- Greetings All ! In this video my best friend Austyn teaches me how to do the ancient art of tablet weaving (also called card weaving) on an Inkle loom. and Davey Eastside (my Keytar playing alter ego) makes an appearance as well !

I'm a retired hospice nurse. While living in Ohio, i had a young Amish patient whose friends worked on a quilt in her room every day On one of my visits they were all there and i told them how beautiful their work is and so perfect. One woman said, "No, we don't do perfect. We put a mistake in to make it imperfect. Only God is perfect"

I love the “do we need graph paper”. The answer is ALWAYS “YES”!
Personally I prefer knitting graph paper. It is rectangles and gives a closer look to what the weaving will look like. Just turn it 1/4 so the rectangles are facing the right direction.
I couldn’t watch the whole thing without scanning through because I have to make dinner, but… The Bad Stanleys? Epic. And my cat came over to hear your keytar solo, which could be a good thing.
I will probably never learn how to do card weaving, but I absolutely love the way your mind comes up with quilt designs that appeal to my nerdiness, so I’ve been binge watching and learning a bit from how you work through design issues to find better solutions. I was sold when I saw the airplane whitework and the Cheez-It quilts, and the deal was sealed with zombroidery and the deer in the cityscape. I’m so glad to see younger generations getting involved in quilting and crafting!

I'd seen some tablet weaving on insta and it looked like mysterious magic. Now it totally looks do-able and awesome.. Trying to remind myself I don't need another craft 😬🖤
Wow, thank you Austin. You were absolutely right. I had dropped in only to give Dave a "thumbs up" so he could earn money. But, because of you very serious and logical plea for us to stay and watch the entire video (and because I now know that Dave checks the analytics to see how many videos actually get watched all the way through) I have stayed and watched this Card Weaving video all the way through, right to the very end. And, boy am I glad I did. I learned a lot, on so many levels. You guys are very amusing, have incredible powers...the capacity to pay attention ...to persevere for a very long time while enjoying the process. No wonder you guys know how to do so many cool, unusual, and varied things. Excellent teaching, great collaboration, and truly fun and amazing creativity. Austin, I really liked the belt as you were unfurling it but did not see the "POOP" letters coming. It was like you knew what I was thinking "he is so talented, but why did he choose the alphabet for his sample design?" Throwing in the unexpected won...I am sure...the wholehearted support for card weaving by everyone watching. The message, "Beginners, it's fun, don't take it all so serious and give it a try. It is fun, useful, and can end up looking like and being anything you decide that it will be." Dave, you continue to amaze me. Not only did you succeed, but you went to work and put you new talent to good use. I am sure your Mom loved receiving the baggage tag you made her. She will be taking a part of you wherever she travels. KUDOS guys!! Exceptionally well done.
I just warped my inkle loom this evening! I still have to figure out how to use card. Planning on weaving some Baltic bands and then monk’s belt for a crocheted bag. Hugs from Provence ❤

I had an inkle loom when I was a kid. But I didn't use the cards so must have been a much simpler pattern. You got pretty good at this at the end. Thanks for sharing.
What a serendipitous video. I had just purchased some cards and an instruction booklet on my travels to Norway! Came back to the hotel and there was your video! I loved the banter between you and Austin. I love all of your videos from start to finish!
When you turned the cards for the first time, my mind changed gears! This was really great fun to watch! For me, it was like having my kids back home and hearing them laughing and doing stuff together. Karen Nyberg's fabric introduced you and Dave's Craft Room to me, and I am really enjoying watching your quilt making. Appliqueing the airplanes onto the blocks really helped me to try to allow myself to be freer in creating more of the look and feel I want to add to my quilts. I've seen people use rubber bands as stoppers on the end of inkle loom pegs, but I like the bottle cap idea!

Someone gave me some cards and instructions about 45 years ago but I never tried using them. I didn’t think tablet weaving required a loom. Interesting.
People do it without the loom too, you can fasten the strings to something sturdy and do it that way; we just decided to use the looms :P
Probably won’t do this but was fun to watch the process and the banter between friends. 😂

I decided to card weave a few years ago. Using 48 playing cards, I began weaving a guitar strap.... With the saying from The One Ring from Lord of the Rings. Easy peasy right? Hahahaha.

Interesting video. Thank you for showing us this. I am curious how long it takes you to make a strap, or the tag? Like about how many hours?
the tag only a couple hours... longer if I include all the mistakes 😂 the keytar strap took a few more hours and then the big one with words took I think a few sessions of a couple hours each over a few days

If I were young and British I’d hate all this inches stuff. Luckily I’m old enough to remember inches from my youth and I quilt. The rest of the world does cms America. 😅
I dunno, I'm young(ish!) and British. cms would be so weird for quilting or weaving!!
using inches is intuitive to me since I learned it in childhood, I never knew it had anything to do with being British 😅 although I was shocked to discover that British terms for music notes are different, instead of quarter note and an eighth note they call it a crotchet and a quaver 😂😂
