Matt, it’s weird that you seem to be such a huge advocate for horse welfare yet you’re advertising a business that is connected to one of the most notorious abusers in the dressage world (Andres Helgstrand). What they’re doing here doesn’t seem like a good life for either the horses or foals at all.

I had to watch this one because I am a big fan of blue hors matinee, watching her famous video on UA-cam of got me to start watching a lot of dressage and I think it’s still my all-time favorite routine
You should google Matinees rider. He is known to abuse his horses and ride them extremely rough. A documentary showing what goes on at his facility was released last week. Check that out, Matinee was probably also abused while in his care.
Just like Emma said.. The horses that are likely not going to be "top dressage horses" are being sold to people who are not "top elite riders" and will have a good and normal live competing in the regular competitions and might still become a sub top horse or even stil a Grand Prix horse.. Or may be just a nice hacking horse.. There is a shortage on "regular horses" at the moment.. Go try to find a nice "normal competition horse" that is not as hot and sharp as a GP prospect and still build like a nice dressage horse.. They are way harder to find than you would think..
@@xx-vw9ep in America yes. But this does not happen in Denmark. As an example under 400 horses were slaughtered in Denmark in 2022. No horses were exported for slaughter. From what I hear in the danish horse community some horse owners choose slaughter instead of euthanasia when their horses are old. Horse meat is not a thing people eat in Denmark. The majority is used for animal food. So please again, educate me on horses in my home country.
I can’t stand it! I’ve photographed and toured a breeding farm…beautiful location, but I feel sad for the horses. I hate how much money people spend on these horses! Half of the barn, where I lease, are all horses from breeding farms or Europe. I’m so lucky to have a Dylan I’m leasing and training and I know where he’s been. 😊
@@Emma17456Yes, they are. I see it first hand, I’ve also been to those facilities and always feel bad. Too many people want babies to train and sell. I know a few trainers who do that. There are so many awesome horses! Just look! I had an amazing schoolmaster who came from a great background with only one other owner.

All horses in Denmark have to be chipped and registered. That is simply the law. These foals will likely have a red passport which is the type of passport with the highest amount of information in Denmark. And thus you will always know the horses breeding, have some information on their medical history and stuff like that :)
When they don't end up making money for the owners and have no future being exploited,then off they go to what? Stock yards , auctions and God knows where else the left overs go? Take a guess!😢

The horses at Blue Hors, even the ones they don’t keep for themselves, are of high breeding and very very unlikely to end up at slaughter. Horses normally don’t end up at slaughter in Denmark, and it is actually very difficult to find a butcher shop that sells horse meat because it is not normal to eat here. And no, our horses do not get transported out of the country for slaughter either. In 2022 under 400 horses were slaughtered here, and no horses were bred or exported for slaughter!

They are protected but there are loopholes to how people can “adopt” them and then sell them to slaughter or, worse yet, keep them without the proper resources and subject them to terrible lives. As breeders continue to bring more horses into this world we are simply adding to a worldwide problem. I commend you for having your population seemingly under control, but for a lot of nations that is not the case. So for many people, watching this is like watching another country waste good drinking water because they have a surplus while other nations are suffering from a drought. Perhaps if all breeders stopped breeding worldwide and equestrians started working with the horses that are already alive we could begin to bring this crisis under control. As usual, the victims are the horses and if we don’t speak up for them who will? This is not a criticism. I love Matt & Jesse and I think they are doing wonders for the welfare of horses worldwide. Maybe now you can understand why some people see this and get alarmed and frustrated as they watch thousands of unwanted horses live miserable lives or get killed every year.

Without that, you're basically saying that everyone else should make big changes, whilst USA makes no changes, and just lets your Mustangs, and Burros continue to create the problem you want to stop. The following might be an unpopular opinion, but presumably USA wouldn't have such an overproduction of wild Mustangs, and Burros if you didn't have an imbalance in nature between the number of wild Mustangs/Burros, versus wild predators.

Everyone is aware of puppy mills, although the horses appear to be healthy and happy. I can't get the puppy mill idea out of my head when I see a place like this breeding faculty. Is this sort of facility common for raising horses for racing, polo, and other sporting events? I also worry about those who don't make the grade because there are so many here, and only a few would show the ability to become a winner.
@@anndinotoTo my knowledge puppy mills don't use only high quality stud dogs/breeding bitches with Show champion titles, proven Working capability and/or of bloodlines known for producing top quality offspring. These kind of places are aiming to produce quality horses where those who turn out to not be suitable for the Olympics are usually very sought after by all those riders who are also not at the Olympic level, but still want a really good horse.

There are that many people that ride or show those exquisite animals? Here in the US we have a large number of unwanted horses that become rescue animals or sold at auction for slaughter. I hope you do well with the facility, but if you saw what goes on here in the US your thoughts would also go to helping the unwanted animals.
Good grief. Looks like the horse equivalent of a puppy mill or cattle feed lot. As an American, I had no idea Europeans were industrializing breeding "sport" horses. How many of them wash out and end up on a restaurant table?
There are far too many horses are being bred in battery like processes. Rather pathetic. There is far too much cruelty and neglect of horses already. It creates work for a few. It has to stop.
They dont..... They have a stock of brod mares. The foals stay with their Mamas until 6 months, then they come here to grow up in herds with friends! ❤❤
One very big, very famous warmblood horse breeder in europe has a truck that comes every few weeks to pick up horses and take them to the knackery for slaughter when they're no longer needed. I was horrified. Not much horse love there. Sure, in big operations you can't keep every single horse forever, no one has that much money or space, but you'd think they'd at least ensure a gentle quick death via a vet.
I think someone the horses just find the right trainers and riders to help them succeed. They may not look special when they are young, but they find the right people.

They auction them in USA all the time. Many breeders don't care what happens to the offspring once they sell them on. About $$$$ and not about being responsible for an animal for its lifetime for a breeder, even if you don't own it.
😢 I see this as sad So many horses are going through the slaughter pipeline. Is this responsible breeding??... I don't see this as any better then the racing industry. Over breeding to get that one champion.. $$$$
None of these horses go through the slaughter pipeline, they are breeding top class dressage horses and the ones that don't end up on the 5* show grounds end up in amateur homes! The horse industry in this part of Europe is not at all about just breeding without thinking about it - we do have many professionals and amateurs asking for these horses!
Bred and kept like production animals (pigs, chickens) but wth huge price tags. European efficiency feeding an insatiable market for equine accessories and status symbols.

These are top notch dressage horses! There's no way they will end up in slaughter houses. Here in Europe we take our horses to vet. hospitals when it't time to put them down. There are slaughterhouses, but they raise special breeds for meat. Theese guys will go to top riders and are way to valuable to end there! You typicaly don't find auctions in Europe eighter...... Just the breeding organisations elite actions, with some of the best horses!

There are not many horses left in Europe. After people got tractors in the 70s nobody wanted to bother with them anymore. Not many people has horses and they rarely backyard breed.

I am very worried about the foals that don't pass their "tests". What happens to those sweet souls?? This appears to be a massive money making business. What happens to the ones who you don't think can make you money ???
Tied up twice a day? Foals? Let them be horses! Handling foals too much in their first year of life is proven to cause unnecessary stress. Are these horses all in stalls all day too? Where are all these horses sold to? Homes that are going to push them harder than their bodies and mind can handle? I feel these horses would be leaps and bounds healthier mentally and physically if they were let to be out with their mothers and friends until they are ready to start their education at 3.
They did clearly talk about that "They come in to eat" = Not in those stalls all day. A minority of their daily time is spent on getting 2 daily health check-ups, getting used to being a bit handled by humans, and temporarily being tied up, and the majority of their day they're free to learn how to be a horse by socialising with all the other horses in their group, choose to eat the food available outdoors etc. Idiot owners can sadly exists in all levels, and in all disciplines, but usually those of these horses who as they grow up gets sorted out as not up for the very highest competition level, are very sought after by horse owners who also haven't made it to the very top.
Those are just neck straps instead of halters. They provide a means of identification, because they have so many young horses that look alike and not in individual stalls.

@@horseworldtvI don’t think anyone is saying that they are BRED for slaughter. I think that people are concerned for the welfare of the horses that don’t become dressage or competition prospects. I hear you when you say that there is no surplus of horses in Denmark and that every single horse you breed goes to a good owner. That’s fantastic and I really hope it’s true. But it’s not that way in the rest of the world and so people get concerned. Do breeding facilities in Denmark track every horse that is born with them? Is this how they ensure that the horse always goes to a good home and will not end up abused, neglected or slaughtered? In the US it is very common for people to sell their horses and never know what type of treatment the horse receives or where they end up. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. So this is why people are so alarmed when they see sooo many babies. We have had champion thoroughbreds end up on trucks to Mexico. It’s incomprehensible how people use them as commodities and then sell them off when they are no longer rideable or when the owners move or there’s a change in their circumstances and they can no longer keep them. I hope Denmark or at least this facility has a way of tracking their horses so that they don’t end up abused or slaughtered. I think that that is what people are concerned about. I really don’t think anyone thinks you are breeding for meat. That would be ridiculous. We’re just concerned for the ones that don’t make it into the dressage or sporting rings. Please don’t get frustrated. Horses have been treated like disposable commodities worldwide for their entire existence. It is only within the last 40 years that people have started speaking up against all the cruelty and abuse perpetrated on them. Thanks to people like the ones expressing concern on this platform horses are starting to have a voice advocating for their welfare. Unfortunately there is a LONG road ahead as the majority of the world still views horses as expendable commodities to be bought, sold, ridden, bred, worked, and slaughtered. End of story. If Denmark is one of the enlightened few countries that sees the horse as a sentient and fully developed being that must be respected and treated as any other living being then I am super happy to know that and I’m sure others would be too. Perhaps you could educate us on that so that we can all stop commenting. I am just trying to speak for the horse since they don't have any control over their own fate. 💔

So this makes it a lot easier to keep track of them. Of course we still do have examples of horses going to bad homes, but it is rare. And it is highly unlikely that any of these foals will end up in bad homes, as they go for quite a high price. A yearling Danish Warmblood of this quality is easily 15.000 usd or more when sold to regular amateur riders.

Of course, some of them are 'waste', actually the majority of them, and will end up in some strange stables, the next pseudo-breeding, riding schools, rarely getting into normal conditions - as long as they can earn their way. All I see in this picture is the desire to make money and make money.

And of course some of them will end up in better homes than others. And yes, some might be out down due to an injury of some sort. But all in all, the portion of horses sold to amateurs in Denmark will live a very good life. Having a horse here as a private person (excluding riding schools and breeders who own their own stable) is so expensive that you can't earn money from it, so no one will buy these horses to make money. They will buy them because they want an excellent leisure or amateur competition horse. And they get their money from their job in order to spend some of them on this (quite expensive) hobby.

Everyone is aware of puppy mills, although the horses appear to be healthy and happy. I can't get the puppy mill idea out of my head when I see a place like this breeding faculty. Is this sort of facility common for raising horses for racing, polo, and other sporting events? I also worry about those who don't make the grade because there are so many here, and only a few would show the ability to become a winner.
@@anndinotoTo my knowledge puppy mills don't use only high quality stud dogs/breeding bitches with Show champion titles, proven Working capability and/or of bloodlines known for producing top quality offspring. These kind of places are aiming to produce quality horses where those who turn out to not be suitable for the Olympics are usually very sought after by all those riders who are also not at the Olympic level, but still want a really good horse.
@@FinnishLapphund Your facility may be one of the best, but as commenter @KSJen said with all the horses being trained there what happens to the ones that don't succeed? There are that many people that ride or show those exquisite animals? Here in the US we have a large number of unwanted horses that become rescue animals or sold at auction for slaughter. I hope you do well with the facility, but if you saw what goes on here in the US your thoughts would also go to helping the unwanted animals.

There are far too many horses are being bred in battery like processes. Rather pathetic. There is far too much cruelty and neglect of horses already. It creates work for a few. It has to stop.

One very big, very famous warmblood horse breeder in europe has a truck that comes every few weeks to pick up horses and take them to the knackery for slaughter when they're no longer needed. I was horrified. Not much horse love there. Sure, in big operations you can't keep every single horse forever, no one has that much money or space, but you'd think they'd at least ensure a gentle quick death via a vet.

I think someone the horses just find the right trainers and riders to help them succeed. They may not look special when they are young, but they find the right people.
Dit is een veilig hooivoersysteem. Een vriend van mij is vorige week zijn jaarling verloren omdat het hooivoersysteem in die opfokstal via tralies gaat. Het arme dier heeft zijn nek gebroken omdat hij met zijn hoofd door de andere tralie ging en vast kwam te zitten met zijn kaak, in paniek raakte en zijn nek brak, echt verschrikkelijk 😢! Bij dit systeem kan dat gelukkig niet.

They auction them in USA all the time. Many breeders don't care what happens to the offspring once they sell them on. About $$$$ and not about being responsible for an animal for its lifetime for a breeder, even if you don't own it.

None of these horses go through the slaughter pipeline, they are breeding top class dressage horses and the ones that don't end up on the 5* show grounds end up in amateur homes! The horse industry in this part of Europe is not at all about just breeding without thinking about it - we do have many professionals and amateurs asking for these horses!
Bred and kept like production animals (pigs, chickens) but wth huge price tags. European efficiency feeding an insatiable market for equine accessories and status symbols.

@Emma4708 Maybe it’s hard to understand where the concerned people are coming from but over here in the US we had about 20,000 horses sold to slaughter in Mexico and Canada in 2022. We have almost 50,000 wild mustangs and burros in government holding facilities with nowhere to go and the remaining 80,000 wild mustangs and burros still living free on our lands are constantly subject to starvation due to overpopulation. They are protected but there are loopholes to how people can “adopt” them and then sell them to slaughter or, worse yet, keep them without the proper resources and subject them to terrible lives. It is estimated that there are approximately 100,000 unwanted or abandoned horses in the US and that number is growing. As breeders continue to bring more horses into this world we are simply adding to a worldwide problem. I commend you for having your population seemingly under control, but for a lot of nations that is not the case. So for many people, watching this is like watching another country waste good drinking water because they have a surplus while other nations are suffering from a drought. Perhaps if all breeders stopped breeding worldwide and equestrians started working with the horses that are already alive we could begin to bring this crisis under control. As usual, the victims are the horses and if we don’t speak up for them who will? This is not a criticism. I love Matt & Jesse and I think they are doing wonders for the welfare of horses worldwide. Maybe now you can understand why some people see this and get alarmed and frustrated as they watch thousands of unwanted horses live miserable lives or get killed every year.
These are top notch dressage horses! There's no way they will end up in slaughter houses. Here in Europe we take our horses to vet. hospitals when it't time to put them down. There are slaughterhouses, but they raise special breeds for meat. Theese guys will go to top riders and are way to valuable to end there! You typicaly don't find auctions in Europe eighter...... Just the breeding organisations elite actions, with some of the best horses!

Breeding for a certain characteristic or function has gotten so out of control that a lot of us are extremely worried about the future of horses and their welfare in general. It’s the same with dogs. But I hear you and hopefully the horse’s welfare will remain the priority in all of these sports. 😊
There are not many horses left in Europe. After people got tractors in the 70s nobody wanted to bother with them anymore. Not many people has horses and they rarely backyard breed.
We can assure you, these are not meat farms - they are top dressage horses that will either find a home in breeding, international competitions or in loving amateur homes!

Horses normally don’t end up at slaughter in Denmark, and it is actually very difficult to find a butcher shop that sells horse meat because it is not normal to eat here.
No! This is top notch dressage horses! The horses they don't keep are still very good horses and will be sold to other dressage riders! You can get a really nice horse at their sale, if you can afford him! 😅😅

Tied up twice a day? Foals? Let them be horses! Handling foals too much in their first year of life is proven to cause unnecessary stress. Are these horses all in stalls all day too? Where are all these horses sold to? Homes that are going to push them harder than their bodies and mind can handle? I feel these horses would be leaps and bounds healthier mentally and physically if they were let to be out with their mothers and friends until they are ready to start their education at 3.
They did clearly talk about that "They come in to eat" = Not in those stalls all day. A minority of their daily time is spent on getting 2 daily health check-ups, getting used to being a bit handled by humans, and temporarily being tied up, and the majority of their day they're free to learn how to be a horse by socialising with all the other horses in their group, choose to eat the food available outdoors etc. Idiot owners can sadly exists in all levels, and in all disciplines, but usually those of these horses who as they grow up gets sorted out as not up for the very highest competition level, are very sought after by horse owners who also haven't made it to the very top.

Those are just neck straps instead of halters. They provide a means of identification, because they have so many young horses that look alike and not in individual stalls.

@@horseworldtvI don’t think anyone is saying that they are BRED for slaughter. I think that people are concerned for the welfare of the horses that don’t become dressage or competition prospects. I hear you when you say that there is no surplus of horses in Denmark and that every single horse you breed goes to a good owner. That’s fantastic and I really hope it’s true. But it’s not that way in the rest of the world and so people get concerned. Do breeding facilities in Denmark track every horse that is born with them? Is this how they ensure that the horse always goes to a good home and will not end up abused, neglected or slaughtered? In the US it is very common for people to sell their horses and never know what type of treatment the horse receives or where they end up. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. So this is why people are so alarmed when they see sooo many babies. We have had champion thoroughbreds end up on trucks to Mexico. It’s incomprehensible how people use them as commodities and then sell them off when they are no longer rideable or when the owners move or there’s a change in their circumstances and they can no longer keep them. I hope Denmark or at least this facility has a way of tracking their horses so that they don’t end up abused or slaughtered.
I think that that is what people are concerned about. I really don’t think anyone thinks you are breeding for meat. That would be ridiculous. We’re just concerned for the ones that don’t make it into the dressage or sporting rings. Please don’t get frustrated. Horses have been treated like disposable commodities worldwide for their entire existence. It is only within the last 40 years that people have started speaking up against all the cruelty and abuse perpetrated on them. Thanks to people like the ones expressing concern on this platform horses are starting to have a voice advocating for their welfare.
Unfortunately there is a LONG road ahead as the majority of the world still views horses as expendable commodities to be bought, sold, ridden, bred, worked, and slaughtered. End of story. If Denmark is one of the enlightened few countries that sees the horse as a sentient and fully developed being that must be respected and treated as any other living being then I am super happy to know that and I’m sure others would be too. Perhaps you could educate us on that so that we can all stop commenting. I am just trying to speak for the horse since they don't have any control over their own fate. 💔
@@cihtliAll horses in Denmark do actually have to be registered and chipped. And the owner has to be registered as well. It all gets registered in their pass. So this makes it a lot easier to keep track of them.
Of course we still do have examples of horses going to bad homes, but it is rare. And it is highly unlikely that any of these foals will end up in bad homes, as they go for quite a high price. A yearling Danish Warmblood of this quality is easily 15.000 usd or more when sold to regular amateur riders.

Of course, some of them are 'waste', actually the majority of them, and will end up in some strange stables, the next pseudo-breeding, riding schools, rarely getting into normal conditions - as long as they can earn their way. All I see in this picture is the desire to make money and make money.
@@annawereta9497 Maybe that is how it goes in your country. And if so, I'm sad to hear that. But remember that cultures vary greatly across the world. And of course some of them will end up in better homes than others. And yes, some might be out down due to an injury of some sort.
But all in all, the portion of horses sold to amateurs in Denmark will live a very good life. Having a horse here as a private person (excluding riding schools and breeders who own their own stable) is so expensive that you can't earn money from it, so no one will buy these horses to make money. They will buy them because they want an excellent leisure or amateur competition horse. And they get their money from their job in order to spend some of them on this (quite expensive) hobby.
Surplus horses will be sent to slaughter just like the racehorses who aren't fast enough. That facility looks just like a factory farm. So sad.

Maybe you could tell us more about how Denmark ensures humane and proper treatment of their horses? I would love to hear about that. It would truly be a bright spot in a very dark subject. I’m not being sarcastic. I’m truly interested and would use your country as an example of how people should treat their horses. This is why I follow Matt & Jesse. They are showing the world what good horse ownership and partnership is. And horses worldwide are benefitting from that. I think a lot of us who have subscribed to HorseworldTV came because of Matt & Jesse advocate for animal welfare simply by showing us their life. It’s wonderful and I for one would love to know more about Denmark’s philosophy towards horses.
