My high school and college years in the 80s. Glorious. No cell phones, drinking age was still 18 in a lot of places, and life was pretty good. I'd go back for sure.
All of us older folks (I’m 46) that grew up in the 80’s, we’ve been trying to tell you younger generation folks, this what our radio sounded like. It was hit, after hit, after hit, after 80. Cumulative wise, no other decade can touch the 80’s.
Wow, brings back so many great memories, when I was care free, and living life with do mush joy. I'm 60 years old, 4 grown beautiful kids, 4 beautiful grandkids, and look back in the day with fond heart felt happiness. Thanks for the journey.
Pope! How are you? Even though I am a Juventus fan, I love your AC Milan jersey! I just discovered your channel. Yes! Those were ALL 80s hits and very familiar songs. I keep going with your interest in the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. They were the best. Also, spread the word!! We have to educate the younger generation that the music of today is nothing compared to the decades of the past.
Agreed. I was born in 89, so I mostly grew up with my mother's music from the 70's and 80's (and of course 90's music in the radio). In my opinion, the 80's had the best music, followed by the 60's, followed by the 90's, followed by uh... 70's and 2000's on a shared place, lol. Most music made past 2010 is just sad and past 2020, downright depressing 😆I know I'll be accused of bias cause it's "what the youngins listen to" or whatever, but I am after all only 34 and I think it's objective, that modern music has very little melody, hardly ever any real instruments and is largely one-dimensional and samey.
@@Kev27RS Like everything, this is a subjective matter, but it is widely regarded that the songwriting and melodies were stronger during the sixties, and if you were to drop your age bias, this become apparent to you. The eighties and nineties have their share of great bands, but the vast majority can't hold up to the likes of Dylan, Hendrix, Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces, Stones, Zappa, The Byrds, The Doors, ad infinitum. There really is no comparison, and as i said earlier, this has been the general consensus for years now!

@@Kev27RS Talk Talk, my favourite band were a product of the eighties, although their last two albums are timeless, unplaceable masterpieces, and Nirvana, the most important rock band of the nineties could release 'Teen Spirit' today, and it would fit straight back into the modern landscape! You cannot say this about the majority of eighties acts, as they are chained to the synthetic production values of the day. What's most important is that you like what you choose to, and that agreeing to disagree is the sensible outcome! Cheers.
Talk about a trip down memory lane. These were my teen years. On a side note, this reminded me of a weird dream I had a few months ago where I was trying to crawl up a sand dune while being circled by toddlers riding electric tricycles and singing "Rock me Amadeus" Hey, I said it was weird... 🤣😂🤣

absolutely, people had a unique sound or else they didn't get on the radio, and you needed a great song to be on the radio or just wouldn't be on it, you had tons of one hit wonders, you don't have one hit wonders now, it's just a couple of the same people getting on the radio no matter what they put up, the game is rigged, songs put together with the same formula and imagery marketed over art, the 80's had great songs in all genres, I think we probably peaked in the late 80's, somewhere around there, when the internet came, or at least the mp3..it all went down hill, a blessing and a curse

This resulted in pressures for slick production and tighter, more accessible hooks, competition for more video rotation in addition to radio. The old guard of the 60s and 70s had to sink or swim with these new demands. Many great veteran artists had to compromise; YES went for a harder, metal-pop sound, Genesis went mainstream pop, David Bowie went for a slick, refined, dance pop approach which resulted in his weakest period. Pink Floyd broke up, Led Zep were no more. In spite of all these difficult shifts new artists like Prince, Talking Heads, Eurythmics,The Police, Madonna, and of course Michael Jackson's peak period, Peter Gabriel's strongest era, etc, introduced an exciting new paradigm. It was a very interesting shift into a more "plastic" era and artists who were used to surviving via the power of their music and concert draws alone were faced with a very difficult transitional era for pop-rock.
I know their are pockets of good music happening today. That said. With everything laid out like that. I can't help but notice. How diverse even the mainstream popular music sounds, of that era were. Compared to today's.

I was in my late teens during the beginning of the 80's, early 20's in the latter part of the decade. Hearing some of these brings back some fond memories of the time.

Stanislav Petrov was the commanding officer in the command center of the Oko nuclear early-warning system. when 6 launches were detected out of the US. He disregarded his orders concerned that it was an error... which it was... If the Soviets had launched retaliatory strikes the US would retaliate in kind this would have been well devastating so we got lucky there. Then Able Archer 83 happened where the US and Nato didn't tell the Soviets it was a simulation/Wargames and they thought Nato was about to invade so they prepared with troop movements and prepared their missile forces to launch... thankfully that shook Nato up and they ended the wargames. Thankfully things cool way the fuck off after this... so just remember in some fucked up apocalyptic version in 1983 the world as we knew it ended.
