    I found it's common knowledge among more experienced beekprs, you have to coat the foundation with more wax. The bees will build comb "on top" of the foundation as a separate piece of comb instead of building on foundation itself. I found out the hard way... Thanks for the video!

      @Melissa You are 100% correct, I just noticed a month ago how certain kits come with a very light layer of wax. It's their way of cutting cost. If you buy plastic foundation for a quality name like Premier, Rite Cell or Acorn adding a coat of wax is NOT needed. I noticed comb like you described built off the side off foundation with the frames that came in my Hoover kit. I plan to mention this in an upcoming video.

    Awesome looking box set. I have an old tank that was attached to my moms house when it burnt down that I will be using to make a hardware dipper with. I will video for you steps taken, and explain what mixture I will be using in the tank to dip hardware in. I still have to finish the design for the bottom boards with tube entrance that I should have design and video for some time in January. Thanks for the great video Jason and Ladybug likes the glass table to look up at what daddy is doing lol.

      I look forward to seeing you dipping setup. As far as Ladybug, she goes everywhere I go. lol Even in the house she follows me everywhere, can't hardly go to the bathroom by myself. lol

      @@JCsBees I will take some pics tomorrow and post on FB. it is a propane tank that was burned in a fire so can't be used for propane, and will put in water heater element on the bottom side (maybe 2) to heat the wax.

Just please understand as a video creator there are rules to using promotional codes and one of the biggest is not to share them on other people's channel. Especially someone who made a promotion from the same place your sharing code from. When you do that your taking money out of their pocket and in most cases the promotional code is how we are paid for doing the video in the first place.

    I got this kit for a gift and never until I saw your video put it together that they were intended for 5 frame nucs😄. I thought I either didn't get all 10 or it was just a starter set and I eventually ordered extra frames along with another deep from them. I'm happy with it so far. But the jacket is pretty crappy as I see more higher quality suits.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  3 роки тому +1

      Glad I was able to shine a little light on the kit for you. That's funny you thought they shorted you frames. lol I agree, the jacket isn't the best. I believe I mention wearing something under it to make it more sting proof.
      There is surely better jackets on the market but usually when a person buys a kits they are wanting to save a few bucks vs buying everything separately. That said, the jacket would be the fist thing I upgraded and I would recommend a vented 3 layer jacket.

    I almost bought these same hives from Amazon but many reviewers said sometimes the coating was sporadic and they were worried about them holding up over time. I went with unassembled pine with finger grooves. Now I kind of regret it and they are all assembled so no returning now. I wonder if I can heat up some wax and paint my own hives? I really like the look over painted. i am curious if they would require yearly 'touch ups' of rolling or brushing on some new wax. Nice looking kit with a good selection of stuff. Thumbs up.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  3 роки тому +1

      @Tripplett I would give it a try and see it the wax sticks. Before painting them though I would wait for warmer weather though. Then place the bare wood boxes in direct sun for awhile first. The heat will open the pores on the wood allowing more wax to enter. Either that or bring them inside beside heater first. Best of luck!

    HI!I got my first bee hive,except the wood frame with the comb,but my question is do I have to put bees wax every time after harvest the honey?Thanks, please help.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  2 роки тому +1

      Congrats on your 1st hive! Applying more wax to the frames foundation will encourage the bees to draw out comb. When honey is harvested only the caps on the cells of the comb is removed so no you will not have to re-wax. If you see the bees are building funky comb then in most cases there is not enough wax on foundation. Hope this helps and good luck!!

    So their equipment won’t last many, many years to come. Let me explain from my experience. First, the boxes are coated very poorly. After just one year you can see where the tin wax disappeared and boxes weathered out and don’t look very pretty anymore. If you don’t re-coat them, they will start rotting process. Two, as all beekeepers know bees wax attracts wax moths. This coating isn’t any different. Several boxes I own have small diameter holes appeared on them in different places. As we all know, wax moth larvae drills these exactly holes into your frames causing damage to frames when they get inside. So I guess if they can’t get in, they will drill in your boxes until they can. Anyway Hoover hives are pretty good hives, but they need to start selling both coated and raw hives. I rather dip them or echo treat them. After my experience I decided I won’t be buying their coated hives no more. The ones I have I guess I’ll see how long they will last without being re-coated. If I discover more fresh holes from wax moth larvae, I won’t even wait that long to get rid of them. One last thing. Last winter one of the hives had moisture collecting inside on the lid causing lid to warp where the sides of lid popped lose and created an entrance where European hornet could fit through. So the wax coating on the inside of lid is worthless as well
