My dad gave me his 357xp a few years ago that had a burnt piston. I bought an OEM top end, just put it together about a month ago. This is the first saw I've rebuilt. I watched Tinman and Ironhorse videos for guidance. I cleaned up the piston a little to lose a few grams of weight, and put it back together. For a mid-range size saw even with a 24" bar it surprised me. I have a 395xp I use for falling and bucking large wood but my traps and shoulders appreciate the weight of the 357 after a few hours of cutting!

I bought a 357XP new in 2004. Here in western VA it was a popular pulp wood saw. It's the best saw I own. Mine really screams. I run a 20 inch bar. Crazy that it's almost 20 years old. I'm more careful now not to put too many hours on it. Great video! Thanks for the good work!

I've bucked up about 150 cords of boiler wood with my 357XP. Been a really good saw. I put a Jeremy Bell (Bellhopper) muffler on mine.

Nice saw. The 3 series were a great run of saws.
Blue spruce can be surprisingly hard, similar to ash and oak when they all have the same moisture content. Pine is considerably softer, poplar is softer still.

    Good video.
I've run a 357XPG as my main saw for probably 15 years now. For me it's superb, totally second nature to use and opens up even more than the one in this video I reckon. Hard to tell when I'm used to hearing it through the ear defenders.
Used to use a 20" bar, now I use a 16", 3/8. It suits the intricate work I mostly do and can still scream flat out through oak or elm if needed.
Haven't used the 20" bar for years, when I do need more bar I have a 390XP with 30" for bigger fells or bucking.

Well that's ok. Nice saw. My dad has a 359 and I like cutting with it. More umph than my 55's but still nice and light for falling and limbing normal size trees. Would be nice to see you go at that 357 or a 55 to see where it could end up. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

My dads saw lineup is the husky 66 and the 357xp his 357 is his favorite though. Thing is insanely quick and high rpm screamer. First time I ran it I was used to my older vintage saws like my homelite super xl or 08s stihl and lets just say It made me add a few newer saws to my collection 371xp 372xp 395xp jonsered 2250 but I still love my old vintage collection

I love the 60cc class saws! But I will say some of them do certain things better than others. I'm a jonsered guy and I have 2-2156's 2-2159's 2-2258's and a 2260. The 2260 is a do it all saw....it just punches way above its weight and cuts like a bigger saw. But it likes rpm. The 2159 and 2258 are the ultimate firewood saws. Light enough and powerful enough for the size firewood I cut here in NH. They're good on fuel and just plain easy to run all day. Lots of torque for 60cc. The 2156 is a different animal. It can do most any job, but where it's most at home for me and where it's my go to saw is limbing the big northeastern white pine we have here. It's light and flickable. It pulls a 24" bar just fine and is up in the rpm quickly which is what I like for a limbing saw. It sees more 4"-8" pine and brush than any other saw I've ever owned. I have a good friend that's a climber/topper and the 357xp is all he uses for the same reasons. Far more power than a 50cc saw and pretty close in weight. Also makes a great truck saw because it can do just about anything the average guy needs to do with a saw around here but for that job the 2159 or 2258 usually gets the nod.

Yes they where sold with the .325 as standard setup from the factory but Husqvarna offered two options at the dealer level if a customer wanted, because they had two different clutch drum's for them in both .325 and 3/8'' rim drive and I have both OEM drum's for my saw's.

I got rid of the crank stuffers in my 357xp. It'll still scream limbing and it's power curve is much broader. A lot better in big hardwood. I run a 20" bar 3/8 chain and cut mostly hard maple and ash. I really wish husky would of made them a true 60cc.

    O Machado e a Motosserra
Entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
A motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
E naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
E esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
Na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
Motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
Machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
Motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
