      I think the production is too jazzy, funky, and laid back for some folks. Blacker the Berry is the only "Banger", and I think musically some people just can't get with the production.
      Crazy thing about it; Section#80 was very jazzy too, and when I first heard it, I had to get used to it. Glad I didn't give up quick. Because its now one of my favorite albums.....period. We will see if TPAB has the same effect...

      Foolie Yea I can understand why people cant sit wit it. I love that sound anyway. The first time I played it, it really didn't suck me in until U. I thought it was cool but I got to track 6 and was like, Interesting. The more I listened to it, I was like ok I get it. But yea I love jazz and funk. Those two styles are timeless to me.

    No one seems to mention WHY Kendrick chose Pac to appear on the album in the first place. 2Pac was the last major black artist to implement and push social awareness and change in an extraordinary way. Kendrick mentioned he had a dream when he was younger that Pac came to him and said, "DON'T LET MY MUSIC DIE." Kendrick wouldn't be writing music if it wasn't for the inspiration. Also TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY seems to be inspired by Pac's poem THE ROSE THAT GREW FROM CONCRETE.

    this album has a special place in my heart. it almost reads like a confessional, as if he was making good on his statement of righting his wrongs by writing them for real from poetic justice. this album is a mirror that starts pointed at kendrick allowing you a look into his life on a deeply personal level that he slowly turns in your direction forcing you to reflect on your current situation. it is unrelenting, unapologetic and highly ambitious. I didn't love it the first time I listened to it, I couldn't get into the sound, it was really hard to approach and a bit cluttered. I was really down one day and decided to play it on a whim and it crushed me. it also saved me, I have used it as a tool to reevaluate a lot of things, kendrick has done the world a service with this album.

    I agreed with Fee about the first time listening to the album. When I heard Wesley's Theory, I was about to cry. I hated it so much. Keep in mind, I have no knowledge about what this whole album was about, I didn't know what TPAB meant, I was just hoping for an album just as good as GKMC. Shit didn't really click for me until "u" played and I started the entire album from the beginning again. Kendrick is a genius and I'm so glad I understood and ended up enjoying the whole concept.

      +M U V A H M A Y A I felt the same way as you. I'm a guy from a 3rd world country who doesn't know shit about hiphop. The only thing that reaches our country are pop music. So we don't really hear conscious albums like this. At first what I liked was "i" and "king kunta", cause it's probably the most banger TPAB has. But after a few listens, the other songs started to grow on me, and my focus would jump from one song to another. I started loving "wesley's theory", "u", "you ain't gotta lie", "blacker the berry" and so on.
      TPAB is not really "mainstream" material. What I appreciate about it is how Kendrick still did it even if he still isn't that big. Most rappers/artists would continue releasing "pop" music until they get really big, and then when they get so big, that's when they start to have the artistic freedom to do what they want(even though most of them still don't get out of the comfort of the bubble that is "pop" music).

    This album is the best hip hop album I've ever heard. Period. I love the way that Kendrick tells the poem that the album is really based on at the end of the album, allowing you to realize that the album is about his struggles, experiences, and feelings as he transitions from a young man in Compton who is finally being heard by many people (the caterpillar in the poem) to a multi million dollar hip hop artist (the butterfly in the poem). This album is so well thought out and is truly an artistic masterpiece. Well done Kendrick.

    Kendrick is one of the greatest story tellers in hip hop history. When u listen to GKMC you can picture what's happening. When you hear songs like How Much A Dollar Cost, you see the story unfold in your head. When you hear DUCKWORTH you can see the situation unfolding. He's up there with Big and Nas and 3k with that story telling ability and he has yet to put out a wack project. Maybe TPAB didn't appeal to you, but you can't deny it's poetic creativity. Kendrick will go down as one of the greatest artists ever in music if he keeps on his streak of amazing art. And there really is no argument unless you're a troll or close minded person. He's the only current artist in any genre I can say this about.

    Please Read: FAN-BOYING IS MAKING IT HARD TO ENJOY THE MUSIC OF OTHER ARTISTS
    To J.Cole fans: Kendrick and J.Cole are bros, they are trying to push the genre forward, it's ok to think one is better but to slander the other is unnecessary.
    Joey Bada$$ fans: Joey and Kendrick both respect each other and again are trying to move hip hop forward. You have to realize that K Dot was once a 20 year MC who was really dope, but there were more popular rappers that he was better than. He and his fans didn't bitch about it, he just kept making better mixtapes until he got noticed. Joey has all time great potential.
    Logic fans: Read above paragraph.
    Lupe fans: Lupe dropped a dope project, but you have to remember the spotlight isn't on him as much as it used to be and he's acknowledged this. He deserves At LEAST a Grammy Nomination.
    Drake Fans: Kendrick will never be able to sing like Drake. Kendrick will never have as many hits as Drake. Drake has not shown the ability to make concept albums like Kendrick, K Dot is the better lyricist, and would murder Drake in a rap battle. What is the debate about? It's clearly just preference.

    I'm surprised that so many people couldn't get behind the instrumentals of the album. The instrumentals are the part of the album that I've enjoyed from the first listen. The lyrical content is the part that took several listens to really get. Then again I find most modern trap beats utterly boring, so maybe it's just me.

    • @featherycoffee1401
      @featherycoffee1401 2 роки тому +1

      Honest question,
      If you enjoy other albums more, how come it still is your favourite?
      Can you even rank them on this "objective" scale that doesn't actually exist because art can never be truly objective
      Okay, so let's Hypothetically make an example,
      E MO TION, pretty basic pop album, not ambitious at all, lyrics are pretty generic, but if I enjoy it more than this grand influential concept album that makes a massive artistic statement, let's randomly pick OK Computer, Hugely influential, lauded by critics like nothing else and considered the best album ever made by many.
      But, if I enjoy E MO TION more than OK COMPUTER, shouldn't I have E MO TION as my favourite album of all time?
      Since everything is subjective, shouldn't enjoyability be the ultimate deciding factor and not this artistic merit that others don't even see? (For example, Scaruffi gave TPAB a 6.5, and that's less than 100 gecs and XXtentacion)

    • @calliope_x3
      @calliope_x3 2 роки тому

      @@featherycoffee1401 No, its not my FAVORITE album of all time-- I consider it from an artistic standpoint the BEST album. You're entirely correct that my favorite album should be the one I enjoy the most.
      An example of what i mean in another medium is TV. I consider Avatar: The Last Airbender the BEST show I have ever seen, in terms of writing and depth and style, but there are other shows that I ENJOY more on a much more subjective level. My FAVORITE show is Red vs Blue, which is a deeply stupid show about halo characters, but as much as I enjoy it, it's nowhere close to ATLA or a hundred other shows in terms of art value.

    No doubt the album is trying to empower black people and uplift them outta the hole they stuck in as a race. its kendicks roots, hes speaking on something he cares about. However, the album has many many other qualities that are applied to others regardless of race. if you are poor you can relate to this album more than most. and the list goes on its not just race. To add on, true art is open to many interpretations. you could take each song so many different ways i wont even get into examples. bottem line, this album is needed in this day and age, i think it should be required for every american to listen, simply dope

    I’m with Myke..there’s all this pressure to like this album as though if you say you don’t that mean you didn’t get it. The concept is incredible and came together beautifully. But if you don’t like how certain songs vibe with you that’s just that. I also enjoyed Good Kid more than I vibe to this, as brilliant a piece of art it is.
