I've been trying to decide between this and the Sigma, but obviously if money wasn't an issue, I'd already have the GM2 because of the size! Great vid!!
got it yesterday. I made a test it is really great. I'm using it with my sony a6000 a 11 year old body and I'm planning to upgrade soon. All I can say is stable and sharp. I can took a photo in 1/30 shutter speed, hanheld portrait
Yes you can! It would still be a great pairing, just keep in mind your effective focal length would be 36-105. Though, depending on how wide of a lens you like for landscapes it might not be wide enough and keep in mind that the camera will definitely be front heavy. But if that’s ok with you, it’ll result in some really sharp images!
@@DavidZhou thank you! Unfortunately I stupidly left my beloved camera outside and it rained here… idk why I did that I have never ever left my camera anywhere! Anyway.. it’s toast. I cried. Maybe I’ll get a full frame in a few years and pair it with this lens
yea be careful this was a mistake I made early on thinking since its built so well and so expensive that this was going to be " the best ". It is still a very nice lens, but there are so many more options that are so budget friendly. I know thats so repetitive on here but it's so true. hope you find something you enjoy
Most recent Sony mirrorless cameras from the past several years has in-camera focus breathing compensation, so if you use a Sony lens and have it turned on, it will correct the distortion and your footage will have minimal to no breathing. Focus breathing is still a thing for third-party lenses (unless the lenses themselves just don’t have any breathing in the first place). Hope that helps!
Suprising you got a 24-70 with an a7cii - isnt it too big?? I would think that a 20-70 paired with a 1.4 prime makes more sense. But let me know, trying to make a decision myself.
The GM2 version is a little bit lighter weight and smaller, making the pairing a pretty solid combination! I own the GM1 and it definitely feels a bit front heavy but because I shoot a lot of events, The 24-70 focal range and f/2.8 aperture is needed to be flexible for most of the day-if we get into lowlight/evening shots, then I would switch over to my 24/1.4 GM or 50/1.4 GM!
@@DavidZhou I'd say it makes sense for events - f2.8 would be useful then. For travel though? Surely an f4 zoom would be more than enough with a prime. 20mm on the wide end is great for landscape/vlogging/interiors too...
GM II is well worth the price difference…..even though I have seen GM 1’s on facebook marketplace for like $900-$1K some good deals on the used market. I have been eyeing a used GM II for $1,800. I wish lol 😂
Yeah, I owned that focal length on a C100ii. Functional and useful for sure, but not exciting. I'll never buy one with my own money as I'd rather have a good 18/35/85mm for the same money and less weight. If I did more run & gun type shooting, I'd probably consider it, but I manage just fine with a good 35mm in even those situations.
I own a Sigma 35mm F/1.2. I absolutely love it. But nothing beats the autofocus time than a native lens. Working in corporate event photography, autofocus speed is the priority. The faster the autofocus the better opportunity I have to get those shots.
YES OR NO POLL! Do you own a 24-70?
no, i own the tamron 28-75mm which also 2.8, and waaay cheaper than this. and image quality is near identical
I do own one ☝️ the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 DG DN Art for my ZV-E1
And I also own the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 for my ZV-E10
Tamron makes some great lenses, the price point really makes them unmatched if you’re trying to keep the budget down!
Yes, it is absolutely the finest middle trinity lens for the Sony platform.
I own one, because Sony camera will downgrade third party lenses
I got it together with my first full frame camera. The only lens i have right now. Never regret. But wish to get 70-200mm gm ii in future.
A deadly combo 🔪

Tough choice, but budget will always be the deciding factor haha, but the GM II is definitely worth the money-and thanks!!
this made my mind up I have saved 2 dollars towards this Lense almost there keep ya posted!

Such a solid lens. One of the easiest to recommend!
This is very useful, thanks David!
Glad to hear!
24-70 f2 is coming for Sony Woo Hooooo and f2 will make 24-70 more exciting I think ❤
I think if they do come out with the 24-70 f2, it might become my “everything” lens honestly 👀
It would be SUCH an exciting launch 👀
@@DavidZhouMe either . It will definitely come ❤❤❤
@@akkarparkiamopas3401 when?
nothing came, haha
I chose the sigma 24-70 2.8 🎉
Solid lens! Sigma lenses are fantastic!
especially the DG DN II
Can I use this on a6700 - I mostly do landscape and product photography - and I’d love one of these but my sensor is crop

You said new cameras handle distortion with new software. So: Is focus breathing still a thing? I really hate that when racking focus.

Is it the same money and weight for all those 3 lenses vs the one 24-70? Oo surely not?
Everyone gotta have a 24-70! My go to lens when i have ZERO clue of the environment i will be shooting in!
The best general use lens hands down
Can one go with sigma or tamron?
Absolutely! Both great options, I presume sigmas going to be sharper but the Tamron will be more affordable!
For most (including myself), the 24-70 will be the only lens they need. The GM ii is worth the extra expense.
I agree!
nice video editing
Thank you 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Very informative. New sub here
Thank you!
Sigma owner here. You really don’t need any other lens.

Make sure if you buy this lens that you also order an aperture motor for it. It will fail on you
