I’ve just bought one of these following recommendations. Took it out of the box and plugged it into my battery. Within 45 mins it was worryingly hot. I’m concerned about leaving this plugged into my car long term. Should the charger be roasting like this while it’s on?!

I have two MXS 5 chargers which i bought over 6 years ago. They are fantastic at charging my golf trolley, car and motorcycle batteries.I left my Porsche Boxster battery on charge and my motorcycle battery on charge when my wife and i were away on holiday for one month, and i have revived my friends almost dead battery.I believe a few of the dumb comments that have been made here are by those who have no idea how to use this great product.

I have just purchased this in the coldest spell in the U.K. for years, I have a 2012 min Cooper stop/start convertible which my wife uses occasionally and remains in the garage.
Last year we replaced the battery because it died, this time we have purchased the Ctek MXS 5 because we do not want all the Agro with battery’s resets etc.
We placed the Ctek charger on when outside temperatures were at -5 c, we set it to the - Car and AGM - two led mode as advised with stop/start car.
A great piece of kit within 5 hours it lit up to 7 then 8 Green led.
I assume we now leave it like that ?
Great video although a bit more advice on what mode to leave it on and the green led needs more explanation.
But great piece of kit I hope we now avoid the Main Dealers costs for a new battery and a battery reset which are bloody expensive.

My Ferrari 458 has a lithium battery , does this charger works for those batteries ?

No. You must use a charger specifically designed for lithium batteries.

It's not because they are made in China that they are cheaply made : Apple computers are also made in China : they are the best computers on the market by far !
