- Oberheim OB-X8 synth demo featuring sounds, patches and presets. In this Oberheim OBX8 demo I showcase the new OB-X8 analog synth from Oberheim and demo a variety of sounds including pads, brass, plucks, arps, bass and more. Filmed at Sequential headquarters in San Francisco.
The Oberheim OB-X8 is a monster analog synth featuring 2 disecrete SEM/OB-X-lineage VCOs per voice. It has 8 voices, 2 oscillators (saw, square/pulse, triangle), noise, SEM and Curtis filters, bi-timbrality, LFOs, arpeggiator, 2 envelopes, velocity sensitivity, channel aftertouch, cross-modulation, portamento, unison, osc sync and more.
The Oberheim OB-X8 combines numerous vintage Oberheim models into a single unit including the OB-X, OB-Xa, OB-8 and OB-SX. The Oberheim OBX8 can put out massive and powerful sounds with huge low-end, creamy filter sweeps and bright and biting tones. It sounds fantastic for pads especially thanks to its wide stereo imaging.
I had the opportunity to try the Oberheim OB-X8 during a trip to San Francisco and visit to Sequential headquarters. It is very impressive in size and sound, and is truly an analog behemoth. If you're after the Oberheim sound, the OB-X8 is amazing. Hope you enjoy this demo of the Oberheim OBX8, I certainly enjoyed my time with it.

I own one and still can't get over how good it sounds. If you can afford it, buy it. You will not be disappointed. Every time I turn mine on it's an adventure into sound.

Often times ppl say they prefer ob-x8 over minimoog d, I wonder what you guys think, can we compare them or they’re totally different in what they do and it’s only price tag which brings them together ..? And last but not least wonder if minimoog even can beat ob-x8 in any specific way (knowing its a monophonic synth though)?

This synth sounds crazy. In a (really) good way. Much more versatile than I would have expected an OB to sound.
Yea, it's pretty versatile especially since it has different Oberheim models inside!
OB's occupy a strange place in synth history. They are both respected and dismissed, simultaneously (less so nowadays). Oberheim is the muscle car of synth.

I have never been so jelly as I am of everyone who has this instrument. I'm still trying to make a deal with the devil to sell my soul for one of these. I love all the classic rock this is famous for.

Love these sounds. Could anybody upload a comparison demo of the Oberheim OBX8 and the Behringer UB-Xa? May not be a fair comparison, just for the sake of the curious cats like myself.

Listened to your song Karate, it’s awesome! Honestly your oberheim sounds the same as this. In some instances I’m hearing more vintage analog from Synth4evers Demo of the ObX8. However in other UA-cam videos like andertons they don’t seem to know how to get the most from it. I think it depends on who’s hands it’s in. Synth4ever demo sound freakin amazing as analog as it gets! Marcus who was one of the original creators also does a great job showing the exact 1 to 1 correspondence between this one and the ones of old. They are exactly the same as much as exactly the same can technically be

Is it difficult to add some FX, like reverb, chorus, phaser and delay? It will double the power of this synth! If you are purist, you could always turn it off...
FX are typically added during a mixdown.
there is no sound in this demo that would inspire me to get the Oberheim OB-X8... either it's poor audio recording or the Oberheim OB-X8 sounds like a Casio keyboard..
Thats ok, not every synth is a fit for everyone. FYI this was a direct line recording into a Zoom H5.

Needs internal effects or good external effects unit. I don't like dry output of electronic Instruments. At least the amp envelope should always have a short decay. Snaping back to zero in an instant sounds terrible.
Otherwise this is the first demo of the OB-X8 that shows the real quality of the instrument. Most others were incompetent noodling by piano playing guys.
As for your 2nd paragraph: no, just no.
Dude some synths probably, but for most of the OB-X8 sounds doesn’t need FX, the raw sound is enough.
Actually, I think this one of the few synths I hear that has so much tone that you don’t have to rely on cheap guitar pedals to make it sound great
