feminine fashion side but love adding edge through my boots and layers! Just gave you a follow on Instagram as well.
Hello and Happy New Year!!! New subscriber here from Vancouver, WA. and OMG! You are fantastic! I LOVE your style and this channel! Literally binge watched today! Love your hair too! I’m a short hair pixie girl for life 😜 so glad I found you! I am 55 and still struggling to find my actual style and how to go about it. Watching you has already helped me! Keep up the great content! Will definitely be telling people about your channel!
Fun video! I had to laugh at the ”Portland” coat. I live in the PDX and don’t really have a rain jacket anymore because I never wore it. I’ve gotten rid of bags of clothes due to 50 pound weight loss. This last one was virtually never worn or with tags-too much online ordering….lol. Felt good to pass it on once I quit avoiding it.
I love low and mid rise jeans! I would keep them. I am a rectangle shape and I find that if anything is tight around the middle it is just not flattering or comfortable. However, low rise are tricky to style because you need longer shirts!
I have the same Everlane striped top in tobacco and black and feel the same way about it. Is it me? I'll be watching to see what you do with it. ?? This was a goodin.
I just did one because I gained weight and the pants that I can no longer fit in or really ever hope to fit in are in the donation bags. No point to keep clothes that remind me of when I had better metabolism.
I've seen several video makers say low-rise jeans will be a 'thing' this spring/summer but almost all the ladies who made those videos said they won't be wearing them! That probably doesn't help much, hahaha.
I have started my clear out. Beginning with my sweatshirts/hoodies, joggers and work clothes (weekend warehouse work). Its hard because I wear all of these things. I mostly got rid of joggers that dont fit. Sadly I kept 32 sweatshirt/hoodies. But I do honestly wear them. Next up is my sweaters, tops and bottoms (everyday and day job clothes). This is all part of my "casual closet" I think my dress closet will be easier 😊I hope. Shoes will definitely be the hardest.
I bought the Everlane puff joggers- oversized. Just love love love them. But, dried them on low as instructed and they shrunk! So they fit vs oversized and you are right, not as flattering. I tried to repurchase but out of stock. Heartbroken! Please get them to restock! Customer service said no plans to restock now. I loved wearing as you styled w black blazer. Help, if you have any influence. Or, if any viewers have size large and don’t like, I will buy them!
I do believe low rise are already on their way baaaaaack Emily 🤓 my absolute favorite thing you own is the vertical striped black and white Scotch and Soda pants 🤩 I love my camo sweatpants, I wore them so much I got 2 more pairs. They go with Chelsea boots a d turtlenecks, red hoodies, and well everything I own. Btw, you didn’t count the turtlenecks in the black section of shirts, caught you 😁 I have been trying to figure out why I look so bad in light grey, I just cannot wear it, it matches the dark circles around my eyes and basically makes me look so strange. Dark grey is definitely workable though. Do you think you’ll ever talk about colors to buy? I have green eyes, olive skin, and naturally a brunette, when I went white/pink I still cannot wear navy or light grey, ha ha!
This video should be spirited by thredup or similar. Do you donate local or do you resell? I'm sure your viewers would love to follow you on a resell app/website!
Doing the same today, is hard because I work in healthcare so I wear scrubs for work and haven't really go out much in the last two years do to the current circumstances. At this point I don't even know what is functional and what I am just emotional attached to.
I would like to believe that you would absolutely be wearing anything you style. Your style is so authentic. Just wanted to share my opinion, I would prefer if you didn`t keep things just for styling videos, if you don`t actually wear them.
I would like to see your collection of socks, imagine they are amazing. Accually thanks to you Emily I do not freeze off my ankles anymore this winter with noshow socks, in many of your videos you totally rock bold colour and pattern in that department, love that and shamelessly copy after you!
Where is your national park tshirt! Love that one, had to find something close at Target. Where do you donate most of your clothes or do you do resale, struggle with that one. Thanks for your intentional videos Love it!
Just found your channel and catching up on past videos. Greetings from Sydney Australia. Love your personal style & confidence. Thank you for sharing your experience. I find myself about to reach 60 with a not so perfect body. I have a very edgy style which I find easy to maintain in winter. However summer fashion in Australia is very dowdy especially if you are older & not so perfect. I wonder if there are others out there who struggle with summer apparel as much as I do. Would love to see how you dress in the heat.
Same age not perfect body too and central Canada as cold as winter is summers are very hot. Not perfect linen or linen fox Lithuanian custom made linen is my summer secret. Sleeveless dresses that flow culottes bottoms that are inspired from your outback nurse uniforms actually. Not sure what your body needs i lost my waist so flow linen is flattering. Hope this helps.
It ain’t easy, but always rewarding. (I still lust after your oatmeal turtle sweatshirt that they don’t make any more. You HAD to mention it. But I still love you.😉)👍♥️🙏💋
I think for the jeans you weren’t wearing I would let them go. I think about ‘cost per wear’ and getting that really low to justify keeping things, and also that someone would adore the thing I think is only ok. It’s funny how everyone has different amounts they are happy to keep. I live in jeans but often feel that 6 pairs is too many 🤣. Thanks for a great video 🤩
Force yourself to wear the items that you are on the fence about to see if it "works"...like that letterman jacket...that will tell you to keep or "recycle"...ditch the tops that you are not wearing/not sure of...ditch the low rise jeans....by "ditch" I mean put in a box and check it in 6 months...you will likely be able to let go easily then
I'm so happy to see a minimalist who has a closet with some clothes in it! When declutterinf my go-to keep mantra is: If it isn't a definite yes, then it's a no.
That's a great mantra
Keep a bag for donations when I try on an item and I say meh….gone.
Like mom said: When in doubt…don’t!
Good rule for romantic relationships as well 😆
Greatly appreciate the walk through on the decluttering process. Done with intention.
This is my upvote for a video focused on styling wide leg pants. Thanks!
@Jj K footwear! Yes thank you for adding that. I’m upvoting your footwear request

Love it. It was realistic, that's the best part.
Good job of decluttering. Appreciate the distinction of "loving the idea of a garment, but." Thank you.

Yes to the Wide leg black pants styling🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤👐❗❗❗❗❗
Your intro is so freaking good
I’d like to see a video of you styling the black wide leg Victoria Beckham pants.

I have TONS of wide leg pants. PLEASE do a video on wide leg pant styling!!!!
I’m going to do another de clutter after watching this …another great video, thanks Emily 💙💙💙
wow! I found you by accident and will stay here for long definitely, I love your style!
I was surprised to see the tie dyed! Nice though!👍
I'm in my pyjamas as soon as I get home great idea definitely the way forward
Glad I'm not the only one
I hope you kept the rusty stripe since now you have the tennies and beanie that match it!!

I’ve never bought anything from Everlane but I think I’m going to have to since watching your channel!

The downside of that is too much stuff. I buy multiples because I have had things I love, then the style changes a bit or is discontinued.
That camel cardigan i so cute!

Great video!! Was good to see your insight into the challenges of decluttering… ugh it’s hard!!
It really is!
Keep your everlane orange & black top - perfect for 2022 - year of the tiger LOL
Love your channel! I just went through all of my jeans yesterday. It was tough! I eliminated some, and I'm going to try and "update" a couple with adding a little distress here and there. I need multiple days for the closet declutter. Hats off to you for doing it so quickly :)
Good job of letting go! I like that rust/black horizontal stripped top. I vote to keep!
Why so less views...besides such quality..omg video is awesome!!
I love that you’re a Minnesotan! I was born and raised in Red Wing, MN, and grew up spending a ton of time in the Twin Cities. Stay warm, I hear it’s extra cold there right now! ❤️
It’s hard to say goodbye to an old friend…good job💕
Snow day today... rewatched this and tried on closet items, re-organized and reduced my wardrobe... thank you for the inspiration 🙏💓

I'm loving your denim collection. I've got a lot myself, and now I don't feel like I have too many! LOL! Keep the low-rise, they're back in style! 🙂
Your “what is your style” videos and decluttering videos have really been keeping me on track, thanks Emily! 🌸💖🌸
I wondered about summer clothes 🧐
Happy to see that your channel is growing! 🤗❤️
Thank you!! 😊
Thanks for being so honest...!!!
Love your decluttering style 💙
Great video as always very grateful thank you
I love low and mid rise jeans! I would keep them. I am a rectangle shape and I find that if anything is tight around the middle it is just not flattering or comfortable. However, low rise are tricky to style because you need longer shirts!
Love your style and I wonder if you would consider doing some jaggers styling…joggers are my favorites lately.

Hey there Fashion Friend...would luv a video on your maybe pile and how you would restyle those items :)
Low rise is back! You might want to keep those jeans 😉
Airways hard to decide what to keep and what to let go!
I like your vest. Where did you get it from?
If the low rise are comfortable- keep them . ( Low rise never comfortable for me 😛!) Comfort rules my jean purchases !
Good job.😊 might as well hold the low rise…..
Okay that intro tho 👏🏻👏🏻
This video should be spirited by thredup or similar. Do you donate local or do you resell? I'm sure your viewers would love to follow you on a resell app/website!
Did you do the how to style wide leg pant video? If not please do. If yes, please link. !!
Thanks for sharing your wardrobe. You inspire me to look at my own wardrobe. Do you ever miss the color purple, pink, red, etc.
Suggest you put the ones you love but aren't sure about in another place for 6 months. If after that time, you haven't missed them, let 'em go...
I like that idea! Thank you!
Emily! I live in Saint Paul, are you giving your clothes to good will?
I would like to see your collection of socks, imagine they are amazing. Accually thanks to you Emily I do not freeze off my ankles anymore this winter with noshow socks, in many of your videos you totally rock bold colour and pattern in that department, love that and shamelessly copy after you!
Question on Jean storage. When you fold how do you know which are which? I tried folding and unfolded everything to find one pair. Tips?
Dye the sweater with the patches. Maybe black or blue.
OOooooh great idea!!!!! Thank you!!
Would you get rid of embroidered jeans?
I have never tried but dying/coloring clothes I hear is a thing…the club monaco one maybe could be painted black?
You have alot of black for sure, what is your other favorite color?
Do you ever ask yourself why you don't wear the pieces you get rid of so you don't repurchase similar items?
Where is your national park tshirt! Love that one, had to find something close at Target. Where do you donate most of your clothes or do you do resale, struggle with that one. Thanks for your intentional videos Love it!
I like this video, thanks! I now think I have a shortage of trousers ;)
What happened to your national parks black shirt?
Just in time!! That's what I'm working on this weekend.
Just found your channel and catching up on past videos. Greetings from Sydney Australia.

@@amma7244 Thankyou. I will give it a try, why not. Not sure if its covid but buying decent clothing is getting harder here.
keep yer low rise jeans / they're sure to come around later this year xo promise
What is the song in your intro ? I love it !
I really like your style and videos but I do have a request. Would you consider skirts and dresses as a topic? I don’t always like to wear pants.
Yes, and also vests. Thank you!
Got mine to do next week. X
I love the turtleneck you have on! Is it Everlane? Where can I find it?
It is Everlane but they don't make the stripe one anymore. :-(
Force yourself to wear the items that you are on the fence about to see if it "works"...like that letterman jacket...that will tell you to keep or "recycle"...ditch the tops that you are not wearing/not sure of...ditch the low rise jeans....by "ditch" I mean put in a box and check it in 6 months...you will likely be able to let go easily then
The scuttlebutt is that low rise jeans are coming back. With a minimalist style, do you ever feel like you're always wearing the same thing?
I desperately want the Everlane sweatshirt that they don't make anymore! Talk them into bringing it back. Please 🙏
Keep the low rise, thankfully they are coming back!!💜
That’s all of your clothes?!? I also live in mn and I hoard warm clothes and layers. You can never have enough sweaters and sweatshirts.
