New Spindle Completed For Homemade Lathe
Hello UA-camr, today I’m glad to share my new second homemade lathes.
I do happy to make a bigger size because my first lathe the size is a bit small, when milling a big plate of thick metal is not easy because the length is not enough space to milling than the plate metal I used is thin most are 10 mm thick.
So I decided to make a new lathe bigger than the previous lathe. Now there is enough experience to make a new lathe also.
I hope you all enjoying my new lathe from part 1.

Your lathe build is impressive, well done, I watched all your videos. Did you use a special steel for the main spindle?

At 10:48, watch the bearing in the background spinning while your cutting on the shaft, Your tailstock is a serious problem, a large source of vibration. Probably the center your using, is it a live center or a dead center ?

how shaft diameter and bearing code?

The problem I see with the pully setup is that its too small and rubber from the belt can get into the bearings. Screwing on faceplates has its own problems too as you are relying on the threads for accuracy and you will be praying that doesn't come undone or even move a little as it will throw your parts off its center making it impossible to hit tight tolerances. There are reasons why most laths have fixed face plates and the ones with removable face plates are a pain to deal with.

      Thanks Ham
That is my concern very much because I do not have my own machine. The pulley is used size B think a bit small, the charge me 220$ for two pulley so expensive but choice
Thanks let how is first im sure.

Thank you for your patience in watching this, learn to make this machine without book and no school it one part of my day only, and I started during a pandemic and have been Covid 19.
      Thank you again

@@mr.ranyhomemade2466 No rush for me at least. I kind of like the slow progression anyway.

Screw on chucks were very common until 30~40 years ago and plenty of people still use them as hobbyists with older machines
The only thing I would do different, the shoulder behind the screw on part should be cleaned up accurately to be concentric with thread/bearing then a counter bore in the nut to keep things in line.
Screw on chucks can have problems if you do a lot of intermittent cutting as they tend to get too tight to remove (at least without a struggle) and, if you have the ability to switch from normal running to reverse without stopping first, they can come unscrewed.
It will be simple to make a thin plate to keep any rubber out of bearings, getting grease from bearing onto belt may be more of a problem although the same thin plate will act as a slinger to keep grease or 'dirt' where it belongs.
The only problem I foresee is changing belts as the spindle will have to be disassembled, although the PK Truck video's don't seem to be bothered by the same design. which came out of a factory that way
