Sunak scraps HS2 leg - saying he knows what 'north really needs'

- The cancellation of the West Midlands to Manchester leg of HS2 has been the worst kept secret in politics.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But the Prime Minister assured the Tory Conference he knew 'what the North really needs' instead - namely a host of other transport projects there and across the Midlands.
Speculation about the decision has dominated the Conservative party conference in Manchester. This morning Rishi Sunak summoned his Cabinet to an emergency meeting to sign off the plans, before announcing them in his closing speech.

One of those projects apparently is to upgrade the Manchester Metrolink so it connects to Manchester Airport. Strange considering it already runs to the airport and has done for nearly 10 years.

So..
They "can't afford" to spend this £36bn on a desperately needed transport project..
..so instead. they spend the money on vague/un-costed projects.. the logic hurts
It's slight of hand - That £36bn probably won't be allocated for months or years, they will use the headroom in the budget to bung us tax-cuts as a sweetener in the run-up to the election.
The woman made a good point where if left as it was going, the line would start large scale construction on that section almost immediately, but bearing in mind how long it took from initial idea to this stage, all those other projects will not even have got started by the time they could have finished the HS2.
The logic is very clear when you realise that the Tories simply exist to transfer public wealth into private hands and make themselves and their mates rich.
They let it slip later on "get the private sector involved". Tory related private sector no doubt
so you will support the Labour Party when they refuse to back the ( white elephant ) project

What he means is, why should the Tories spend money on developing areas of the country that rarely vote in their favour....
is that why he's instead using the 36bn & spending it in the midlands and north?
Maybe if you DID invest in those areas they might vote for you then?

It’s about capacity. The West coast line has no capacity left for extra trains - so no extra passenger trains, no extra freight or logistics trains. When we left the EU what was the point 😂😂😂😂
We never did
@@j7ech402Oh yes you did. As a third country you have no say in the EU anymore and are a rule taker now. That’s the difference.
Seeing the UK from Europe these days feels like driving your BMW down the road and seeing an old man on a pushbike whose chain has come off. It’s a deep feeling of sadness, there’s no Schadenfreude involved, except for the w***ers like Nigel Farridge who orchestrated the fiasco. 😢
Yet we are still waiting to leave
@Tigra59 are you real?
Country destroyed from the inside
British rule was never a world model my dear rishi
Abuse of Social welfare and illegal undesirables destroyers countries…. Any country that is bi / multi lingual and multi cultural history shows it can’t survive tension conflict…. Where in Islam does it say to be diverse…..
Sunak doesn’t care about the UK
UK is really falling behind, HS2 will take 10 years to build 1 high speed line.
In China they built a 10,000km network of High speed rail system in 6 years.
Indonesia just opened theirs.
Egypt will be building 2000km for 9 billion dollars. But they're a third world country right?😂
In the long run rail is better as it takes millions of lorries transporting freight off the roads making it unnecessary to build more and more roads. Rail produces 76% fewer carbon emissions compared to roads but the Tories care little about that I assume.
Didn't he also announce that one of the alternative schemes would be extending the Metro link tram to Manchester airport - the one that has been operating since November 2014! Does he have any clue about the North???
His facial expressions are so fake ffs. The most fake PM ever.
Ukraine got over 7 billion of UK aid. That would have given Manchester their HS2 link.
So think about that as we also waste billions on the scroungers that arrive by rubber boat.
Jackanory tories, remember the 50 new hospitals?
If there's a North devide then North should have its own parliament
Southener here. These people don't represent me or anyone I know.
Don't let this divide the working class around the country.
@@runlarryrun77 completely agree this 69 billion should be spent on great Britain's defence especially at moment with putin! As if 8.2 billion for pot holes that will still be there this time next yr! Motorways 🛣 will still be same I've lived north all my life and my personal view is north as never done me any harm and I also enjoy the South! I to think the divide is sad tbf I always thought we was 1 in uk 🇬🇧
