Crazy how she is like the opposite of a movie star in real life. I have never heard a young star talk like a regular person so naturally. She really does embody her character in SoHo. I hope she stay true because she has a ton of talent and her career has just started.
She was mesmerizing in Last Night in Soho. What a work of art.
As an Australian, I now officially claim her as our own. As we do with every other internationally successful Kiwi.
I am an Aussie too and just said to my Wellington-born husband that all the best people come from Wellington :-). Just back from Last Night in Soho, loved it so much. I miss London!

Stephen looked genuinely charmed and moved when he asked her what she misses the most when she's in the US and she said her family. Impeccable answer and she's an Impeccable talent. 👏
Her grandmother is one of New Zealand's most well-known actresses as is her mother. Her father writes, directs, and acts in theatre, so she's hopefully grounded enough to not lose her head.
I also noticed how, when she said she got overwhelmed easily, and the audience kind of laughed (as she was), he didn’t laugh or try to make a joke of it, he realised she was talking about social anxiety/agoraphobia (literally), and took it seriously. Class act.

Tall poppy syndrome, for those wondering, is an expression taken to mean, "Don't try to be 'that' person, who always has to stand taller than everyone else. The tallest poppies are the ones that get cut down." In the Southern U.S. we have a similar saying, "The nail that sticks its head out , is the one most likely to get hammered down. "
Nonsense, she doesn't know what it means and you don't know what it means :/ what it actually means is don't stand out or you will be cut down, usually by envious types who just can't abide other people's success or achievements so try to cut them down to size out of spite and jealousy by unwarranted criticism.

Listening to Thomasin as an Australian, was very interesting. I feel we in Australia have taken on American culture far more both than NZ, the good and the very bad. In fact the NZ Prime Minister and her policies have kept our PM Morrison honest because as I said, we have taken on the bad more of America. In this case he worships Trump. If you go to our Gold Coast, its a pale imitation of Florida. Yet we still have the tall poppy habit of not tolerating bullshit, like NZ. That is why we call our PM Scott Morrison, "Scotty from marketing"

I did my first year at varsity with Thomasin's mother, Miranda. I have also met Kate, the matriarch and have nothing but good things to say about the Harcourt-McKenzie clan. They are
acting aristocracy, without being a bunch of pretentious arseholes. Just good people that love and embrace their craft. Kia Kaha, Thomasin.
Well, her Grandad created Harcourts, which is the ONLY snooty real estate company I've ever come across in NZ and Miranda has always come across as being quite cold and snobby, to be honest. But really they're no different to your average private school educated NZers, on that front.

Yes, she sounded more British, almost Scottish at points. The only thing that gave her away is how she pronounced her vowels. I also picked up a certain subtle arrogance behind the sweet tones but then again, being an Australian, we are more obviously arrogant. Would you agree?
As someone from the US, my biggest point of reference for identifying a New Zealand accent is that all of the vowels sound like they have a soft short "i" sound behind them. She definitely has that : )
Basically spot on? Ever heard of NZ Chesdale Cheese? The hats are farmland - Barry Crump would wear one, Billy T too. Australians wear corks hanging down with bigger brim for the sun.

Imagine if the world were more like New Zealand, down to earth, easy going, and not tolerating assholes.
The biggest problems, are almost always cultural.
She refers to tall poppy syndrome, which is a double-edge sword. We don't tolerate assholes but the public can be a bit envious of those who are successful, meaning that we cut down the tall poppies. Israel Adesanya mentions it frequently as being a fault in NZ.
