His ship talents, his name, power and most important his power in the water. Half of the strawhats cant do anything in water and the others still need air.

I've always liked Jimbei since his intro, a loyal, kind-hearted badass fishman the helped snap Luffy out if his depression, a friend to everyone, having him join the strawhats is an amazing choice not just for the show / fans, but the world of One Piece too. Because certain places in the world see fishmen and humans differently, so having one mix into a human group shows that they can bridge that gap

Well you could literally put any female from naruto that isnt tsunade or sakura and it would be accurate. Shows you how big a difference there is between Kishimoto and Oda. Oda has by this point almost 1000 if not more characters and a lot them have backstories and the like and then you look at naruto and if you're not team 7 or a few others you aren't even relevant. Plus Jimbei's feats in verse are god tier compared to them. I've always liked Jimbei since his intro, a loyal, kind-hearted badass fishman the helped snap Luffy out if his depression, a friend to everyone, having him join the strawhats is an amazing choice not just for the show / fans, but the world of One Piece too. Because certain places in the world see fishmen and humans differently, so having one mix into a human group shows that they can bridge that gap

At that time he didn't know about Luffy being badass, he saw him as an ordinary human who he had no obligation to look after not even when a 'close friend' like Ace asked him to.
He finally finished all the sidequests and is back to doing the main story
Jimbei is truly one of the best characters in the entire series. Feared by many, loved by more, and so freakin' awesome and strong!
And he was with Luffy during his darkest hour.

What makes this scene so impactful is how important it is to let go of your past regressions towards a group of people. The straw hats, nami especially, have had a horrible first impression of fish-men in Arlong Park and now they have one joining their crew!

Well you could literally put any female from naruto that isnt tsunade or sakura and it would be accurate. Shows you how big a difference there is between Kishimoto and Oda. Oda has by this point almost 1000 if not more characters and a lot them have backstories and the like and then you look at naruto and if you're not team 7 or a few others you aren't even relevant. Plus Jimbei's feats in verse are god tier compared to them. The biggest of which is him looking big mom straight in her double chin face and saying I dont fear a MERE YONKO. he got that goat status from that alone lol

Luffy lived through the pain of losing an older brother twice. Its beautiful that he was able to live through gaining one by having Jinbei be his helmsman.
