Sean Avery screens Martin Brodeur "The Avery Rule"

- The screen, the battle, the goal. Keep your eyes on Sean Avery and Martin Brodeur on the right. A hilarious screen by Avery. Brodeur is clearly annoyed and tries to get him out of his way by some shoving, but Avery still remains in front of him. He moments later scores during the 5 on 3 Powerplay.

still gold to this day
Facts
He's a total loser for doing that. Pure shit bag!
Taco stacks suck D
@@stephenamitrano2284 Ok you like the modern sterile, political correct boring hockey.
@@stephenamitrano2284 cry harder
This will never not be funny, and the fact he scored just makes it even funnier
Lol
Imagine if he tried that on Patrick Roy...
Or Ron Hextall
Christoffer Sjödin Or Ray Emery
It's up to the defense to move him out of there. But creative work by Avery, just not likeable.
vashthestampede11 if that was emery he would get brutally murdered
Call me Daddy I hate Emery, but you are absolutely right lol. Would have hospitalized Avery at a minimum
Ah, Sean Avery, the ultimate hockey troll.
the ultimate hockey scumbag
+beacs27 The ultimate hockey legend!
Sean Avery was nothing but a piece of shit. I'm glad he's gone. (Rangers fan)
Donny Dougherty / ToonTown Stan *Sean Avery was nothing but a hall of famer. I'm glad he played for us (Rangers fan).* It's okay man, everyone makes spelling mistakes, I forgive you.
piece of shit*
If Ralph Cifaretto was a hockey player.
Helluva earner
IT WAS THE COKE
Great comment!
🤣
IT WAS A FUCKIN ANIMAL!
One of the best agitators in hockey. Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Avery can get under the skin of an opponent.
Well he never won a Stanley Cup so obviously he didn't do that good a job agitating. The guy that he did that stupid screen on has three Stanley Cups Point made
Hes also an absolute shit human being so definitely adds to thd problem lol
@@brianhren1760 There it is... great comment to a bunch of idiots who think Sean Avery deserves some sort of recognition for being a retard... Brodeur has 3 cups brought his argument about Avery's goofy kiddy shit to the league & the NHL agreed that Avery was acting like an asshole... end of story... from that moment on it was a penalty any time he did it... I've never seen a bigger goofball than Avery in my life...
@Brian Hren He actually did win a cup in his first year, he’s still a douche though lol
@@owencollins604 The Red Wings went on to win the Stanley Cup that season but Avery did not play in the playoffs nor did he play the required 41 games to get his name engraved on the Cup...
I'm with Joe Thorton on this one, innovative.
This honestly looks like something someone would do in NHL 14 haaha
i try it all the time
Except you in NHL 14 is irrelevant.
you know I have this wonderful picture in my head of someone on the radio commentating on the game saying "and avery is know waving his stick in front of the goal tender"
Am I the only here because of the Spittin Chiclets interview 😂
Nope, lol
Mason Hatt same lmao
Nope
It's amazing how loaded with talent this team was, yet we only made it to the second round.
Ran into Crosby
This brings a huge smile to my face
There should be no rule against that. He's an innovator and hilarious
They probably made the rule because it was him doing it. If anyone else did it their wouldn’t be a rule about it.
This was actually one of the best things he ever did in his career. Facing a goalie and then trying to screen him, and it really worked!
A lot of things would work but they're shitty, unsportsmanlike & most if all lazy. Its a crappy shortcut to playing good hockey.
@@Majorbobbage1 Don't forget that the league changed the rule for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after this, they agreed!
I wish I was about 10 years older so I could have fully appreciated how awesome this rivalry was in the early 2000s.
There is nothing wrong with that at all... Avery is just a genius. Nothing said you couldnt do that, till then. Im sure people hate Avery for this, but this is just creativity at its finest.
I'd pay money to see Avery pull this crap in Hextall's crease.
Or Billy Smith... Smith would have tomahawked him...
Billy Smith would’ve cracked him in the head with his stick and he’d be a vegetable...or dead.
Or Ed Belfour's.
@@kevinthegoalie1366 shame he didn't.
or Billy Smith
He really was a good player. One of my favorites, Could fight, score, pretty much do anything. Unti teams got tired of his shit. He did it to himself
he couldnt fight
Definitely could not fight. He got whupped practically ever time...
I remember watching this game on tv. I feel honored to have witnessed hockey history being made. 😂
I really miss Sean Avery, there should be more players like him!
Much like you, Sean Avery is an @$$hole.....hope you run into Bob Probert someday
He was a man who liked purses. He definitely sucked a cock ot two. If that's your k8nd of "man", then I get it.
NHL is too soft now to have players like him it just wouldn’t fly anymore.
Every NHL team should have a Sean Avery on it. miss you Sean Avery and I hope you come back to the NHL if a team shall have you and the NHL and win a Stanley Cup too.
I wouldn't mind seeing him come back just to watch players take a few runs at him.
Antoinette Dave Corey Perry shines in his shadow
no one hated him more than his own and you say every teams should have one? How ignorant are you?
All I heard was duuuhhhh
Its amazing even his own players tell him to stop lmfao
Try that on Hextall
Im gonna makesure to catch a solar bears game soon to see sean! Loved seeing shit like this as a kid put a smile on my face today hearing hes ready to play again
I'm a proud member of the Devils Army, but I gotta give Avery props.
He's a genius.
Nobody can get into somebodys head like him.
love the fucking celly
Love it!
if Avery would have done that to Ron Hextall he would have a broken jaw and nose.
Screening the golie isa lost art form in the new NHL of 2020. It's great tactic to get a goalie off his game.
Marty fake news man 😭🤣
It's a dick move to be sure. But even Devil's fans have to chuckle at the fact that Avery was the one to get the goal on the play.
man this guy is seriously entertaining!
we need him now
The biggest troll in the sport I love this guy.
I can't believe I never watched this one back then. Sean Avery's my favorite as well as the NY Rangers. I just wish they never made the "Avery Rule", it gave ice hockey a new tactical angle to it. Too bad Avery got traded, he was a vital asset to the NY Rangers. But I like him no matter wherever he goes.
Still remember this game. I'm a huge Sean Avery fan.
that was brilliant
I wonder what will happen if Avery tries to pull that stunt on someone like Ron Hextall or Billy Smith? (Assuming they play in the same era.)
Hexy and Smith both would have sent him home to his mama in a body cast.
Oh my...
Did Jagr even celebrate the goal? Lol
I washed my hands in the MSG bathroom next to Sean Avery at Game 2 and a fan approached him saying “I really love your podcast!” to which Sean replied “Bro I just took a piss… could you give me a minute???” Love it.
no I met him and I loved the guy. I added him on twitter and he is amazing
Sean Avery belongs in the HOF for this lmao
Sean Avery ... completely brilliant!!! He should be viewed like Bobby Orr , in the sense that he could have revolutionized the forward position on Power play or even 5on5 ,
Lucky One I miss Sean Avery too.Every NHL team needs to have an Avery on it.
I love this.
Greatest moment of his career
Imagine if Sean Avery was trying to screen Ron Hextall instead...
Yeah say goodbye to your kneecaps. Amputation by stick
Hextall would have chopped his head off
That's hawt
Ronnie would've beaten the _fuck_ out of him. Hell, Hextall was Brodeur's idol, Marty should've followed his example. :P
Orr would of ran him
I still don't see whats wrong with that he wasn't in the crease or making contact
now a days its considered unsportsmanlike and Goalie Interference and is classified as an illegal screen.
Bryan Adams should be allowed if it wasn't avery doing it, it would be allowed and considered genius
It is still unsportsmanlike, I think that the game shouldn't have been played like this. I do agree that if kane, ovechkin, ect. Did it that it would still be here.
this was when i really loved hockey
there wont be anyone like him anymore
Sean Avery always made me smile. I read most of his book and it's brilliant I may even go back and read all of it again. I'm really glad we got to have him he was so much fun. He was definitely unpredictable and this is pretty clever craziness. I get pretty hard watching it too!
I don't know what's worse: the fact that Avery is wearing glasses in his mug shot at 1:50, or his teammate telling him to calm down in front of Brodeur at 2:13.
Will never forget seeing this. I'll tell my children tales of the Grate One
GENIUS!
Colin White should've flattened Avery. Scott Stevens would not have put up w that!
Scott Stevens would've knocked him out for sure.
I'd like to have seen him pull this crap with Hextall or Billy Smith.
Sean would have kicked their ass.
Katie Stevens Ya ok, lol. Merry Christmas :)
Katie Stevens
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
RunningP123456 Seriously...Avery would have had his leg chopped off or had his face rearranged by a blocker. Love them or hate them, you were lucky to make it out of the crease unscathed with Hexy or Smitty...provoke them and pay the price. Goalies are already a different breed...add a temper and punks like Avery WILL get their bell rung unceremoniously. Cheers :)
Yeah, come into Hextall's crease and pull this crap. You wouldn't pull it again.
God I hated it then, but I love being able to look back and laugh now because of the new rule. Seriously, it's hilarious.
I'm gonna tell my kids he's The Great One
Stevens would not have knocked him out in a tie game when your already down 2 men. What does a ten minute misconduct get you their. Other than another 2 minutes of 5 on 3.
What would Ron Hextall have done?
Chris Mason Probably sock Avery in the face with his trapper ...
Lol no hextall would have definitely killed him.
Epic celebration.
You gotta love this guy
Avery > Gretzky
The “Marty Brodeur Rule” is, keep Marty away from the in-laws during the holidays.
What Happened? He beat up his in laws or something?
@@showfacenewsthefailedyoutu7779 Gonna resurrect this to let you know he started banging his wife's sister-in-law when she was living with them to help them out with the kids. His wife divorced him and he married his mistress and had a kid with her. This led to the "uncle-daddy" chants in NY and Philly.
Legend
What a class act he was...
Marty looks like he isn't very happy.. Avery is freakin awesome! xD
Avery was a friggin punk, had no respect for anybody. Now he's a male model getting all the attention he needs, Hockey is better without him. Marty should have laid him out!
I would've skated up while was distracting Marty and knocked him on his ass. Or better yet, go in front their goalie and do the same.
JoshOrtiz88 I doubt that would work on Lundqvist.
I'd be pissed if someone would screen me like that let alone score on me afterwards haha
Frank Lafferty he was a punk but it should still be allowed. If any other player had started it it would be considered revolutionary
This is what's so great about Sean Avery. He can cause trouble and drama, but he always gets the job done in the end. Anyone who can make the players on other teams distracted from winning is a great asset. Wish we had him on the Leafs!
come back nhl misses you avery!!!!
Still a classic
This should be legal. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, in my opinion.
bergeronscores Seeing it once is funny, but I would not want every power play in the game to have this, and that is exactly what would happen, especially late in close games
i don't think you would see it in every power play, because avery is taking himself out of any potential offensive play by doing this. you can't tip in a goal if your back is to the shooter. he's basically allowing himself to only one role, screening the goaltender, while not allowing himself to be ready for a tip in or a rebound. the only reason he did it this time was it was 5-on-3, so taking himself out of the play still made it 4-on-3, so there was still an advantage, but i don't think even if it were allowed still that it would be a smart hockey play even on 5-on-3.
GOAT 🐐🐐🐐
Love how the other ranger in front of brodeur is like dude stop they're going to give you a penalty
Sean Avery, the power-play specialist
Sean Avery is the best player to ever play in the NHL.
calboy seseman Avery isn’t the best, far from it tbh. But I can tell you, when it came to strategy and cheap tactics, Avery is the master.
No Mike Hunt is the best player to ever play in the NHL.
Sean, we know that's you.
Avery's hilarious. Such a great agitator. Gonna miss him in the NHL. :(
Gotta love Avery
Does anyone know what the player (who appears to be Drury) said to Avery in the middle of his screeninig of Brodeur?
Class act
@infearandfaiith how do you figure that he got the goal...................or did you not see that part?
He just signed an ECHL contract with Orlando
@johnnylenn Is he playing at all? Anywhere?
Hahaha, thats a first ive seen of this type of screening! x] If i was Brodeur, I'd still feel disappointed that it was Avery of all person who scored =P
Can't deny he deserved that goal. Dirty or not, he found a way around those current rules. Kudos
I loled the entire time Sean Avery is the man
was at that game!!
He is in the NHL.
@Kevinescense Did he hit him?
Genius move
If every team in the NHL had a Sean Avery you wouldn't have to find a hockey article 20 pages deep in your local sports news paper after Baseball, Football, Basket ball, Golf, Ping Pong, Horse Racing, mini golf, College sports, ...
And after all that he scores! Amazing!
You're from detroit so i can't really argue.
Is Avery playing anymore? I looked on the AHL site for the Connecticut Whale (Rangers farm team) and he isn't listed... is he playing in Europe?
Best hockey shift of all time.
This was a great tactic. 5 on 3, screw with Brodeur, next time in the zone he doesn’t, ready for the one timer.
@brymo80 so how was your nice long summer NOT watching the rags in the playoffs?
How many cups does avery have?
he must like winning also how many goals do you have?
Avery was Fun to watch!!!
@munchkinbuttface Stupid Question but didn't that look like a high sticking call and shouldn't that be a 2:00 penalty call?
@GameConsoleJunkie Perfect words. It's too easy to hate him, but to have the NHL make a rule for something you did, after how many years of NHL play? In your words, GENIUS.
Avery finishes his career with 580 games played in the NHL---Brodeur earlier this month played his 1,200th NHL game.
avery is a legend too he is so hated he will be remembered for a very long time...
