I always loved the hatters line at the end there, bc he USED to be a royal hatter, his whole family were prestigious well known highly reguarded hatters, they were beloved. So for a hatter of such high pedigree to ask to hat you, even a long retired mad one, thats special in context.

The favoritism should've happened because Iracebeth is prone to hotheadedness and sociopathy. The mother, who originally dragged Mirana into the room by her wrist and pointed an accusatory finger at HER first while speaking in a firm tone, told Iracebeth in a softspoken voice that she shouldn't blame her sister. Being hotheaded and not willing to explain her innocence, she exaggerated her "punishment" by running away. Even for a child, her reaction is unnecessary. Immediately after doing that, her parents rushed to her aid, and Mirana expressed visible guilt and concern that she was a cause for Iracebeth's injury. The insinuation many people believe that her family was uncaring is false on all levels. Her subjects laughed at her because she had done nothing to prove herself as a worthy ruler, and when the odds went against her favor because of her attitude, her subjects laughed- rightfully so, and also because laughing is not a crime. Who wouldn't laugh at a small crown (unsurprisingly) failing to fit on such a large head? Not to mention her constant jabs at the Hatter's father for being unable to place the crown on her head, as if he was to blame or eve deserved to be blamed. Her family didn't need to stand up for her because nothing bad happened to her. Even then, Iracebeth's attitude retaliated before her family could even react. Additionally, we've seen through her calloused and snappish behaviour that she isn't DESERVING of being defended. From childhood, we've seen that Iracebeth is ill-tempered, and her negative traits exacerbated into malignant narcissism, egoism, criminality, and a complete disregard for the life and wellbeing of others. Her "understandable rage" was to scream threats at the top of her lungs because she is unable to grasp humility and basic control over her emotions. There is nothing "understandable" about how she acted out because she acted out in the worst possible way. And it's fortunate her father finally came to his senses to give the crown to the White Queen. Nepotism aside, she should have never been considered for the crown to begin with, and it took them far too long enough to come to the conclusion that Iracebeth was unfit to rule. It's clear she was given far too much leniency up until the outburst, which proved the kind of person she truly is. At the end of the day, she chose to run away. She chose to have a calloused attitude that caused her subjects to disregard her. She chose to threaten and harm others simply because her own ego couldn't handle anything that isn't complete and utter submission. She may not have chosen to injure herself but the results of her environment are of her own responsibility, and she ended up choosing to be more villainous than she already was. As someone who's favourite character is the Red Queen, it's quite sad that I have to remind people like you that it's okay to like one-dimensional villains. The Red Queen was an evil, vile dictator, who ruled on her ego and child-like impulsions that cause her to act out dangerously. And that's WHY she's a great character. She does not need to be morally ambiguous, complex, or have a tragic backstory to make her a likeable character. You're allowed to enjoy characters who are evil for the sake of being evil. We don't need to make excuses or nitpick details for every single villainous character.

This clip always reminds me of the child red queen but stuffed in to the body of a grown-up woman. She had a good heart warped by the world around her.
She ruined Wonderland, committed genocide, and executed a starving frog and his children because he stole some tarts. It's also suggested she murdered her parents and her ex-lover. Not to mention how she kidnapped the Hatter's family and kept them imprisoned and tortured for decades. She also attempted to kill Alice and her friends numerous times, and enslaved Alice when she was a child. She also threatened her peasants for laughing. She also treated her and her other underlings as objects to appease to her own ego. She never cared for anyone except herself, and those who would benefit her. The moment someone was useless to her, she would execute them. Lol she wasn't a good character and she doesn't need to be, shes the perfect villain
@@rileysjonger4192 She is a good character for how well she was played. Her actions by itself are obviously unjustifiable, but her nuance and complexity as a character is what makes her so likeable.
@@GoldenWreck Yes, that's what I mean. But I wouldn't say she's "complex and nuanced". She's a good villain but her character is simplistic. She became a villain because her sister stole some cookies and blamed it on her.

Her parents favoured her younger sister and is why her mother so easily believed Mirana when she blamed Iracebeth for the tarts. Obviously feeling indignant, Iracebeth ran away and stumbled, causing irreversible bloating to her head. When it was her coronation day, the crown wouldn't fit on her head because of that, and her own subjects laughed at her with no one standing up for her, not even her sister or parents. In an understandable fit of humiliation, she raged at the audience, and her father's quick-fix solution to this was to crown Mirana instead.
A simple character would be a villain being evil just for the sake of it, whereas all these different aspects that the storytellers deliberately included to show how the Red Queen became how she was is what makes her character nuanced and complex.
@@GoldenWreck There was no indication that her parents favored the younger sister more. Actually, quite the opposite. The favoritism should've happened because Iracebeth is prone to hotheadedness and sociopathy. The mother believed Mirana because the crusts were right by Iracebeth's bed- an honest mistake that anyone could have fallen for. The mother, who originally dragged Mirana into the room by her wrist and pointed an accusatory finger at HER first while speaking in a firm tone, told Iracebeth in a softspoken voice that she shouldn't blame her sister. Being hotheaded and not willing to explain her innocence, she exaggerated her "punishment" by running away. Even for a child, her reaction is unnecessary. Immediately after doing that, her parents rushed to her aid, and Mirana expressed visible guilt and concern that she was a cause for Iracebeth's injury. The insinuation many people believe that her family was uncaring is false on all levels.
Her subjects laughed at her because she had done nothing to prove herself as a worthy ruler, and when the odds went against her favor because of her attitude, her subjects laughed- rightfully so, and also because laughing is not a crime. Who wouldn't laugh at a small crown (unsurprisingly) failing to fit on such a large head? Not to mention her constant jabs at the Hatter's father for being unable to place the crown on her head, as if he was to blame or eve deserved to be blamed. Her family didn't need to stand up for her because nothing bad happened to her. Even then, Iracebeth's attitude retaliated before her family could even react. Additionally, we've seen through her calloused and snappish behaviour that she isn't DESERVING of being defended. From childhood, we've seen that Iracebeth is ill-tempered, and her negative traits exacerbated into malignant narcissism, egoism, criminality, and a complete disregard for the life and wellbeing of others. Her "understandable rage" was to scream threats at the top of her lungs because she is unable to grasp humility and basic control over her emotions. There is nothing "understandable" about how she acted out because she acted out in the worst possible way. And it's fortunate her father finally came to his senses to give the crown to the White Queen. Nepotism aside, she should have never been considered for the crown to begin with, and it took them far too long enough to come to the conclusion that Iracebeth was unfit to rule. It's clear she was given far too much leniency up until the outburst, which proved the kind of person she truly is.
At the end of the day, she chose to run away. She chose to have a calloused attitude that caused her subjects to disregard her. She chose to threaten and harm others simply because her own ego couldn't handle anything that isn't complete and utter submission. She may not have chosen to injure herself but the results of her environment are of her own responsibility, and she ended up choosing to be more villainous than she already was. As someone who's favourite character is the Red Queen, it's quite sad that I have to remind people like you that it's okay to like one-dimensional villains. The Red Queen was an evil, vile dictator, who ruled on her ego and child-like impulsions that cause her to act out dangerously. And that's WHY she's a great character. She does not need to be morally ambiguous, complex, or have a tragic backstory to make her a likeable character. You're allowed to enjoy characters who are evil for the sake of being evil. We don't need to make excuses or nitpick details for every single villainous character.

I love Helena Bonham Carter. She’s just so good in her roles. I’ve never seen her phone it in. She often steals the show even when she’s next to Sandra Bullock or Cate Blanchett or the mighty Johnny Depp.

She portraid a queen who is spoiled, authoritive, yet didn't grew from her younger self. The way she speak, her facial expressions are still of a CHILD! This clip always reminds me of the child red queen but stuffed in to the body of a grown-up woman. You can clearly see how her parents didn't even put any effort to teach her stuff to be a proper adult, specially a proper queen. All she knows is scare and threaten people.

Same, at first I was a little annoyed with his performance, especially with how much he changes his accent. Then I thought about it… if he really was a “Mad Hatter” the part of his mind that governs consistent speaking must be damaged, making it entirely normal for him to switch accents mid conversation.

She was the queen of outcasts. Granted lots of people were faking it but she only accepted people that were not ordinary.
Even though she’s evil, at least she understands people with disabilities & doesn’t treat them the same as everyone else since her friends (even though they were faking it) also had their own defects & disabilities
The queen is such an interesting character. She takes everyone in that doesnt fit in with the norms, even if she is a bit crazy, who isnt in Wonderland? Yes some are faking it, but the fact that she doesnt judge is great, even if she isnt a good person

you have to consider the fact she is royal, though she is evil, and still empathetic. She is of higher power, more control, more deserving to luxury due to power. Theyre also all quite mad in wonderland in some way as well. Naturally, her entire character is "evil," she still has her persona though.
