    Summary:
Several studies (examples given: twitter sentiment analysis, investment firms, SAT-scores in Denmark, handwashing in US hospitals) show that there are real differences in mood and productivity throughout the day, going through 3 phases. A peak, a through and a recovery.
People usually peak during the morning, go through the through in the afternoon and recover during the evening. People who generally like staying up late can exhibit this in the reverse order however.
Performance is at it's best during the peak and at worst in the through.
He makes the point of a biological cause for this, but doesn't really go much in depth.
TL:DR: We are not consistent during the day. Do important things in the morning.
Do analytic/"hard" tasks during the peak. Administrative tasks during the through and creative things during recovery.
You can remedy the productivity loss during the through by taking a 20-30 minute break right before your task where you detach from the problem at hand (and also from your phone/other distraction keeping your brain busy). A social break is better than a solo break. Seeing nature is good as well.

What to do if you have an important test at 2 in the afternoon?
Take a restorative break before the test.
    20 minutes
with a friend is better than solo
    move (e.g. talke a walk)
    be in nature
    don’t talk about the test
don’t take your phone with you
What to do if you are a night-owl and have an important meeting at 8am?
    1) prepare the day before in your peak time in the evening: write a check list what you want to accomplish and/or say next day
    2) before the meeting go out for a walk around the block (restoritative break)
    3) boost your mood before the meeting by doing something good for somebody else

It's so funny that Dan's energy wears off. Look at the difference between and 3:10 and 54:26

I'm sorry, but I think you're wrong. It's quite difficult to take a nap unless you don't work. Apart from that, in the summer, some jobs have a different timetable so workers don't work in the afternoon, and they can take a nap. Think of some places reaching 40ºC (104ºF) or over. It's quite difficult to work in those conditions specially for construction sector.
