Boca definitely shows the duality of their sound. Softer vocals paired with the heavier rap sections and the electric guitar on the chorus. On to Odd Eye!
Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song?
Thanks for some more DC love, man! You are not wrong in saying that the majority of this song is a little less intense. You are also correct in that this song is easier for folks to get into when it comes to Dreamcatcher's style. We usually recommend it to folks who are into k-pop, but only listen to more pop oriented things, or to non-kpop folks that listen to a mix of things, but show interest in hip-hop. That combined with this song going viral due to Dami's "HOLD UP!" line are the reasons this song has some of the highest views. I love the fact that we have to decide which song would best serve someone's interest. That speaks to the diversity you and we spoke about. "Odd Eye" is pretty cool. Once you've heard all 3, your favorite will probably flip back and forth. For the past few months, I've been obsessed with "Odd Eye". I'll spoil a couple things for you because they get overlooked a lot because so much shit is happening on the screen and in the song. 1) Peep the opening dance formation. It's very relevant to the song title. 😉 2) Pay attention to which member is singing during the bridge. It might surprise you. When we say that everyone is a talented vocalist in Dreamcatcher, it's not just some hype statement. We mean it. 😂 Thanks again for the reactions!
To me, it sounds softer because the members of the group sing in different roles of the story. This is just how I understand the story so far in Boca. In the beginning, the girl who had the mask (Gahyeon) gives a quick recount on what had happened to her in Scream and obviously she's suffering from her transformation in Scream from the bullied to the bully. Then divine entities (sung by certain members, JiU, Sua, Siyeon, Dami and Yoohyeon) take pity on the girl and others like her, and decide the only way to save them is to shut.. lock their mouths with divine thunder strikes (! with a guitar thunder no less). Also this is why during Sua and Siyeon's parts the song sounds heavenly. Unfortunately, since the song title is Dystopia: Lose myself, it means the goddesses' plan did not work as we see in the video. Yoohyeon shot an arrow into her goddess self and it signifies the online hate speech had also caused her to fall as well. It is a hint to the conclusion of part 3 (Odd Eye) and the sad truth that it is not possible to stop online haters even with divine judgement.
dreamcatcher \:D/ yeah boca is one of their more 'poppy' title tracks so that's why it's perhaps their most popular song. personally it's my least favorite of their title tracks but that's just be because I'm more a fan of the rock/metal side. after odd eye, there are a couple stand alone songs you should check out, 'because' and 'deja vu'. by stand alone, they are not part of some multi-song/video plot/theme.

My personal preference for their dystopia trilogy is Odd Eye, Scream then Boca.
dreamcatcher \:D/

I agree that I think their rock metal sound is so insane
