    I love how this mechanic is incorporated into the story too. If you remember at the end, it’s revealed that Riku had actually been exploring Sora’s dreams. This adds a whole other perspective on the Drop system as it basically means that whenever Sora falls asleep, Riku enters his dreams. And whenever Riku is asleep, Riku is dormant while Sora is exploring the sleeping worlds.
    It’s such a brilliant twist IMO.

      It’s a great in-universe reason for Sora and Riku to share the same inventory, so you don’t need to get the same commands and actions twice over. Same journal and pool of accessible Dream Eaters too, avoiding a lot of the busy work that was in Birth by Sleep getting the same stuff and doing the same things three times over.

      You can just use a drop-me-not in that situation. In fact I tended to pretty much use those until I completed a world and then switched to the other character.

    The Drop System isn't bad, but it becomes pointlees due to the existence of Drop-Me-Nots. They can be so easily hoarded that they just break the intended system. What's the point of the meter if I can just have 60 Drop-Me-Nots for cheap?
    I think that if the drop system didn't have a timer and just let you switch at will and forced you to switch at specific points in the story, it would've made more sense

      Just lock progress like they already do. Can't continue one's plot without the other.
      If they really want more forced drops than that do it by worlds or even number of rooms.

    Okay I’m all honesty dream drop distance has always been my favourite game in the kingdom hearts series so far. This is part of the reason behind it but as a proper sequel to birth by sleep. It feels so weird compared to that game and the way it used Disney worlds. The hunchback of Notre dame world was basically the only new one where it didn’t have characters from that movie in previous games. Every other world basically feels like something they could’ve added or extensions from earlier games. What do you think overall?

    Drop-Me-Not nullifies the whole Drop system, that are easily purchasable. Essentially you can either buy Drop-Me-Nots or drop either in a good or bad spot in a world, by choice or not. Something that would probably work better is how Yo-Kai Watch 3's dual protagonist story structure works, where not only can you switch between both protags at any save point, but also it halts progress until you've reached a plot point in the other story, meaning there's no dropping mid-boss anymore. An example from Yo-Kai Watch 3 is that you'll need in the Male Protag's story a magazine article found in the Female Protag's story. I think that system would work way better when the stories are at least in the same worlds then if they were in separate towns until the midway point and then mainly in 1 story side. So for an example from Dream Drop, when you seal the Traverse Town Keyhole in the 2nd visit, it doesn't let you explore the next batch of worlds until Riku seals it also. So making it intertwined like that would work a lot better, if anything it's how I'm playing essentially on my 3Ds for the most part, since I can easily have a ton of Drop-Me-Nots

  • @omegahaxors3306
    @omegahaxors3306 Місяць тому +1

    This just proves exactly the point I was making. The system only exists to punish people who are having fun and only adds annoyance to those who aren't. It's not forcing you to switch characters to keep the game fresh, it's just nagging you if you don't.

  • @clausworld2997
    @clausworld2997 2 роки тому +3

    I like the drop system, especially when you are with someone else you can change the character and the player by alternating control. Another case where the box tells you that it is a single player game but it can actually work as a two player game.

    THANK YOU, I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS, the drop mechanic is very easy to work around (honestly made me think why it's in the game at all) but it's not nearly as annoying as people say
    Edit: Kid me didn't get the drop system either but it took one year to understand it

  • @adrianemanuel7121

    I like the end goal for the drop system of not wanting players to overlevel one character and experience both/all stories at relatively the same time in one go from start to finish. I much prefer it over choosing one character, finishing their story first, and then starting all over with another. I'm in that camp of people mentioned in the KH 3D Ultimania who feels like I'm only getting a fractured short story experience, and I'd rather not regain all separate stats and abilities from level 1 again after already playing for double-digit hours. For future multi-protagonist stories, all they have to do to appease both parties is do contextual switching back and forth, like the initial switch in DDD Traverse Town through cutscenes. No slightly annoying dropping mid-fights, and a complete story experience with all character perspectives in one playthrough.

  • @PipeGuy64Bit
    @PipeGuy64Bit 2 роки тому +1

    Oh I see this in my homepage after starting my shared playthrough with my sister where I play as Sora and she plays as Riku last night. To me the drop mechanic seemed to only be a bother in the very early game with the lack of Drop-Me-Nots and I had no clue they'd be so cheap in the shop once they appear (as well as not knowing when they'd appear in the shop) so I hoarded the few the game gives you in Traverse Town.
    But honestly in general DDD has probably the toughest early game for any new player at least imo and that's mostly because of being pretty limited with your commands against regular mob fights.

    Prodigy, you've come along way with your channel. I remember finding your channel at like the end of 2020 or like beginning of 2021. Around the time when Union Cross was ending. I remember randomly watching you cover the updates and what happened in the story. I remember back in like June, 2021, the final story update was supposed to be released World Wide but the English version was late so we had to wait until Everglow translated it himself. I remember watching your reaction. I also remember that day because my family and I took the top off our jeep and went for a Jeep ride that day. I have to say, I love the lil' animation yiu added at the end of the videos. Esoecially now with the Christmas theme.

    It makes me wonder how would this system fare in Birth by Sleep, I feel a lot of the story would be easier to catch up with that way

    I think when I first play DDD I was 10ish and have a vivid memory of being agrivated at rikus tron fight because of the dropping, I got that rush of urgency and everytime I dropped back I just had to fight the bost faster and better. While it wasn't my favorite feature in a KH Series it definetly impacted how that game felt, it was fast pace. I liked it more than BBS tbh

    KH DDD was the first KH game I cleared the story of. Rented KH1 and 2 when I was a kid (nearly 15 years ago) but don't remember beating them. Only remembered getting half way with both. But since then: I beat DDD, 358/2 days, Re:coded, and KH3(without the dlc) . Currently playing Kh1FM and started COM a lil early to try how it plays. But i got to say. Out of all the Da games... DDD is the best but I think I like 358/2 days panel system a lil better. But the Ds KH games are quite clunky or janky. But I love them all.

    There are so many features to absorb between the different KH titles. Like, I got all the way through Sora’s and halfway through Riku’s stories in Re:Com before realising that using sleights permanently deletes the first card of each sleight per battle. And I kept wondering why I had no cards by the end! (I know Leon explains this right at the start of the game, but it was one of the details which slipped through the cracks).

    I like how you get damage bonuses every time you drop and switch characters. The more you drop the higher the bonuses are. So you can be pretty OP by the end of the game. People who just used “drop me not” potions were actually making the game harder for themselves. Funnily enough I enjoyed DDD more than I did 3. I was disappointed with 3 but I’m hopeful for the next entry in the series.

    Honestly it felt weird playing Dream Drop Distance to me. Like I was fine with whole drop system, it was interesting along with the flowmotion and Dream Eaters, I just didn’t like how quickly everything moved in the game. Compared to the previous KH games, Sora didn’t really run or fight so fast, but in DDD, the movements were just too quick and fluid for my liking. It kinda tripped me up sometimes lol, but they at least balanced it out in KH3.

    While I agree that the drop system itself isn't the best, I really like it more that the one system as a time we had in Birth by sleep, which repeated play through becomes a chore since I have to go back to 0 three times in a row and regain everything!
    In DDD, like you said, progress made with Sora influence Riku and vise versa, which makes the game feels way better on a progression point!
    As for dropping in boss fights... It was never an issue for me. During my first play through back when the game was released, I always had Drop Me Not in my deck, so I could manage easily. Now, I know where are all the bosses or big events, so I know how to manage them when necessary.
    Which also mean that, most of the time, Drop is not really a bother anymore.

    Ventus is proven to be older than old man Xehanort, in Union X as the player reincarnates into Xehanort in the end, the boy manages to keep his age when meeting the old man, and kept his age from being in Castle oblivion for ten whole years, this man does not age, yeah you could say Aqua and Terra didn’t age but mind you Aqua was in the RoD for those ten years, and Terra’s body was snatched from the past as one of the thirteen vessels of true org xiii, and the rest of the cast age properly, so this is why I believe Ventus is the MoM

      Radiation in fallout is a bad mechanic then, but one that fits the setting, the drop system could be better if the system was less forced, like for you to drop, you either choose to do so (sometimes forced by the story) or die with the drop gauge maxed, and dying without the gauge full will increase the gauge or the drop speed, while you have it maxed enemies will be stronger but you will get more loot.
