I think the UA-cam algorithm might be trying to give me therapy. I used to play this at my uncle's house. He died last week and this video brings back some much needed happy memories.
Thank you ❤
You don't have to use the Chron-O-John every time you want to send items between characters, you just click the item then click it on the character's icon.
+Idanu Boyo I completely forgot about that! I did know you could at some point but it had slipped my mind; handy thing to know.
+PushingUpRoses If you need help beating this game, I can help. Beat it back in the day and still remember how. ;)
+PushingUpRoses and you should review The Dig eh? ;)
+Idanu Boyo Yea First time I played through it completely without knowing you could do that!
You can do that!? I... Never knew, and I've had the game since the mid 90s.
I used to talk about this game all the time with my brother. One day he walked in while I was playing and he says, "So when do you meet Dave?" I was like, "Huh? Who's Dave?" He says, "Well, you're always going on about Dave the Tentacle..."
technically day of the tentacle remastered is 3 games in one.
the remaster
the original
and you can play the full maniac mansion in weird ed's room
Great observation!
I've been playing this game since I was 12 and it never dawned on me until now that Laverne was probably stoned. Then she dropped her "parents at Woodstock" line and all the dots connected. Mind blown.
I can't blame her at all. Pretty sure Hoagie got in on that, also.
"That looks like a tomato, LETTUCE go into the introduction." Sorry, I've played way too much Guild Wars 2.
This is definitely my favorite point-and-click game to this day.
One of the best games ever made. Incredible artwork, humor, puzzles, etc.
I love the way you get so excited when it boots up Roses. LGR gets the same amount of excitement with his stuff. It's just nice to watch a couple people who really enjoy what they do! It's infectious.
They need to do exactly this to the Lucasarts Indiana Jones adventure games, especially Fate of Atlantis. That would make my year.
Also Dr. Fred rubs his hands together because he hasn't slept in 20 years and is addicted to coffee.
Yeah i played the rom available on that wii game
Controls sucked
its never stated outright but this game takes place in pennsylvania, you can tell by the philly accents, the founding fathers meeting up and hoagie is a term for sandwich in PA
I can't wait to play this game again. Now if they would remaster the original Sam & Max, I'd be soooo happy.
+GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I think Full Throttle is next on the list. I read that somewhere.
GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I'm hoping they'll make a sequel to Dott (not maniac mansion 3 but LITERALLY day of the tentacle 2 (electric boogaloo 😄))
I would Love a redo of the original sam and max. I cant find the original anywhere and I dont just wanna emulate it again. Gimme da game!!
@@kamenanew9867 really? It’s on steam
@@thejman5683 seriously?! I feel...less than brilliant. Thank you
I'm still waiting for a Sam & Max Hit The Road remake. But I loved when they did this from Grim Fandango so I'm sure I will enjoy this one too.
"Bernard, float over here so I can punch you." Hehe. I can't wait to play this again. This was my first CD-ROM talkie I played back in the day.
Roses always plays the best games, like it's always stuff I loved playing as a kid.
One of my favourite games of all time. My devotion to you and your channel is now total.
The first adventure I recall using context-sensitive pop up menus was a super obscure french game named Kult: The Temple of Flying Saucers.
Wonderful to hear you so happy and enjoying yourself, Roses! Keep it up!
This game review was very different to your others, felt more Mystery Science Theater 3000'y & I love it. Fondest of memories for this title.
I'm fine with these remastered versions. I'm glad, that they didn't try to fix something, that was already perfect. They just added a new perspective.
This looks great! One of my favourite games of all time and a must buy. Thanks for the look.
I squeaked when I saw this on GOG. This is among my top 5 favourite games of all time. I'm so stoked to play it again. :D
Now I want a LOOM remastered. I fucking loved LOOM
+Sheepy007 Me too and also a sequel please.
There is a fan game it's called "Forge" which is quiet good.
The nostalgia.. and it's SO pretty now.. it was fun as heck back then.. but it's like a game that I wouldn't be embarrassed to say "yeah, I played that, and liked it" now..
Ahh, my childhood has been remastered!
Thanks for the video! Already pre-ordered it but it's nice to see what the new features look like before launch.
Very much appreciated!
The pick-up I needed, thank you for being so lovely.
did you know that manic mansion is included in the remastered just like it was with the original Day of the Tentacle.
I wish they did another remastered version of Maniac Mansion....
I just watching this video and I have to say that your joy in playing gives me joy in watching 😊
Thanks for the video. It gave me a flashback of how stuck 14 year old me was by the puzzle that involved sending wine into the future to make vinegar. With no knowledge of alcohol or chemistry I had no chance with that one 😔
This takes me back to 2003, where I first played and beat this game on a PDA. With stylus it was actually pretty fun. Glad to see the time didn't ruin the voice acting recordings!
This is one of my all time favorite games. Cool video.
If there was is a speed run time for this i would be right up there. This was the first game i can remember completing and memorizing completely. LucasArts games where my childhood and i couldent be happier!
I always perceived hoagy as stoned. Laverne is just nuts.
“Won’t you get chaffed hands doing that.”
“Sorry, coffee jitters.”
Best Lucas Arts game! I remember getting this for Christmas as a kid and thought, "This can't replace X-Wing vs Tie Fighter" but overnight I was obsessed! So glad to see a remastered version. Have fun in your quest to finally finish the game!
Plans were there because they were used as copy protection, you had to adjust oil, vinegar and bread to make the battery work. Ah, how many tries to pass that point without the manual. I love this game.
The third game in the Deponia series works much the same way. The main character accidentally clones himself, and he's stuck in three different areas, and he has to send his clones various items that will come in handy wherever they are.
On that note, Roses, you need to check out some of Daedalic's point-and-click adventures. I think you'd really enjoy them.
Loved replaying this game
Thanks, Roses! I loved Maniac Mansion but never got the chance to play the sequel proper no matter how bad I wanted to. You just sold me on this one!
Nostalgia. This Is amazing
love this game. Played it a bunch of times.
You mentioned the lips movement being taken from the original. In my opinion it's actually better this way then actual real lipsync. Always loved the "Wah-Blah"-mouths of Lucas Arts Adventures. :)
Loved Maniac Mansion and this one.. Damn tentacles!!
I never knew I'd see this classic getting a remastered edition... I played this back in the day along with Grim Fandango which I also know has been remastered! Lot of nostalgia here, I'll have to get these Remasters myself. Cool gameplay and overview.
That step three, though. Such a lovely little touch.
the copy protection was hilarious
Definitely one of my all time favorite games. I remember playing the hell out of this game and it took me a month to get through the game (I think).
This was one of the first games I got with voice acting, back in 1993 when I just bought my first sound card. I would just play the intro over and over again. (the rest of the game was not spoken, until they released a CD-ROM version, later) As a result I can still recite the first 5 minutes by heart
I still remember the original Maniac Mansion and Secret of Monkey Island (floppy disk version) that had FIFTEEN verbs, many of which you didn't have to use at all to beat the game.
Definitely getting this game for my Vita. I never got far into this game, but I really liked what I did experience with it.
This game...so good. Thanks for this vid.
Gotta Get This Game
Truly a prince among men, a princess amongst women, this wonderful lucasarts sequel.
Nick Jameson, the voice of Doctor Fred, appeared in a few other LucasArts games. Notably (at least to me) Emperor Palpatine in TIE Fighter, Kyle Katarn in Dark Forces, and Dr. Hanz Ubermann in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (which probably should have been adapted to a movie because it's freaking awesome).
Trivia aside, I think the most important question about the remaster is if you can still play Maniac Mansion in Weird Ed's room. So, can you still play the original Maniac Mansion?
Yep
I don't mind the verbs, but the action wheel is more intuitive. Really glad to see it available again, and remastered to boot. Just waiting for the download links to become active on GOG!
I beat this back in the day. It's a fun game, and some of the puzzles are cool. My friend and I beat it tandem... meaning we both played individually and compared notes at school.
So much nostalgia for this game, I played it so much as a kid so if you end up making a series of it then it'll either be an enjoyable watch or immensely infuriating since I can still remember how to solve most of the puzzles
Wow; love this. I was a huge fan of Maniac Mansion when I was a small child but I've never played Day of The Tentacle. Now I know that I MUST play it!!
Wow, that animation looks great.
Amazing game i finished it recently on steam i recomemded to anyone who loves adventure games.
Would you consider doing a full LP of this? It looks like it could be really fun and you could talk about the differences.
This is one of the best adventure/mystery games I ever played, along with the first 3 Monkey Island games. Already played the remastered version of all Monkey Island games, I'm gonna try this one but later, since I finished the original game again not more than 4 months ago.
So did you do an LP of this? I'd love to see it
i just discovered that there was a fan made sequel " Return of the Tentacle - Prologue " !!!!
Love Laverne´s voice!
Ben Franklin just found out that lightning was made out of electricity, electricity was already discovered. great vid.,
+DragonCatZ Technically, lightning is plasma, which holds an electrical charge.
yep
Well, no other game that I'm aware of before Full Throttle had the icons appearing over the object, but Sam & Max Hit the Road had a greatly simplified interface over DOTT, with only a few icons for interacting, looking, talking, etc, and it could be argued that most VGA Sierra games did the same, though theirs were always positioned at the top of the screen.
This game is awesome :).
Seen this so many times but never got to play this game.
Looks exactly how I remember this game from my childhood. I guess memories renders everything in HD…;-).
Less than two minutes in and we're getting food puns? 's gonna be a good video.
It’s an awesome game!
The commentary is interesting, worth trying the game with it on
Oh shit, Roses already covered my suggested title! Busy lady!
The. Best.
Day of the Tentacle was my Jam in my youth.
I ADORE DotT!!! I grew up on this game. Never played until I was an adult as my brother would hog the game, but it is still a huge part of my childhood.
He's a mad scientist! Of course he'll never stop rubbing his hands!
Seriously though, this was a *most* wonderful look. Really looking forward to giving it a go again… I do hope Maniac Mansion's still hidden away in this too :D
Really like where they went with the new graphics and handling of the UI. Even if well… I never had a problem with the verbs ;)
I actually acquired a physical disc with the manual for this game for only 2 bucks :D
Apparently, the reason he keeps rubbing his hands is "coffee jitters".
I really hope they release this on OSX.
I completed this once but was such a long time ago!!! Really looking forward to playing it again.
It's on steam hopefully it works for you and it has great controller functionality if you are willing to try it that way
I played through the Grim Fandango remake on the vita, the touch controls were perfect, will do the same with DOTT.
As we all have trouble pronouncing "tentacle", you might enjoy this Fun Fact: "Denticles" are the microscopic "teeth" found on the skin of sharks. Because the tip is bent to one side and makes a hook shape, you might not feel them if you pet a shark from head to tail; pet the other way however, and you may regret it! Because of this, sharks skin was used in some cultures as sandpaper.
Never minded the verbs myself. In fact, I often feel like streamlining everything into a single "interact" verb made things too simple. I suppose it's the same way people a little older than myself felt about going from text parsers to a menu of verbs in the first place. It's ultimately the illusion of freedom, since you can only do things the developers put in to begin with, but still.
Also, admittedly, I always preferred the .ore realistic style of early Lucasarts, like Monkey Island 1 & 2, Maniac Mansion (giant heads not withstanding), and Zak McKracken. The more down-to-earth art style always made the absurd and silly stuff all the more absurd and silly.
True on both points
Getting this to run on my old IBM Aptiva 486 with the sound on was as enjoyable as playing this the first time round.
Aww Day of the Tentacle =D discovered it with the remaster and loved it and Maniac Mansion and... Wait... Is that skull on the main menu wearing a Fez? Hector?
We absolutely needed Maniac Manshion Remastered now. :)
I never played this when it first came out because back in the day i was under the impression that it was simply an educational game -- I suspect that impression was due to the game's presence in my Junior High computer lab. I am one of those folks for whom this reissue is Heaven-sent! :D
I adored this game as a teen and it looks fantastic in the remaster. Too bad it took me 3 years to find this video. :/ Great stuff though!
4:3 makes sense for Grim Fandango, with it's noir leanings.
This game available in iOS. I bot it instantly when I saw it. Finished it as I didn't managed to complete it last time. Love it
Virtual machines are a colossal pain in the ass, but wildly satisfying when you get them to run. For the layman, however, I do love these rereleases.
Why use a Virtual Machine? SCUMMVM can be quickly installed and used to run DOTT in a matter of minutes without any fuss.
Omg they re-release day of the tentacle. I now what I'm doing for the next week
we get it your savvy
i did anouther play threw last year wish i didnt ill have to wait a few years to play it again
if I recall correctly you can use a certain computer in the game to play Maniac Mansion
Never played this but I LOVED Maniac Mansion on the NES (partly since I enjoyed the TV show). I heard MM Easter Egg was still in the Re-Mastered on PC. I'm hoping that remains the case for the version coming to PS4.
PSA for fans of these games. In case you dont know (I know this video is 4 years old but it's for anyone after) grim fandango, full throttle, and tentacle remastered versions are all on xbox game pass.
My favorite game in all of creation. XD
