I did A level history! found the essay style so difficult at first and the discussion side of the subject - I got an A* in the end but the effort I had to put in was so immense. Far harder than maths and physics
As someone doing GCSE History, you 100% need the facts!! No matter how good your essay is no DEPPS (Specific facts) you loose marks. If you don’t use them you can’t get a 7/8/9.
I'm not going to lie I was lost the whole year, getting a 4 in mocks, constantly overwhelmed by the whole course I revised well on how to answer the questions from this teacher in my school who wasn't mine but was soooo good Then I learnt main overview fact and random dates as I only had a few days until the test Also this guy from old gcse on youtube (podcast) helped me soo much on the Germany paper! You can use them that are awesome! Anyway I somehow got a 9?? Im so shocked but thats how I barely revised throughout the year, didn't know any dates nor did practice questions constantly
This video was really interesting as I'm doing the 9-1 Edexcel history GCSE and from what you described, it seems like a scaled down version of the A-level. Some questions are just about knowledge but most involve sources, interpretations and constructing an argument. There is quite a lot of content but I've made flashcards as I go along and just learned them. I do plan on doing A level history and I think I'd have to do mindmaps for that because there's too much content to rely on flashcards.
The new GCSE sort of includes your own opinion, like the big questions are opinion based, you just sort of have to give both sides of an argument but then come to your own conclusion. You can get high marks with little facts in the writing, but some questions rely on you including your own knowledge to access higher marks. For example, an 8 mark question on one paper would require you to use your own knowledge to get 7/8 marks, but you could still get around 6 marks with a good answer but no extra stuff. I ended up getting a 9 in history (edexcel). 148/168 marks so not to bad.
Glad I'm under the first 48 to watch this video! Being a science student, it's quite interesting to know what A level history's like! Love your channel, Rhiannon xx
@@cloudiii9543 erm, can't really tell('cause my country doesn't have a levels, instead we have 11th and 12th grade and an entrance exam at the end of 12th) for maths because I have biology but would recommend solving physics numericals! ;; xx
“Ello everybody! Welcome back to my channel” 😂👌 These videos are very useful- I love you probably the most out of the study UA-camrs. So down to earth! Love you Rhi x
I did Edexcel 2018 exams. History is undoubtably a hard subject but I found completing your notes well in advance of Easter and then sing that time for essay planning really helped. Also the course has a number of themes- so for each topic do a plan where you write the introduction in full (criteria) and then 3 paragraphs in bullet point structured form and then finally the conclusion. Is time consuming but useful as I found a lot marks are awarded for STRUCTURING an argument- Especially source questions which I found the hardest. Hope it helps anyone!
Ah thank god you made this video I’m going into year 10 and I’m doing history and I’ve been told if so stressful but this video helped thank you for making it xx
Knowneriot I just started a level (year 12) earlier this month. After one week, I switched History for something else😅. (I switched it for psychology). Lol it’s like a huge weight has been lifted of my shoulders😭. I wish you the best of luck for history 🥶⭐️!
Alicia Anderson I couldn’t switch, they kept saying to me you’ll have a lot more to learn for a new subject. Unfortunately I couldn’t change it even though I wanted to so much
I found this super interesting even though I don’t actually do history I really enjoyed watching it and it was really nice to learn about a subject I’ve never really thought about ❤️❤️ also have dm’ed you another photo of Theo hahaha
I didn’t take history in gcse however, I really regretted this and I am dying to take it at a level! Would I still be able to take it? Would I struggle?
I did end up taking it and I’m loving it! It’s so interesting! I will be honest i did feel like I was more behind then the people who took it at GCSE but you’ll be surprised by the amount of people who were in the Same position. You don’t really learn about the same stuff so it’s all taught right from basics. You just have to be willing to put in the effort of actually studying 🤷🏻♀️😂
I'm taking both! It really depends on what you want to study in the future, which you find most interesting and which you're strongest at. History is obviously great preparation for essay-writing and persuasion, while French has a very practical use and unlocks foreign work opportunities
For the new history GCSE it was very source based. All of the exams had sources in and it was all very much judging your own knowledge and opinion compared to the source and how true it is
Realistically yes, you'll be at a disadvantage but you can definitely still do it. there's people in my class who didn't take the gcse so it's still possible to take it and do well if you're proactive with it :)
It will definitely take a while to get used to add it does differ from other subjects. I think at the beginning the amount of information may be a bit confusing but it depends on the person. Good luck
You've probably done ur a levels but tip for life is that anything I schallenging if you dontbput your mind at it and this is scoming from someone who's about to do their gcses soon
I'm doing history a level and i have to buy the book in the thumbnail and for psychology (not sure if i am doing it yet) i have to get the same text book again!

Yes for gcse you definitely need to know facts but facts aren’t as important as having a good judgement and opinion at a level :) xx
Rhiannon may as well drop it now lol
The grade boundaries are surprisingly high in history 80% is barely an 8
I lovedddd History. I would get a mixture of As and high Bs. I was probabl the second best student in the class.
I loved history but it definitely helps to have a good teacher! 💗✨
i have a terrible teacher. I regret every second of my life in those lessons.

Everyone who took history at school always complained about the workload! That kinda put me off. Although the subject itself is very interesting x

Yay this is the video I need! I am starting (edexcel) a level History this year so thank you😂❤️
Ah good luck! X

thank you shannon! and note taking is so different and difficult to master!
Cool stuff I did A Level History in 2008. We had to study Winston Churchill in the first half, then Margaret Thatcher in the second half of the year.
you are old my guy. why did you click this vid again?

I’m doing ocr a level history in September, I’m so nervous😦

I wish that the curriculum for gcse was the one you've had for a level.
