Had a super fun time at the prerelease. It's interesting how different the crowds are, no one mentioned the card values at all. Everyone was just talking about how fun the set looked.
i was scrolling through the prices the other day and noticed this. a few card that were $12+, but so many rares from this set are 50 cents to a dollar.
I haven't played MTG since the 90s. My 13 year old said that he wanted to learn to play. So I went to the local card shop on Saturday and asked if they could get us started. The shop sold us the Bloomburrow starter set and several Bloomburrow booster packs. Imagine my surprise when I see Bloomburrow artwork and the last I knew of MTG was the fantasy artwork from the late 90s! lol I'm thinking that MTG has turned into Redwall meets Watership Down lol!!! No worries, we took the cards home have played three games since. Just trying to learn the game at this point. My son loves the cards, the artwork, and the gameplay. I'm looking forward to buying some more booster this weekend!
I'm in the same boat, My 14 year old daughter wanted to learn. Grabbed a playbooster box and the bundle. We are having a ball...it's sooooo different now.
This is why MTG is like playing the stock market, you rush to buy packs and some players and/or collectors will sell rares and mythics for a high amount before there is a chance of the hype wearing down. Back in the early 2000s, I was well known at my lgs for understanding this concept as well as making fairly solid predictions on what will sell high and what will sell low later on.
According to some recent news, WotC changed the rare ratio in Play Boosters between Karlov Manor and Bloomburrow and didn't say anything. The chance to get 2 or more rares is at least 30% lower than it was during Karlov Manor. That's why Play Boosters are weaker now.
Pack value certainly sucks, but if the singles of any set should be cheap, it should be this one. I think this set is great for new players because 1. everyone loves animals and 2. new players love tribal. I think its great that this set is affordable. Just dont buy packs. Tolarian community college has been telling us this for years.
You could not be more correct, got into Mtg this week with the dual pack rabbits/otters, it's really fun to split and play and the artworks are really cute ☺️👍.
I was thinking it was super sketchy when my packs were the equivalent to draft boosters while my opponents cracked packs stuffed with more value. I forgot they upgraded the packs other than the price. I think this inherently disrupts the tournament scene at the heart as the amount of rares dished out is vastly skewed per person.
I have noticed since MH3, on average, about 1 in 4 Collector packs have a Mythic. My friends have noticed this as well, it has been very difficult to pull even a not great mythic, much less one you actually want. I used to buy packs for fun, but now I have just been buying singles.
I've opened about 25 packs so far, a bundle, a pre release and some from a booster box I bought, I have 12 mythics including 3 of the elemental beasts. I've obviously been really lucky.
Well, that has been the case for years now. It's been years since cracking a standard set breaks even or better. Weird that some people are just realizing it.
Mathematically any set currently in print shouldn't break even or better (excluding weird outliers of list cards ect) cause if they did stores wouldn't be selling them at that price.

This raises demand, lowers supply, and raises the cost. Then when the cost of individual cards gets to high, people start cracking packs again which raises supply. I understand it never works this way because people are dumb and overpay for things, but to mention that mathematically packs should be more expensive than what you get out of them is silly, because then a smart person would always just buy the cards they want and the value of the cards would go up surpassing the pack.
Pulled a raised foil and was excited cuz it’s fantastic art only to look up the price and see it’s like $20. Not even enough to cover the cost of the booster
I wanted to own this set, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but value always matters too. I bought 3 play boxes and 2 collector boxes. I was shocked how little value was in them. It's a lesson learned, and I won't be buying any more sealed product outside of sealed events.
I remember the days before everyone could look up the monetary value of every card instantly. People would trade cards just based on what they wanted, not what they were “worth.” And people were excited to open packs because Almost everything you opened was either useable or tradeable. Good times.
My god, the thing that happens every time a new magic set drops happened again. Who would have guessed. But seriously, it's currently sitting at $22 on tcgplayer a week after release, which is really high for a rare. Not sure what the shock and surprise is about
I did very well with my play booster box. 3 packs had double mythic. 1 normal 1 foil. Also got several packs with 3 rares. I averaged 2 rares/mythics per pack. I ended up getting 11 mythic in the box. My collector box was horrible though. I only got 11 mythic total lol
Your box is definitely an outlier. My play booster box had 4 mythics. 0 3 rare packs, 11 double rare/mythic packs for 47 total pulled. Grats on a Crazy play box though

I opened a booster box (and got GREAT pulls) and bought the squirrel edh deck. after deckbuilding / upgrading the squirrels deck with the booster box, my collection, and squirrel upgrades I bought prior to getting the deck, I realized that even WITH this new set there is still very little support for most of the tribes in this set to the point where my squirrel deck couldn't stand up against anyone elses decks, It was too slow and week to fight against 7, 8, or 9 power decks after upgrades (they were not playing bloomburough decks, and mine was HEAVILY modified with better removal, lands, more squirrels, etc.). I then tried to make bats and that is in a very similar boat. This set has awesome flavor and fun cards, but it feels so stretched thin that I think it could have IMMENSLY benefitted from having a two set block. There just isn't enough tribal support imo.
Even with two set's, its unlikely creauture types that are for the most part new to those sets would be able to make a fuctional tribal deck in commander, primarily due to it being a singleton format and just requiring so many tribal cards to have been printed.
I was most bummed that there really wasn’t a ton of bird tribal support. One new commander, one decent but pricey enchantment and the majority of birds in the set only have synergy with creatures without flying.

3:00 had this exact conversation with someone at my LGS today as well...after MH3 it seems like Bloomburrow packs leave so much to be desired I'm kinda offput from spending any money on gambling this time around.
I've noticed the same thing with the prerelease kits. I didn't even get a legendary in my packs. Being a player that primarily plays commander, it was kind of disappointing. But I still had a lot of fun at the events.
I'm curious if people are grilling Rosewater with his comment about us receiving roughly the same value with money we spend on play boosters to justify pricing. This was when the article for playboosters was released. My kit had a mythic, but overall, it wasn't exciting to open. 6/6 Flash moose might as well been a mythic. I did have fun and went 3-1. I'm guessing my lgs is one of the few that does 4 rounds? Cheers Moxman!
Prerelease was fun, the power just wasn’t otj strong I got cards that did decent, but the bloomburrow prerelease made me think what cards would work in other decks afterwards and thats the hard part unless you have a deck that already has said archetype or got super lucky and found a card that fits in all
I have probably done about 5 prerelease events for different sets now and tend to pull 4+ Mythics between the box and win rewards. This time, I pulled one. It definitely bummed me out especially since this was the set I’ve been particularly hyped about and following everything about it.
hey dude, love the content, just a word of advice, they've done a bunch of studies on thumbnails that have the person's face in it and have found that less exaggerated expressions tend to work better. try taking some pictures of yourself looking thoughtful or like your thinking about the topic rather than trying to have an extreme reaction to the topic of the video. might be worth experimenting with.
As a pauper player, there’s like 3 cards that are possibly worth playing, so there’s no use for the chaff, which means the set overall isn’t as powerful or worth as much
Things are different at your LGS. They were completely sold out of product at my LGS. with only like 1 or 2 commander decks left to purchase. I have been to a lot of Pre release events. That usually doesn't happen. I often end up buying a box or two during one of these events.
That's going to be a common thing with MKM, OTJ, BLB, DSK, and likely all standard sets moving forward. Unless they slow their roll with the rapid release cycle, there's no real reason for the stores to maintain high inventory. So many stores and people in general got burnt with the massive overprinting and artificial pricing during the C19 years. The writing is right there if you look at the facts and numbers, not what someone is trying to sell you (both ideals and physical product). Sealed market is not going up, Interest in older stuff just isn't as high. Every time there's a power creep, it only lessens the value of older cards (yes, even some on the RL). They aren't going to short-run Standard sets. They need to have that product available for 3 years. They'll focus on shorting the non-tent pole UB, limited SLD, and likely reprint sets as they tend to not fare as well as standard sets. Shop Smart. Shop S-Mart! #BOOMSTICK
I think a big reason why three trees dropped a lot, is because like you said, the market flooded a bit, but I think a lot of people plan on buying boxes for this set. Many are probably waiting to see if they get a couple in boxes before they spend the money on tcgplayer. That makes the demand plummet. The card is a rare, so the odds of getting it in a box are pretty high. Granted Boseiju Who Endures was only rare and I got 0 in 2 set boxes, a regular bundle and a gift bundle.
I agree, there isn't much value in the box of the bundle I opened, but collectors, wow, I found some amazing treasures here, so I'm unlikely to open another Game Booster.
Opened a Fat Pack bundle, pulled Three Tree City and Rat Colony Special Guest out of the very first pack, but then like nothing of value. I hope the four season basic lands will go up in price in the long run, bundle has one of each .
Seemed like the prerelease boosters are opening pretty differently from the play boosters I got out of a booster box. Didn't hit any double rare boosters in 2 prerelease boxes, but many in my play booster box had double rare.
This wasn't my experience with the Pre-Release at all. I didnt hear anyone mention the value. It could be that MH3 had a lot of big hits and people are comparing it to. Everyone loves the set except people who don't like creature theme decks.
I completely understand why the secondary market value of cards is important to folks. I don't at all mean to belittle its importance for folks. However, this set has been so much fun to draft. It's reignited my interest in the game that wasn't there for the past 3 sets (including mh3). Even if this set doesn't have a single breakout money card in it, I hope people can enjoy it enough in the moment.
I pulled a Maha, gitrog monster, ink-eyes, 3 stormplitters, 2 Warren warleaders, 2 dawns truce, season of the burrow and a raised foil of baylen the haymaker. It's all about luck at the end of the day.
If you are constantly playing a set for financial value, maybe this isnt the game for you. This set is low value, but I went to 2 pre-releases and had such a great time. What a wonderful set. My LGS charged $25 per pre-release. I did not care at all how much value was in these cards because it was supremely fun.
Bruh i don't get how only inn keepers talent out of all the talents is being paid attention too... every single color got a talent enchantment that is in fact very good in its respective strategy... goes to show most people's strategy is just make token go oonga boonga swing for damage
Had a blast at all the events tbh, but I definitely felt a little jaded with my pulls; after 4 play booster boxes, a bundle, and 5 pre-release kits, I didn't open a single Mahu nor the new dragon bird
I think that having the Pro Tour in MH3 is having a bigger effect than people are realizing. Everyone on the planet knows that Energy and Nadu are the good things to be doing from that set. No one has any particular reason to care which Bloomburrow cards are competitively optimal.
As someone who watches values closely, this set has been a little wild. I do think that the cards will find a home and eventually a few outliers will jump up in price, as usual.
I think or least noticed that MTG cards are always sold Raw/Ungraded rather then grading via services like PSA,CGC or Beckett unless they are old sets then yeah they are worth grading.But i happen to think that for this set in particular can see a grading value of some sorts it's on the consumer and buyers to make this happen because some of the Bloomburrow cards are amazing artwork or raied foils so let's see I think Secret Lair foils for Bloomburrow is worth the start for grading services.
I went a combined 6-0-2 over the weekend. 3-0 in for fun games after a few rounds with a second beck I made with my pool. This was at two different shops, one was a 46 person event and the other 8 person. Never felt my pools were terribly strong Over printing and everything being power crept is a recipe for poor value for players As I posted before, moving to play boosters saved wizards money and should have actually brought prices down
Bloomburrow sealed was fun, but as far as card desirability goes, it reminds me of pre-FIRE MTG. That's not a bad thing, but it would wreak havoc on prices. I actually won my prerelease, but my most expensive pull was an $8 mythic that I didn't use.
As someone whose very new to mtg (bloomburrow is the first set I’ve heard of before it dropped mh3 dropped as I got into it) the prices thing really makes sense, no one’s had enough time to flesh out any card ideas so they all feel “cheap” compared to cards with good deck tech that are already known of. I haven’t opened a pack of bloomburrow or anything and I’m not really a player that cares about prices of cards cause I like art. TLDR: cards are new no one’s read them fully yet lmaoo
I bought two boxes of play boosters and was disappointed. I realize it's a gamble on hoping to get some big cards, but even the packs themselves packs themselves lacked the amount of rares compared to other sets. Many had a single rare/ mythic. Hardly any foils of rare or higher. Even the few collector packs had anything worth while. Just my two cents on my sealed experience so far.
I bought one collector box and experienced the "last pack magic" scenario. Out of the last pack pulled a raised foil Camellia, the Seedmiser. Yeah, it's not one of the big hitters, but definitely saved the box.
We are hitting the cleavage wall between player and speculator. Don't forget that speculator buy early sale earlier to maximise their profit, but with the market evolution dynamic they are likely to quit the scene. For player it is a welcome news, but for hasbro... not so much. If speculator quit, it mean less sale, less pre-com for shop, less interest for the the product and ultimately less investment by woc for a apparently less demanded product. Time will tell, but not so sure the way the card market going is such a good news on the long run...
I played all pre releases since march of the machine, and this is the first where the pre release kit + 4 boosters from prize pool didnt break even (even in karlov manor it did), also didnt get any mythics in 6 booster from the kit, maybe I just got unlucky, but was definitely weird
I got screwed. Lgs said they would have prerelease then never got the kits and tried to sell us 6 boosters instead...sorry but thats not the same thing...no promo card? 😢
I mean this was bound to happen and has happened before. The bloomburrow cards are cool, but they are not very powerful in a modern/pioneer environment. Commander has powercreeped too due to the massive influx in cards over the last couple of years. A lot of cards as cool as they are in design and flavour are not going to cut it and therefore demand a lower price. The mythics in this set aren't shaking up any formats any time soon, they are nice to have for commander and that's it for a lot of them. The one high demand card, beeing three tree city will demand a premium but in the long term it is going to be the only card in the set, that's going to retain any value for the near future. (It's just very strong in a very popular commander archetype). Other sets before had some additional possible value in their packs which allowed them to maintain a little bit of value (enchanting tales in eldraine, or the big score in Thunderjunktion) Set's that didn't have such a fallback like murder at karlov manor soon tanked quite severly in price after the sets release. So I'm not surprised, that a lot of players felt a bit left down, I think the hype over the cute set, and the adorable art, overshadowed the fact, that the cards in the set aren't powerful enough to have a larger impact on other formats.
I have a love hate relationship with tribal. I love sliver tribal and tribal with unique mechanics like elves and such but it's frustrating when there is a tribal ethos that you vibe with but it gets no support or relatively low support. Mouse, orc, and kobold tribal I'm looking at you and Crabs! I want crabs to work! Angel tribal always feels like a trap.
I wanna like this set, but the sheer "f*** this s***" disdain for the legacy material has been telling; they didn't show love or respect to the old, so I'm not inclined to give that to the new. Couple that with things like Value Packs and this feels like the new designers going, "see- look, we made better Ravinica because it's cute and a REAL fantasy setting". Not enticing me, over it honestly; they said Magic isn't for certain folks- so why would I engage them afterward?
This product is in high demand.. they printed a TON of it and a TON of people are opening it... the prices of the individual cards will plumet. On the flip side.. a set like Assassins Creed had very little interest and very little product cracked.. those singles are going to be WAY higher.
Out of three prerelease events, got 3 bad pools, 1 prerelease pack had good value though, but it was one out of three. Also found myself thinking these were draft packs under a different name, OTJ was far better on that point because of the special sheets and BIG. I love the Bloomburrow set and waited for it since they revealed it, but damn it was kind of a feel bad on a marketing point from WOTC to just have less rares and less Special Guests.
Pre release was fun, the cards that i got were nice, only for the deck that I build and the luck I got with my matches was not so fun 😂. Will attend next pre release ofc
I opened a pre release and a booster box. 42 packs. Not much of any value and I didn't get anything I was after. I wanted to get a collectors box but they aren't doing serialized cards so ultimately it wasn't worth it for me
i mean is this just a westerner thing? in our place/lgs we didnt assessed the value of the card.. we assessed it's usefulness or will it shake some fomat metas. we really dont care about the value that night. we just wanna know if the cards were gonna see some competitive play or not.
Play boosters bother me as a collector. Bought a booster box and I barely broke even, granted there’s not much value but I barely even pulled anything, the rest seems like bulk
The new play boosters are a joke, out of 36 packs I pulled 40 mythics and rares, so only four packs had more than one rare. And I only pulled a total of 3 mythics.

I noticed the Playboosters dont seem to have that Setbooster feeling
They are pretty much expensive draft boosters with an extra uncommon.
The amount of rares in the set also make getting pulls very frustrating.

After all the edgy sets and the Universes Beyond goofiness BloomBurrow is probably closer to that than MtG's been in a while.
I like this sets theme and art more than the fuckin cowboys xD next we gonna get some WW2 action and some FIFA Universes beyond

Ive opened 2 boxes of bloomburrow playboosters. They suck now. 1 rare, sometimes a second.

I opened a play box yesterday and had a feeling I was opening draft boosters. That's it - play boosters = draft boosters at the increased price.

I bought a prerealse kit and a bundle. I got only one mythic out of 15 packs ........
I opened 21 play boosters and only pulled 2 mythics. Mythics are very hard to pull from play packs.
I did not get any lol but it was a fun prerelease

MH3 broke this tradition in half.

The set is very self contained which makes a very good limited experience but how many critter support will be there in the next sets?
Yes, definitely.A draft pack with a different name did not get the.Rears or myths that we used to in the last set.And I did not get a dice in my box

My prerelease kit had 3 of the same rares (one came from the foil slot). It was a good creature so my opponents did not appreciate the duplication.
I opened 6 packs and received 8 rares/mythics. Wow. I love the "1-4 rares" per pack.
At the OTJ prerelease, and MH3, I had between 12-14 rares.
Hasbro: "We've had WotC raise the price 3 times, why aren't these low-quality, beat up cards selling more?"

I actually didn't go to another pre-release after the first one, because the value isn't there. I don't play standard, so I don't need any cards.
I did very well with my play booster box. 3 packs had double mythic. 1 normal 1 foil. Also got several packs with 3 rares. I averaged 2 rares/mythics per pack. I ended up getting 11 mythic in the box. My collector box was horrible though. I only got 11 mythic total lol
Your box is definitely an outlier. My play booster box had 4 mythics. 0 3 rare packs, 11 double rare/mythic packs for 47 total pulled. Grats on a Crazy play box though

I went to 2 pre-release events at my local LGS. Had a blast. It's a great set.
I opened a booster box (and got GREAT pulls) and bought the squirrel edh deck. after deckbuilding / upgrading the squirrels deck with the booster box, my collection, and squirrel upgrades I bought prior to getting the deck, I realized that even WITH this new set there is still very little support for most of the tribes in this set to the point where my squirrel deck couldn't stand up against anyone elses decks, It was too slow and week to fight against 7, 8, or 9 power decks after upgrades (they were not playing bloomburough decks, and mine was HEAVILY modified with better removal, lands, more squirrels, etc.). I then tried to make bats and that is in a very similar boat. This set has awesome flavor and fun cards, but it feels so stretched thin that I think it could have IMMENSLY benefitted from having a two set block. There just isn't enough tribal support imo.
Even with two set's, its unlikely creauture types that are for the most part new to those sets would be able to make a fuctional tribal deck in commander, primarily due to it being a singleton format and just requiring so many tribal cards to have been printed.
It does have some good cards for more well rounded existing tribal decks, but not enough of many these creatures types in magic to build in singleton
I was most bummed that there really wasn’t a ton of bird tribal support. One new commander, one decent but pricey enchantment and the majority of birds in the set only have synergy with creatures without flying.

3:00 had this exact conversation with someone at my LGS today as well...after MH3 it seems like Bloomburrow packs leave so much to be desired I'm kinda offput from spending any money on gambling this time around.
I've noticed the same thing with the prerelease kits. I didn't even get a legendary in my packs. Being a player that primarily plays commander, it was kind of disappointing. But I still had a lot of fun at the events.
I'm curious if people are grilling Rosewater with his comment about us receiving roughly the same value with money we spend on play boosters to justify pricing. This was when the article for playboosters was released.
My kit had a mythic, but overall, it wasn't exciting to open. 6/6 Flash moose might as well been a mythic. I did have fun and went 3-1. I'm guessing my lgs is one of the few that does 4 rounds? Cheers Moxman!

Prerelease was fun, the power just wasn’t otj strong I got cards that did decent, but the bloomburrow prerelease made me think what cards would work in other decks afterwards and thats the hard part unless you have a deck that already has said archetype or got super lucky and found a card that fits in all
I have probably done about 5 prerelease events for different sets now and tend to pull 4+ Mythics between the box and win rewards. This time, I pulled one. It definitely bummed me out especially since this was the set I’ve been particularly hyped about and following everything about it.
hey dude, love the content, just a word of advice, they've done a bunch of studies on thumbnails that have the person's face in it and have found that less exaggerated expressions tend to work better. try taking some pictures of yourself looking thoughtful or like your thinking about the topic rather than trying to have an extreme reaction to the topic of the video. might be worth experimenting with.
As a pauper player, there’s like 3 cards that are possibly worth playing, so there’s no use for the chaff, which means the set overall isn’t as powerful or worth as much
Things are different at your LGS. They were completely sold out of product at my LGS. with only like 1 or 2 commander decks left to purchase. I have been to a lot of Pre release events. That usually doesn't happen. I often end up buying a box or two during one of these events.

That's going to be a common thing with MKM, OTJ, BLB, DSK, and likely all standard sets moving forward. Unless they slow their roll with the rapid release cycle, there's no real reason for the stores to maintain high inventory. So many stores and people in general got burnt with the massive overprinting and artificial pricing during the C19 years. The writing is right there if you look at the facts and numbers, not what someone is trying to sell you (both ideals and physical product). Sealed market is not going up, Interest in older stuff just isn't as high. Every time there's a power creep, it only lessens the value of older cards (yes, even some on the RL).
They aren't going to short-run Standard sets. They need to have that product available for 3 years. They'll focus on shorting the non-tent pole UB, limited SLD, and likely reprint sets as they tend to not fare as well as standard sets.

I think a big reason why three trees dropped a lot, is because like you said, the market flooded a bit, but I think a lot of people plan on buying boxes for this set. Many are probably waiting to see if they get a couple in boxes before they spend the money on tcgplayer. That makes the demand plummet. The card is a rare, so the odds of getting it in a box are pretty high. Granted Boseiju Who Endures was only rare and I got 0 in 2 set boxes, a regular bundle and a gift bundle.
I agree, there isn't much value in the box of the bundle I opened, but collectors, wow, I found some amazing treasures here, so I'm unlikely to open another Game Booster.

Opened a Fat Pack bundle, pulled Three Tree City and Rat Colony Special Guest out of the very first pack, but then like nothing of value.
I hope the four season basic lands will go up in price in the long run, bundle has one of each .
I opened a full 36 pack box. It seemed the pulls were way down. 6 mythic and one 37 rare. Maybe a bad box or pull rates have changed.

Seemed like the prerelease boosters are opening pretty differently from the play boosters I got out of a booster box. Didn't hit any double rare boosters in 2 prerelease boxes, but many in my play booster box had double rare.
Multiple of my pre releases had extra rares. I opened 8 rares on prerelease and 9 my next!
This wasn't my experience with the Pre-Release at all. I didnt hear anyone mention the value. It could be that MH3 had a lot of big hits and people are comparing it to. Everyone loves the set except people who don't like creature theme decks.
Bought a collectors. Got nissa and elspeth as animals in foil. My table were all saying “those have GOTTA be worth something”

I completely understand why the secondary market value of cards is important to folks. I don't at all mean to belittle its importance for folks.
However, this set has been so much fun to draft. It's reignited my interest in the game that wasn't there for the past 3 sets (including mh3).
Even if this set doesn't have a single breakout money card in it, I hope people can enjoy it enough in the moment.
Pre-release was awesome. Was so excited, I cracked a Collector’s on my channel. The excitement dried up real quick.
All the collector boxes openings of Bloomburrow i saw was underwhelming to say the least.
I pulled a Maha, gitrog monster, ink-eyes, 3 stormplitters, 2 Warren warleaders, 2 dawns truce, season of the burrow and a raised foil of baylen the haymaker. It's all about luck at the end of the day.

If you are constantly playing a set for financial value, maybe this isnt the game for you. This set is low value, but I went to 2 pre-releases and had such a great time. What a wonderful set. My LGS charged $25 per pre-release. I did not care at all how much value was in these cards because it was supremely fun.
It Is the post Modern Horizons set, of course it's going to feel underpowered.
Bruh i don't get how only inn keepers talent out of all the talents is being paid attention too... every single color got a talent enchantment that is in fact very good in its respective strategy... goes to show most people's strategy is just make token go oonga boonga swing for damage

Had a blast at all the events tbh, but I definitely felt a little jaded with my pulls; after 4 play booster boxes, a bundle, and 5 pre-release kits, I didn't open a single Mahu nor the new dragon bird

I think that having the Pro Tour in MH3 is having a bigger effect than people are realizing. Everyone on the planet knows that Energy and Nadu are the good things to be doing from that set. No one has any particular reason to care which Bloomburrow cards are competitively optimal.
As someone who watches values closely, this set has been a little wild. I do think that the cards will find a home and eventually a few outliers will jump up in price, as usual.
I opened 6 play boosters at the prerelease and won 7 packs. The total value I opened is less than $10, mostly carried by the full art foil lands.

They changed name on the draft boosters, to break the "Price" memory we have.. Nothing more to divert attention for a price surge.
I think or least noticed that MTG cards are always sold Raw/Ungraded rather then grading via services like PSA,CGC or Beckett unless they are old sets then yeah they are worth grading.But i happen to think that for this set in particular can see a grading value of some sorts it's on the consumer and buyers to make this happen because some of the Bloomburrow cards are amazing artwork or raied foils so let's see I think Secret Lair foils for Bloomburrow is worth the start for grading services.
My LGS has always allowed old packs to be the prizes. Currently it is anything under $7. Unfortunately Assassin’s Creed is priced at $7.30.
I went a combined 6-0-2 over the weekend. 3-0 in for fun games after a few rounds with a second beck I made with my pool. This was at two different shops, one was a 46 person event and the other 8 person. Never felt my pools were terribly strong
Over printing and everything being power crept is a recipe for poor value for players

21 packs. (2 pre release, 1 bundle, 4 single packs) pulled 4 legendary creatures, 2 were the orzov bat.
Bloomburrow sealed was fun, but as far as card desirability goes, it reminds me of pre-FIRE MTG. That's not a bad thing, but it would wreak havoc on prices. I actually won my prerelease, but my most expensive pull was an $8 mythic that I didn't use.
I like how stable the prices are. Not the usual major waves, and spikes everywhere. The markets more predictable.
As someone whose very new to mtg (bloomburrow is the first set I’ve heard of before it dropped mh3 dropped as I got into it) the prices thing really makes sense, no one’s had enough time to flesh out any card ideas so they all feel “cheap” compared to cards with good deck tech that are already known of. I haven’t opened a pack of bloomburrow or anything and I’m not really a player that cares about prices of cards cause I like art. TLDR: cards are new no one’s read them fully yet lmaoo

I bought two boxes of play boosters and was disappointed. I realize it's a gamble on hoping to get some big cards, but even the packs themselves packs themselves lacked the amount of rares compared to other sets. Many had a single rare/ mythic. Hardly any foils of rare or higher. Even the few collector packs had anything worth while. Just my two cents on my sealed experience so far.
Loved the prerelease but the cards and value will have to wait and see I think

I bought one collector box and experienced the "last pack magic" scenario. Out of the last pack pulled a raised foil Camellia, the Seedmiser. Yeah, it's not one of the big hitters, but definitely saved the box.
Concerned about packs not getting more for their price now but still enjoying the set I can see it getting more momentum

I didn't hit a bonus rare from one of my play boosters. Felt just like draft booster.
We are hitting the cleavage wall between player and speculator. Don't forget that speculator buy early sale earlier to maximise their profit, but with the market evolution dynamic they are likely to quit the scene. For player it is a welcome news, but for hasbro... not so much. If speculator quit, it mean less sale, less pre-com for shop, less interest for the the product and ultimately less investment by woc for a apparently less demanded product. Time will tell, but not so sure the way the card market going is such a good news on the long run...

I played all pre releases since march of the machine, and this is the first where the pre release kit + 4 boosters from prize pool didnt break even (even in karlov manor it did), also didnt get any mythics in 6 booster from the kit, maybe I just got unlucky, but was definitely weird
I got screwed. Lgs said they would have prerelease then never got the kits and tried to sell us 6 boosters instead...sorry but thats not the same thing...no promo card? 😢
I mean this was bound to happen and has happened before. The bloomburrow cards are cool, but they are not very powerful in a modern/pioneer environment. Commander has powercreeped too due to the massive influx in cards over the last couple of years. A lot of cards as cool as they are in design and flavour are not going to cut it and therefore demand a lower price. The mythics in this set aren't shaking up any formats any time soon, they are nice to have for commander and that's it for a lot of them. The one high demand card, beeing three tree city will demand a premium but in the long term it is going to be the only card in the set, that's going to retain any value for the near future. (It's just very strong in a very popular commander archetype).
Other sets before had some additional possible value in their packs which allowed them to maintain a little bit of value (enchanting tales in eldraine, or the big score in Thunderjunktion) Set's that didn't have such a fallback like murder at karlov manor soon tanked quite severly in price after the sets release. So I'm not surprised, that a lot of players felt a bit left down, I think the hype over the cute set, and the adorable art, overshadowed the fact, that the cards in the set aren't powerful enough to have a larger impact on other formats.
I have a love hate relationship with tribal. I love sliver tribal and tribal with unique mechanics like elves and such but it's frustrating when there is a tribal ethos that you vibe with but it gets no support or relatively low support. Mouse, orc, and kobold tribal I'm looking at you and Crabs! I want crabs to work! Angel tribal always feels like a trap.
I wanna like this set, but the sheer "f*** this s***" disdain for the legacy material has been telling; they didn't show love or respect to the old, so I'm not inclined to give that to the new.
Couple that with things like Value Packs and this feels like the new designers going, "see- look, we made better Ravinica because it's cute and a REAL fantasy setting". Not enticing me, over it honestly; they said Magic isn't for certain folks- so why would I engage them afterward?
This product is in high demand.. they printed a TON of it and a TON of people are opening it... the prices of the individual cards will plumet. On the flip side.. a set like Assassins Creed had very little interest and very little product cracked.. those singles are going to be WAY higher.
I'm waiting for Hasbro to go full circle. Give us the OG wotc packs with super rare foil cards.

Out of three prerelease events, got 3 bad pools, 1 prerelease pack had good value though, but it was one out of three. Also found myself thinking these were draft packs under a different name, OTJ was far better on that point because of the special sheets and BIG. I love the Bloomburrow set and waited for it since they revealed it, but damn it was kind of a feel bad on a marketing point from WOTC to just have less rares and less Special Guests.

I opened a pre release and a booster box. 42 packs. Not much of any value and I didn't get anything I was after. I wanted to get a collectors box but they aren't doing serialized cards so ultimately it wasn't worth it for me

i mean is this just a westerner thing? in our place/lgs we didnt assessed the value of the card.. we assessed it's usefulness or will it shake some fomat metas. we really dont care about the value that night. we just wanna know if the cards were gonna see some competitive play or not.

This happens every set. At this point if you are opening a set to gain money you are playing the game wrong imo.
The new play boosters are a joke, out of 36 packs I pulled 40 mythics and rares, so only four packs had more than one rare. And I only pulled a total of 3 mythics.
