GSX-R 2017 Panel removal for oil change

- I had to change the oil in my 2017 GSX-R 750 (600's should be the same). I had to remove the left-side fairing/panel to do so and I wanted to find a video to show me how. However, all the videos I looked at either skipped the step completely or glossed over the process, not showing the details of how to do so.
In this video I focus on how to remove the panel; the rest of the oil change procedure is a secondary concern.
Two points to make below:
1) yes, you can change the oil without removing the panel completely but it's much easier to access the filter with the panel removed and it won't drain oil inside the fairing which will then blow out and look like ass.
2) you may break a small push-pin rivet on the "inside cowling" nearest the forks. I did. It's easily replaced. The part number is: 09409-06314. I found a 20 pack on Amazon for $6.40 with free Prime shipping.

The pin in the back that you start talking about at 6:00 appears to be the ones that you actually push the center IN on. The exact opposite of the rest. They're also used in the tail section.

Man one push button pin I couldn’t get off no matter how hard I pushed it in. Any advice?
Yes, georgeyoung513 is correct. Take a small phillips head screwdriver and press in on the center of the fastener and there's a pin that will push in and click into the indented position. Then grab the fastener and wiggle it and pull and the entire fastener will come out in a single piece.
I have the L6 GSXR750 and had the same experience with my first service at Suzuki in Australia. They scratch up your fairings, don't let the oil drain for very long before filling with new oil. Use bulk oil and put too much in. Never again. Learn to do your services yourself and know that it's done properly. The fairing removal is quite daunting the first time as you think that you will break something. but after that it's a 5 minute job. Use aluminium foil around your headers when dropping the old oil and direct it into the container. No mess.
Hey mate. Please tell me it wasn't a PS dealership - I'm in Adelaide, got a new gsxr 1000 via WA and have looked around at the dealers available. None inspire confidence (I.e. at one I asked about the run in period as the manual suggest limits for 1st 800km and 2nd 800km. The lad dismissed this derisively and said (I quote) "Nah just thrash the crap out of it mate, its meant to be thrashed". However for warranty I think I do need to have a dealership stamp the book. Considering the variance between the care I take and the history of services on my other bikes, I'd much rather do it myself. . .

Thanks for the video u just save me lot of time that I don’t have to look on UA-cam for videos on how to remove the fairings and one more thing that sucks that the dealer did that to you but your Frist year of owning a bike you should always take to a dealership because it’s mush easer to get any warranty repairs if they mess it up even with the difference oil they put in when you do the work your self you void the warranty and if they see the k&n oil filter that’s all they need to see to say it’s void.

The zx6r may have a weird spot for it’s oil filter. But at least you do not have to remove any fairings for it’s oil change.
That would have been nice. I don't mind the removal of panels...I mind that there are parts and bits to break as you figure out how the *#%$# to get them off.
Hi I broke the same pin did the ones from amazon suit the hole and are they holding ok?
Yes, they are holding fine. I have not had any issue with them.
On those two tough plastic pins you just have to push the middle in and they pop right out
I’m putting mine together as we speak, I noticed I don’t have that fairing brace that attaches one side to the other, looked on eBay and nothing, will have to call Suzuki, will it still go together with out it?
I can't say for sure. It's been quite sometime since I looked at mine. I've still only got 1,300 miles on it and haven't changed the oil since I shot this video. It's probably OK but it's not right. If it was mine, I'd put it on there if it was originally there.
Why does your video keep buffering? It only happens with this video, and in the same place everytime.
Its a push pin. Press the center and it comes right off.

Bro, you push them in not out. its pretty simple. lol. you RESET them by pulling the centerpiece out then re install
You should only ever use factory suzuki oil filters. Dont ever ever use k&n.
