Shifting Sand Land is Egypt in Super Mario 64! Watch out for quicksand, be amazed by old ancient pyramids and solve the pyramid puzzle while evading the klepto trying to steal your cap.

I was always really interested in seeing what Super Mario 64 2 would look like if it came out in 2000 and used the upgraded jumper pak.
The N64 changed a lot by the time it's support life ended.

A lot of people are hating on this level! Honestly, this is one of my favorite levels in the whole game! Yes, I understand the controls are a bit wonky, but honestly, if you get used to it it’s a piece of cake! If they can’t control it, that’s THEIR fault! I love the idea of going inside a pyramid! Small mistakes make you die, so... try again!

Just when you thought you have beaten the heat in the level before, here comes another scorcher in a dry, quicksand filled desert they call Shifting Sand Land (no kidding, right?). Once you've finished taking stars from birds and avoiding sand tornadoes and pricklies galore, slide like an Egyptian into the ancient pyramid where Mummy Thwomps, goombas, and more deadly quicksand await you. Just don't disturb the slumber of the giant hands. If you do, well, at least there's another star in it. If you win the battle, anyway.

Oh, fuck yeah. I remember finding this level after almost 10 years of never once touching the game.
This desert level has everything you expect quicksand tornadoes a pyramid to explore and a ancient boss. My favorite part is grabbing a koopa shell and playing tonny hawks pro skater on sand. My least favorite part is klepto the bird because he can steal your hat.

The easiest to get a Star on top of the pyramid is to grab the wing cap on top of the roof, near the start of the course and fly to the star in the alcove at the top of the pyramid, but after you activated the big red switch and after you have collected the 10 Stars. Mario is standing in the sun symbol inside the castle and transported into the sky and flies. Mario must land on the platform and press on the red big switch to activate the Wing Cap switch.

Super Mario 64 was the blueprint for the 3D platformers that followed it. There were 3D platformers before this, but Super Mario 64 was the first game to master the 3D platforming mechanics.

The easiest way to get the sixth star is to repeat Standing Tall on 4 Pillars but then once you are inside search for the coins
How are you able to keep a straight flight path with the wing cap? I can't stay in the air for a second without losing air!

The two hands were the weirdest boss in the game. We used to love SM64 as a kids because, even if it was evidently made for kids, still it had this things that were somehow of a darker tone here and there, that made you feel like you were playing a game that was for a slightly more mature audience. Imagine how dark it was course 6 back then for a kid. It's a bit like the same thing that happens with Dragonball if you really think about it!

As you get closer to it, slow down and walk slowly since it gets narrower and narrower. You'll touch it. Then walk slowly away, and once it's wide enough you can start running again.

I was dreamed about being at Shifting Sand Land and that Kylepto Buzzard/Fat Bird stole my burger and I caught it and BBQ'd it at Lethel Lava Land.

I guess this goes to show you that you DON'T need the cannon to get the four Red Coins in the air. Most people would use it, though.

If the bird doesn't hold your hat after taking it check in tall tall mountain. The little monkey at the top of the mountain will be wearing it for some reason

The music could be better… I mean the over world in the stage should be a more desert theme while the pyramid should should have the current theme.
