I drive my Atom on the road more than track. It’s a fantastic experience. For sure, long journeys can be a bit painful, but there’s nothing better for a blast around A and B roads. I went from Sussex to LeMans!
me too. but never for more than an hour without stopping for a coffee. I did drive it from Ariel in Somerset to Leeds when i collected it. Mostly motoways. Unpleasent experience.

I would have an absolute blast on the highways through traffic on something like that . . .
It does make me laugh when they point out the plainly obvious, you can tell from the look of the Atom before you drive it that it is stripped out experience, I do feel that sometimes they want the earth a formula 1 car on the track but it be a Jaguar on the road, come on. Want some more comfort get a cushion problem solved.
I drive my AA4 around a 2.5 hour circular route through the Highlands early on Sunday mornings when the weather permits and if I'm honest the first third I'm a bit scared / wary, the second third I'm loving it and by the final third the only things that stop me from going straight on to doing a second loop are family commitments and increasing traffic. Whereas I can empathise with Jason that it takes some getting used to driving in traffic, as you do feel ludicrously exposed at first, the idea that it becomes a chore within an hour sounds more like he was trying to find a journalistic angle to his story than anything else. A trip in an Atom is always exciting and exhilarating and the seats are a fair bit comfier than they look.
The Atom 4 is amazing, and for the first time, the Atom 4 you get in the US is the same as the UK. I am looking forward to getting my fat ass in one!

Me too the Ariel 500 is insane and now the e atom ballistic.
I like how Ariel still keeps using the Honda engine and did no modification to it. I'm sure you can bring the Atom to any Honda service dealer and have the engine fixed.

Any open car would have the same issues - bit of an odd test esp when if you wanted to do that you'd soften off the setup or fit the diff seat options or the pads that many drivers do.
I first thought when they said 'atom 4' that it was awd... THAT would be truly insane.

It needs the Skunkwurx Aerial Atom Aero Kit as standard equipment... the glass windscreen and side panelling wouldn't hurt either

It really doesn't need the windscreen. it is ok even at 100mph. I cancelled the windscreen after i had driven with just the aeroscreen. looks better too. In winter i wear a helmet to keep warm anyway. summer, no problem.
Yeah but if it's designed properly, the windscreen and side panels would make the aero work more efficiently. I would've hope with the amount of money the wings cost, they would have designed the top of the windscreen to feed fast moving air to the spoiler
@@LawrenceAbramoff i see what you sre getting at. Personally i am 'less is more' bug if you are racing then sure. I will only be doing track days.
I got the side panels as it's not fun turning a corner in the wet in Scotland and the front tyre chucking water directly on to your feet. I'm pretty sure that the windscreen would detract a whole lot from the experience.
I don’t drive but I’d love to have a Formula 1 driver take me for a ride in one, to the limit. The car is a work of genius and any driver would enjoy the real skill and fun from the Atom. Ok not the best car ever but it’s certainly got some magic to offer.

It's a Honda K-series, very different from the Rover K-series, it's also unrelated to the Toyota K-series engine.

Boot is OK, can tow a decent caravan but the fact that you can't fit a roof box was a deal killer for me.
@@JC130676 I bought mine to plow fields and it was absolute rubbish, i want my money back but keep the car.
If you went for the twin boiled eggs option instead of the crisps, you could fit a tescos meal deal in the frunk.
How the hell does a turbo flutter get annoying?
Since you can't drive this car with full throttle in traffic, you have to let go of the throttle very often. Every single time you do this, you'll hear that noise. Keep in mind, with a video on UA-cam, you can adjust the volume, but in real-life, it's really loud and grating. Fine if your adrenalin is pumping on the track, but certainly not if you are trying not to get crushed by lorries and SUVs.
Ali A I was wondering the same. Loved hearing it on my daily turbocharged car, more than listening to the stereo.

Fair enough. It's not that loud with a helmet on. However, the first time I drove mine, it was 2 hours without a helmet and my ears were still ringing the next day and I that was under the speed limit the whole way. It's very loud :)

I noticed that, and all the creeping around slowly, there was three quick cut shots in a row where he was crossing a white line he shouldn`t on all three, almost applauded him on the fourth cut where he actually stayed inside the line, car must be too big for him to manage driving straight or fast. Typical narrative filling Top Gear like crap, i bet its brilliant to road drive.
@@antonytye3484 He's right about one thing, it is bloody intimidating driving it on the motorway. I was behind a tractor on a B road the other day and could see under it to the road ahead. Everything feels bloody massive compared to you. You are always wondering if you can be seen by other road users and at night your eye level is at the same height as every other vehicle's headlights. It's never dull no matter what speed you're going at. :)

The older atom especially the turbocharged are faster.

How do you know the older ones are faster when the 4 just came out? What older turbo model is faster than the 4 with the 350 hp tune/option ? What's the top speed on the old turbo you speak of ? What's the top speed of the 4 ?
TMI in the USA builds the Atom 3RS, built motor with turbo, 465hp. It will pull wheelies on the street

Atom isn't that good
Well that lacks definition ?, its not a good daily driver, its not good at top speed records and lack's any comfort but to say it isn't good shows your missing the point of what it does so well.
How much is the Atom 4?
In reality a basic spec atom with uprated brakes/LSD and the other things that are must haves comes to a touch under 50k (list shows 40k). Absolute bargain in my opinion. Especially when you look at the residual values.
