How fortuitous it is to have clicked on this!
I've been working on a novel that begins in 1637 - it's a shame the 17th century isn't as popular as the preceding 16th, or the succeeding 18th century- but it's fascinating to realise that the modern world truly began in this century; tea, coffee, chocolate, newspapers, forks, 3-piece suits, pineapple, postage, novels, taxis, public gardens, meringue*, scrapbooking * , & travel for pleasure/ to broaden one's horizons- not just as an essential means of getting about - if you closed your eyes, it could _almost_ feel a little like the modern world we know...
*They weren't _known_ by these names back then, though - still, my research shook me out of some preconceived notions...

wow! thanks a lot! Exactly and just as you say, the 17th century is very innovative but also very dark like any century! Hopefully something from the video will help you in your novel, good luck!

Your bond with your grandma seems wonderful, and what a wonderful way to remember her through the work you've done on this dress - which came out beautifully!

It's a gorgeous dress, I'm honestly really impressed at how well crafted it is considering you were so young when you made it. I'm 31, and I just got into sewing historical clothing myself, and I doubt my first project will look anywhere near that good, haha. It's also very sweet how this was kind of a bonding experience between you and your grandmother.
You're right that the 1600's fashion is definitely a bit of an acquired taste, but I personally find every decade of that century beautiful in its own way. It's nice to see someone giving the 1600's a bit of visibility, because it's very underrated period of fashion. I personally got into the 1600's because of a story I'm writing surrounding the witch trials, set in the 1680's in Norway. The 1600's are pretty much never mentioned in Norway, and is entirely unknown to most people, so the mystery of it really drew me in, especially when I found out that historians here call it "The century of misery", so much misery that no one ever talks about. I've been researching that time period in this country for several years now, but I've still only found a tiny sample of what people wore here, because hardly any clothing or portraits from that time period have survived here due to the fact that most people were poor.

Thank you very much for your kind and beautiful words! That's exactly how you say it, the 17th century is so unknown and I love that you take the challenge to investigate the stories and territories that were part of that time! thank you, your message definitely made my night! Have a good day💕

Firstly congratulations on your first video. the information was extremely fascinating I've always loved the baroque fashion and it's amazing to see one of these come to life. the only time i ever saw one of these dresses in non portrait form was a garment that somehow survived centuries in the ocean. i forget how but this is the second time ive seen one in organic form and the first time being worn. it's very lovely. I look forward to more of your videos.
