  • Update: I have since realized that the lower the AC number in this module, the higher the armor class is. Now I feel like a complete idiot but enjoy the video regardless.

Back in the day the lower the number the better the armor class was. Look up something called thaco

This is why it was called "THAC0" or "To hit Armor Class 0" with an AC of 0 basically being full plate so an AC of 2 is actually pretty decent.

Thanks for the heads up! I've heard of THAC0 in the past but completely forgot about it when making the video. Hope you enjoyed it regardless :D

@@sarvaeth7433 AC 2 in old D&D is equivalent to about 18 in 5e.

AC of 2 is good in TSR D&D. Lower the better. You can go into the negative numbers if you were powerful enough.

This THAC0 error had an massive impact on my enjoyment of the video.
But this aside; I'm looking forward for more of that well edited and spoken videos :)

The reason for the Armor class that you were seeing for the characters stat blocks is because the characters were created using the old Dungeons and Dragons rolls. Back then a person with no armor and no dexterity bonus had an armor class of 10. The stronger the amor they wore, the lower the Armor class would go. Such as Strong Heart being in Plate mail armor and having an Armor Class of 2. I think back then the very best armor class a person could have was a -10 armor class. But that was hard to achieve.

    Great video. Subbed.
Warduke also had 3rd Edition stats in a Dungeon Magazine. They were ridiculously good. He was CR 21 iirc.

I would add that Greyhawk and Faerun share the same prime material plane. There is a quote out there from, Chris Perkins stating that you can use teleport to go from one prime world to another.

Greyhawk used to be the primary setting for Dungeons and Dragons back in the 1980's. When R.A. Salvator's rocketed the game's popularity, Forgotten Realms just kinda took the spotlight. It only made sense that in later editions of Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms would become the primary setting for the core books. I feel that is why we start seeing these old Greyhawk characters seeping into the adventure modules as a bit of nostalgia.

These characters were never associated with Greyhawk. Considering they were statted up in dnd basic edition, it's most likely they were from Mystara.

I’m sure someone already cleared up your confusion but back then 2 was a high ac because we used the THAC0 rules where you get better chances to hit Armor Class Zero the higher your level. 1st and 2nd edition use those rules my dude

"Lady's and gentlemen, May I have your attention please?"
These will be the innocent words spoken by a fey at the start my game for The wilds beyond the witch lights.

A little research goes a long way. Lower AC was a good thing then. As previously mentioned - THAC0 (or "To Hit Armor Class 0"). Happy dungeoning.

In AD&D 1st edition they used a THAC0 (To Hit Armor Class 0) system and lower AC was more desirable. An AC of 2 in AD&D 1st edition was like n AC of 18 in 5th edition. My buddy did a deep dive on the quest for the heartstone adventure. m.ua-cam.com/video/ZED1bMlGVFk/v-deo.html
