      I actually enjoy the longer format. A lot of content nowadays is too fast-paced. There needs to be a balance, and you brought that! I'm also from AZ so I love hearing about your adjustments to a new climate and lifestyle. I just found your channel yesterday since I've been on an intentional living/decluttering journey for almost a year now. I can't wait to see what else you have in store, and I hope you are taking care. ❤
      My opinion is to buy that same black jacket in a size that fits. It seems clear that you would wear it often and that it makes you happy. It is one thing that is worth the investment, and you can work that into any budget goals you may have by denying a couple impulse-buys. Totally justified to me!

      @@EpicMrMustache Same! Love the longer content and slower videos since so much is fast these days! So glad I had that balance 😊 Love connecting with another AZ person! Finally get to have all 4 seasons and so excited to see what the east coast spring and summer is like 💖

    From Canada here - key to staying warm outside in winter for me is - toque, mitts, winter coat, winter boots. Not fashion boots, but actual winter boots. And yes, January and February are the worst! But it really makes you appreciate the wonder of spring - the first robin you see, the leaves just starting out on the trees - beautiful.

    Put the jacket in a bag or bin. See if you go into the bag or bin at all, if you do keep it but only as you look for another jacket to replace it with. You really seem to love it, and regret is something I've felt after cleaning out my closet.

    Born and raised in upstate ny. My suggestions for staying warm are: Wool socks! Cuddle duds base layers. Look for natural fibers in your sweaters. Avoid faux shearling lined footwear and slippers, and faux leather. In my experience they make your feet sweat and then get cold. If I keep my feet and neck warm the rest of me stays warm. Good luck, and welcome to the east coast!

    The beige cardigan you were not sure about at about 16:42 . I would say it is good for Spring and Fall. Generally I have found that cardigans especially if longer don’t work well in winter because they don’t go well under a lot of coats and really aren’t warm enough generally. So I’d be sure to wait and see if you wear it in Spring or Fall before you get rid of it.

    Welcome to the eastern part of our country! I lived 50+ yrs in northern CA till hubby retired. We then spent 12 years traveling thru the US (west to east) in a motorhome - dealing with various climates (including the artic blast in Texas winter of 2020/21 🥶)
    We ended up settling down in 2022 in western Kentucky (🤔!?) and learning to deal with 4 seasons. I definitely got me a good quality winter coat (columbia brand anorak style car coat length) with enough room to wear layers underneath.

    Watching this a few months late. If you thought winter was an adjustment just wait for summer 😂 being from Arizona you don’t know of the joy we East Coasters experience, called humidity. Take whatever the temp is an then add 20 to get what it feels like. For summer you’re going to want light breathable fabrics 😉 Summer with humidity will have you begging for winter. Fall and spring are nice though and I think fall makes summer worth it.

    • @SamanthaRae.
      @SamanthaRae.  Місяць тому

      Haha I am so scared of the summer now, everyone has been telling me the same thing lol ☀️ Have some light and breathable items for the warmer months and hoping I make it through the humidity. My hair and humidity are not the best of friends so it's going to be an adventure 😂

    21:30 Good tip: it's always smart to keep a box of few absolute favourites clothes in smaller/bigger size. I know that everyone is saying to get rid of them, but this works only when someone have the same weight for years, otherwise it's just a waste to get rid of loved clothes. I don't say that it should be a lot, just few pieces kept in box.

    • @SamanthaRae.
      @SamanthaRae.  5 місяців тому

    *laughs in North Dakotan* I deal with -20+ degree weather NORMALLY but right now because of el nino it has been in the 10-30 degree weather range which is kinda cold but nothing like what I'm used to.
    Advice:
    - ACTUAL winter boots, they will keep you warm. Uggs, fake uggs, Bearpaw, etc.
    - Winter coat that is WARM. Warmth > aesthetic. Puffer coats might look nice but I promise you half of them won't keep you warm. Invest in a GOOD winter coat.
    - LAYER LAYER LAYER. In the winter, I normally have a sweatshirt and a winter coat on. But you can have a long sleeved shirt, vest, and then your winter coat.
    - FLEECE lined leggings - leggings that are just warmer
    - hand warmers - they will keep your hands warm. Just put them in your pockets and you're good to go.
    - do not buy expensive hats, gloves ,scarves, etc. because you WILL lose them.
    None clothing wise, if it's in your budget GET AUTOSTART. If you don't know what it is, you get it put in your car and it will start it. Great for AC/heat because you won't suffer from being too hot or too cold. I'd die if I wasn't able to warm my car up when it's cold as hell out.

      Oh my gosh, ok I have nothing to complain about with the winter here compared to that 🥶 No idea how you deal with that level of cold but so impressed! And thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it! 🤗

For Christmas my family gave me these awesome rechargeable hand warmers and I've been using them non-stop, so great!! I've been stepping up my layering game and that makes such a difference! Michigan girl here! Wool socks & base layers are key to keeping warm! I also will sometimes wear a pull over sweater with a thick cardigan over top. I find wool to be much warmer than polyester sweaters. Also if you live in an older house/apartment building, there are these plastic window liners you can get that you use a hairdryer to shrink to the window & it helps hold the heat in! Then you just take them off when the weather warms up. Good boots, gloves, and coat is very important for when you're outside! Definitely buy for warmth and wind/water resistance over what's cute lol.

    U should keep that jacket since u love it so much…then decide in 6 mos how u feel! Or use it as incentive to lose a few lbs so it fits perfectly? I only say that bc u said it used to fit better I don’t think u need to lose any lbs! Great vid & motivation!!❤

    Prepare yourself for summer. It's ridiculously swampy here in DC. Being from AZ, you're gonna hate it :)

      I'm from NJ but in DC now, so I'm not cold at all here. But if you're struggling, get some Cuddlduds from Target. Also soft wool socks. Don't skip the gloves and hat.

      Oh no haha, hopefully it will be better than the 120 degree summers 😅 After that crazy heat I'm down to try handling humidity instead, but we'll see how it goes haha

    Replace the black jacket. You clearly love it only problem is the fit. Also wearing a tight tank or t shirt underneath sweaters keeps you much warmer so there’s no breeze under the sweater.

    Get rid of the leather jacket. Take a photo of it if it’s sentimental but it won’t make you feel good because you will want to wear it but it won’t fit well and you will always feel a little bad about yourself like you remember when it USED TO fit well. Also, you won’t be looking for or won’t buy a new one that does fit well because you will think you already have one even if you don’t actually wear it.
