    So beautiful, indeed. When I was raising guinea I built a 'hutch' for the girl and she was very interested in laying there... unfortunately I had to move before, but, you should try building a 'thatch' cover, igloo type house for the girls... you have the banana and other leaves and branches....

    I have had guinea hens for a long time and I have never had any of my broody guinea hens stay in their next when I approach. They usually run from/fly form their nest as soon as anybody get close to the nest.

    Beautiful guineas! Thank you so much for this video.
    I noticed you have two different colors of keets! Are the males lighter and the hens darker at hatching?

    • @PermacultureHaven
      @PermacultureHaven  5 років тому +1

      Thank you very much Amy :) Yes, we have two different colours, both colours boys and girls :)

    • @amy3458

      Food Forest Cookery OK, thank you so much. We have 5 3-week old lavender keets. One is the light color while four are of the darker coloring. We were wondering if the males are lighter while the females start out darker and fade to their light lavender shade.
      Our lighter keet walks backwards and we’ve read only males can do that. Do you know if that’s true?
      Thank you and may God bless you and your food forest!!!

    • @PermacultureHaven

    Beautiful Lavenders. Surprised how motherly they were, I heard Guinea fowl aren't very good mothers. Haven't had opportunity to test it out yet.

    • @willoperez5681
      @willoperez5681 5 років тому +2

      Guinea are great mothers. Lost many in the nest when they nested in the forest.They will fight detrimentaly to protect the nest. Lost many mothers to predators and now prefer secured areas for nesting.

      the primary reason they are considered bad moms is because once hatched the mom does not protect them from the environment such as dew, rain and cold. many of the babies fall to neglect or get left behind once too often. and sometimes the hens do not remain broody through the hatch.

  • @angeldedios7377
    @angeldedios7377 3 роки тому +1

    Many keets won't hatch because you disturb them so much.When it's about time to hatch U should never disturb them.

      Permaculture Haven thank you for your fast response 🥰. So how many eggs would you say one guinea lays per year?

    • @PermacultureHaven
      @PermacultureHaven  5 років тому +1

      Its really hard to say as all our adult guinea fowls are free ranging, we don't always find their nest and we don't know exactly how many of the girls we have :)

    • @czechmate954
      @czechmate954 5 років тому

      Permaculture Haven thank you for your reply. I don’t think I have seen such beautiful lavender guineas like yours before! Do you also sell some guinea eggs to potential breeders, or do you eat them & keep for hatching keets only?

    • @PermacultureHaven
      @PermacultureHaven  4 роки тому

      Sorry for the late reply. Your message went under somehow. The eggs are not easy to find as they nest anywhere :) The ones we find we usually use for breeding but we might sell some if someone asks.
