I picked up a used Canon SX70 a few weeks ago. It's amazing what 60x optical zoom can do. I do use a phone (Pixel 6) for Facebook and Instagram stuff, but always add in a few camera shots when I'm back home.
That was fun indeed. Loved the sneaky shot of Chris as well. And that points me to the idea that such a camera is great for street photography because of that zoom range. You can take photos without people ever knowing you were there (and thus acting as normal as they do). A lower picture quality is not an issue in street photography at all.
I just received an old Nikon Coolpix P7100 in a trade, it is slow and needs lots of light but gives surprisingly good images, and best of all is fun. It is amazing. How many buttons and dials Nikon managed to put in this camera.
Someone noticed that I liked to take pictures of the moon and they offered the exact cámara you show on this video. I’m glad I watched it because I love to take black and white shots so I’m happy to get it tomorrow:)
Great video David! Always try to explain to people. You take snapshots with a phone, you take photographs with a camera. 😊 It's great to see Hull again in your video’s after being in Australia for almost 40 years.
It's the limitations that make these older cameras so much fun. I use my digicams for snapshot days out, my better cameras for more deliberate photography.
I have seen tons of very good photos taken with this camera. How is it “kind of bad”? I mean, it’s not an expensive camera. It’s a bang for your buck camera. The CMOS sensor is quite good and about as good as I’ve seen for the price, paired with pretty decent features, it’s a great option for an amateur that just wants to take clean photos and play around with editing.
It’s kinda bad because without that zoom, your phone is better and phones compared to actual cameras are garbage. It’s a fun camera for sure but the image quality is pants. For any beginner wanting to learn they’d be much better off buying an ancient dslr and kit lens as the image quality would be significantly better and when it comes to editing, they’d have the option to shoot in RAW unlike with this camera.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Fair enough. But for the price and features? You’ll invest far more time and money into an ancient DSLR. I guess it all depends on how much experience and effort someone can put into it.
@Gubers canon 400d regularly runs at about £30 and they practically give away those kit lenses. I just bought a Sony Nex 3 for £31 so there are far better options out there for not a lot of money, but to each their own.
Smashed it againg mate and that zoom is mental but overall the pics came out great from what you can expect. Plus I have better dance moves then Chris haha.
If you have good light and aren’t expecting full frame performance it’s a great everyday camera and it has pretty decent 1080p video and stabilisation.
@1Turk_____________Turk It’s more difficult with a smaller sensor but background blur can be done if the distances between the camera, the subject and the background are right. A closer subject will generally cause the background to blur more. It’s much easier with a fast lens and bigger sensor but you can get background blur with this👍
I have a Sony hx400v bridge camera . Looking for something more pocketable for street photography . Would you recommend lumix lx2 for portability and better images?
I have the LX1 and LX3 and the lx3 is fantastic. I’m not sure how the lx2 compares but I suspect the images will be similar. Definitely a pocketable option🖖
@IgrwOw Does that actually matter? If your image looks right, surely that’s what actually matters. It’s not my camera so I can’t check, but doesn’t it indicate the focal length on screen if you really need that information?
Share your thoughts on bad, old cameras. Much more fun, challenging and creative than a phone. Just received a Samsung S850, and it's obviously dated and unremarkable, but it has magic powers that my iPhone 15 lacks: flaws and shortcomings, and it makes you think and connect. Even when the phones are on Sony A7R5 level, they won't replace my camera.
It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want a cheap super zoom camera then it’s not a bad option, but if you’re getting into photography with the intention of wanting to learn how to effectively use a camera, then I’d recommend an old apsc canon dslr and something like an 18-135 zoom and with that you’ll get a real camera feel with full manual and auto controls and a good all rounder lens. Another option would be an older mirrorless system like micro 4/3 or Sony apsc that has a massive range of pretty affordable lenses and all the same camera functionality to learn with. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficialthank you so much for fast response,i think i want to learn how to use camera and take good photos, and i have choice to buy canon 450d or 1100d with kit lenses, so should i buy one of them instead and if you can answer which one better? I think 1100d is better, but still not sure
It very much depends on the camera and the situation. With most of these point and shoot style cameras I normally shoot in either P or one of the auto modes like aperture priority 🖖
It could be a number of things causing it. If you’re shooting in auto in low light the camera may be sacrificing shutter speed to expose correctly or maybe you tend to shoot at the longer end of the zoom which is tricky to handle hold even in good light. I’d recommend checking to make sure your shutter speed is always high enough to hand hold and if you can, use a tripod if the light demands lower shutter speeds🖖
The reason I no longer include settings is because they change from image to image and camera to camera so they are ultimately useless to you. With cameras like this though I tend to let the camera do much of the work and shoot in P mode with iso as low as it goes and exposure compensation set to -1/3 stop. Thanks for watching 🖖

Absolutely! Even when I’m shooting with my main gear there’s always a compact of some sort in the bag. They’re just fun🖖😁
you killed me with that moon shot 😅😅😅😅😅😅😊😊😊
The Decisive Moment - the pigeon entering its squat - excellent.
Haha, yeah. What you didn’t hear in the video was what I called it for moving before I had a chance for a second shot😂
@@DavidFlowerOfficial What i did hear was the excited call of 'Sweeper!' - almost made me dive out of bed and into my foxhole, Sarge.

Good relax video, good photos👍

Love your Moon shot 👍
Thank you. You’re obviously going to get better details with higher quality gear, but the image quality is not terrible. Thanks for watching 🖖
olympus next please!! wonderful video
Pen mini maybe?😁
Nice one Dave 👍 good to see the guildhall works are finished, just the rest of the city to finish now 😂

The pair of you just jigging it up by the river😂
Can the canon powershot sx510 also be used as a webcam??
I’ve honestly no idea. I don’t do anything live so it’s not a function I ever look for and if I did, I’d probably just use my phone
I bought this today but I don't know how well I did it. Do you think the Canon SX510 HS is ideal for everyday photo and video shooting?

how do you get black and white photos? do you edit them or this camera has some built in parameter?
It’s just a bnw conversion in post although most of the cameras I’ve used have a built in bnw mode
@@DavidFlowerOfficial sorry but I'm a begginer. This camera has 24-720 mm focal lenght range. How do I change it? just by zooming?
Yeah just use the zoom switch👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I see. But how do I know what focal length is being used? the zoom button has no parameter, just a free wheel.
