LYRICS:
They came for him one winter's night
Arrested, he was bound
They said, "there'd been a robbery"
His pistol had been found
They marched him to the station house
He waited 'til the dawn
And as they led him to the dock
He knew that he'd been wronged
"You stand accused of robbery"
He heard the bailiff say
He knew without an alibi
Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom
Over the hills and far away
For ten long years, he'll count the days
Over the mountains and blue seas
A prisoner's life for him, there'll be
He knew that it (would cost him dear)
But, yet he dare not say
Just where he'd been (that fateful night)
A secret it must stay
He had to fight back tears of rage
His heart beat like a drum
For with the wife of his best friend
He spent his final night of freedom
Over the hills and far away
He swears he will return one day
Far from the mountains and blue seas
Back in her arms, again he'll be
Over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills and far away
Each night within his prison cell
He looks out through the bars
He reads the letters that she wrote
One day he'll know the taste of freedom
Over the hills and far away
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas
Back in his arms again, she'll be
Over the hills and far away
He swears he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas
Back in his arms is where she'll be
Over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills, and over the hills
And over the hills and far away

You should do a cover of The Highwayman by Loreena Mckennit, it'd be a perfect song for you and your hurdy gurdy.
Love the song, but its sad ;( I'd love her to play it.
A beautiful young lady singing one of Gary Moore’s best songs
6 Jahre her und immer noch das beste Lied
The atmosphere alone is so strong in this version.
The instrument Patty is playing is called a Hurdy Gurdy. She actually is playing a customized model. Such an awesome sound!
Hehe Hurdy Gurdy.
I keep listening to this, trying to nail the solos on harmonica. I've got the chorus and verse more or less, and even a bit of the second solo, but overall, this is still kicking my butt.
I'd love to hear that bud! :)
Oh wow being such a big fan of this song, I never thought I would find another great version of it. Your voice is so nice to hear and the instrumental is so so amazing. Congratulations for the great work
Extremely talented well done your an incredible Singer and artist I wish you all the best this one is one of my favorite never get tired of listening to this thanks for doing these and sharing them with us all
I"ve never seen an instrument like this before. The music was awesome.
Wolvalk its a hurdy gurdy
Its called hurdy gurdy its a Instrument Form.medival times.. Its not often played anymore
My absolute favorite song . It introduced me to nightwish. And I eventually learned their version was a cover. But honest from an 8-bit to a gurdy cover.. its honestly my absolute favorite song
One of my favorite songs ... I remember the first time I heard the version by Gary Moore it was absolutely amazing. I love your performance here you nailed everything nicely. Love you videos.
Her voice is the reason I understand why Odysseus tied himself to the mast to hear the sirens song.
@@colinfitzpatrick3389 idk. As much as human history is filled with lies. On almost every topic, period, genre. I my curiosity would cut the rope to go dance w the sirens

As a pianist, I’ve always been jealous of string players for the fullness they can add to individual notes and this seems like the perfect instrument to adapt to so I will not be any longer.
You need to also check out the harpejji by Marcodi. It's like an electric guitar played like a piano.
Eine schöne Frau, die ein unglaubliches Instrument spielt, was gibt es nicht zu lieben?
Brilliant version so beautiful. RIP Gary Moore.
A fantastic version of a song I've loved since it came out.
what is the trve versiion to it?
@@Dave.Mustaine.Is.Genius That would be Gary Moore, back in 1987.There are other songs with the same title, but they are totally different songs altogether.
WoW!!! What nice, this modern performance with such an ancient instrument as the hurdy gurdy ! Thanks, very nice!
Thanks for this moment, for the your magic voice, for the travel into a Celtic World, for the hypnotic sound of your instrument... thanks
Excellent version: very dark. How the young lass plays that hellish device is beyond me, but she does it very well!😃😃
It’s a grim song, and she sings it with real anger and projection. Well done Patty! Now listen to Isobel Thatcher “Walking Down The Tracks,” another dark and true song.🎸🎸😃😃
Oh Patty you are the voice of the wind, nature breathes as you sing. Keep singing sweet red. Sing on J.
Omg you would be understand me you would I really 🤔
You have such humble beauty, fell in love in your music at the first time I've heard it,
There's not enough thumbs up available for this. I keep coming back to this. So haunting and emotional.
I've been waiting forever for a new song from you, and I'm not disappointed! It's fantastic!
Increíble versión de la canción de Nightwish! Totalmente única como es Patty. Thank you!
Es de Gary Moore, no de Nightwish.
Pués escucha la original, que es de Gary Moore y te gustará mucho más
I never thought I would be able to enjoy this song without the drum battery from the Gary Moore version, but I was incorrect. This is awesome!
I came across this video while researching information about the American Revolutionary War. The video is magnificent! Patty is a very beautiful lady (so is the brunette performer in the black dress). I love her melodious voice, and the song is absolutely wonderful. I'm also hugely impressed by that gorgeous instrument she's playing. I looked up the histories of Patty, the instrument she plays, and the song. Such a great deal of interesting information.
That cellist, she's Sandra McGnomsen of Brisinga. She, Patty, and the drummer Olaf used to be in a band called Storm Seeker. I do recommend both Brisinga (they make a sort of mystical medieval folk music - check out their recent release "Krabat") and Storm Seeker (pirate folk metal); love their music.
@@Thomas.Wright Thanks for the info; I appreciate it!
@@Thomas.Wright what's that instrument the lead singer is playing? I've never seen anything like it before 😮
@@AriStrX500RR It's called a hurdy-gurdy. Patty has videos on her channel explaining it. Also, for a history of the instrument, I'd suggest looking up "Down the Rabbit Hole - Hurdy Gurdy" here on UA-cam. If you're interested in more hurdy-gurdy music, I will suggest FABIS TUNES, BRISINGA, and ANNIE HURDY GURDY.
Could you imagine how awesome this would sound it Troy was playing the Uilleann pipes along with Patty on the gurdy???
Gary Moore was so great musician, who can write such moving song like this.
Liebe Patty, deine Musik ist so berührend und wunderschön; ich freue mich sehr auf dein Album!
Rough translation for all you english lads out there.
"Love Patty, her music is so beautiful and wonderful, good luck with the album!
(everything after the ; is a super rough translation)
@@pandaman3367 That's actually not quite right. "Liebe" at the beginning is something more like "dear" in this context. More accurately, it's "Dear Patty, your music is so touching and wonderful, I'm very excited for your album!"
@@SquireThomas Okay, been a while, thanks! lol
( It's deer patty your music is so touching and beautiful I'm really looking forward to your album ) that's what it is UwU
The vocals is what makes it even better
I love this song so much, and this cover is something special. I never expected to hear the solo played on a hurdy gurdy, and you did not disappoint. This was beautiful.
i dont know what sounded more beautiful your voice or the instrument you are playing either way such an amazing song!
They came for him one winter's night
Arrested, he was bound
They said there'd been a robbery,
His pistol had been found
They marched to the station house,
He waited till the dawn
And as they led him to the dock,
He knew that he'd been wronged
"you stand accused of robbery,"
He heard the bailiff say
He knew without an alibi,
Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom
Over the hills and far away,
For ten long years he'll count the days
Over the mountains and blue seas,
A prisoner's life for him there'll be
He knew that it would cost him dear,
But yet he dare not say
Where he'd been that fateful night,
A secret it must stay
He had to fight back tears of rage
His heart beat like a drum
For with the wife of his best friend,
He spent his final night of freedom
Over the hills and far away,
He swears he will return one day
Far from the mountains and blue seas,
Back in her arms he swear he'll be
Over the hills and far away
Over the hills and,
Over the hills and,
Over the hills and far away
Each night within his prison cell,
He looks out through the bars
He reads the letters that she wrote
One day he'll know the taste of freedom
Over the hills and far away,
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
Back in his arms she swears she'll be
Over the hills and far away,
He swears he will return one day
Far from the mountains and blue seas
Back in her arms is where he'll be
Over the hills and far away,
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
Back in his arms is where she'll be
Over the hills Over the Hills
Over the hills and far away
Over the hills Over the Hills
Over the hills and far away

Bruna BB well done!
Closer than most lyrics, off tho a couple times ;)
I took the Lyrics you posted and listened to the song a few times, fixing them as I went along. I'm pretty sure I have them all correct if you're wanting to post these in your post. Up to you. :)
