  • I am a cardiovascular perfusionist who has found this career path to be very rewarding, yet challenging. I wanted to tel my story for those that may be in the same position as I once was. I made this page to help those in a healthcare setting that may be looking for a change in career. Or maybe a premed major who needs some guidance and my be interested in becoming a perfusionist.

    Omg, I'm glad I found your UA-cam Channel; I am an undergraduate, precisely A junior. I'm In A Pre-PA Program, but my advisor told me it is tough to get into PA school. SO RECENTLY, I WAS watching a Tiktok Video where the lady said she's a perfusionist, then I realized that something I'm very interested in. So plan After I graduate, I plan to work as a researcher while getting my master's in perfusion.

      Hi! Awesome! PA school is very competitive but to be honest, so is perfusion school. You are fighting for less seats. Perfusion schools only take 10-25 students on average per class. There is one school that takes more. So my advice is to just go for which ever career path you are more passionate about.

      it may help to retake them. if you can find a good community college, or 4 year accredited college near you, do the classes under a degree program, because doing them as a non-degree student costs more at some colleges. once youre done with those classes just reapply, also be sure to research the school a bit on niche and other places and ratemyprofessor for the professors of the classes, and be sure to have the time carved out to study!! so you can do well in the courses.

    • @perfusionlifestyle
      @perfusionlifestyle  Рік тому +1

      I agree with Kerry! I would retake your science prerequisites for sure. The good news is now that you are a respiratory therapist, you will be a competitive candidate. Get your gpa up and you will be good.

      @@perfusionlifestyle I understand what both of you are mentioning. I recently got denied last month for the fourth time, second time from the same school. Right now I will apply to two more schools.
      When it comes to retaking classes, I did retake one last year and improved my grade to an A- but still got denied. Retaking classes are easier said than done. Me currently as a RT am making the same or more than a perfusionist ever since Covid. My interest in perfusion is working in the OR and having a better work/life balance compared to an RT. In my opinion, I think it’s only worth retaking all of my classes if I’m motivated to go to medical school.
      As I mentioned, I will apply to several more schools with my current academic record and clinical experience. Probably get into ecmo. Also I do have second thoughts and may go for an MBA, public health or epidemiology etc.

    • @perfusionlifestyle
      @perfusionlifestyle  Рік тому +1

      If retaking that one class didn’t improve your overall science gpa, then that won’t increase your chances of getting in. I think you should do a little more research to see if you really want to get into perfusion. I don’t know what your schedule is like as an RT, but I don’t think you will have a better work/life balance as a perfusionist.

      Nice!! The work life balance really depends on the hospital you are at. If you work at a busy hospital you won’t have much of a work life balance. The main thing that sucks is the inconsistency. You never really know when you are getting off work. I now work at a hospital that does a fair amount of surgeries and I have a great work life balance. I would definitely shawdow a perfusionist in the OR and have a good GPA. 2. Do perfusionist receive ECMO training during the perfusion program

      2.)We do learn about ECMO in perfusion school
      3.) we do not operate the octopus or ventilators
      4.) we are needed at some hospitals for organ transplants (liver, lung, & heart)
      5.) there are a number of other duties we perform that is too much to list here.
