Brian Wilson talks about his first solo single "Caroline, No." This track ended up as the last song on the Beach Boys's classic 1966 album, Pet Sounds.
My grandfather introduced me to your music when I was a kid. He sure loved you and the other Beach Boys. He was my best bud. We were going to the Alpharetta show together on June 29th, but he unfortunately passed away last month. I was deeply saddened I wouldn’t be able to share this experience with him, but I’m so grateful for the memories and the incredible music he turned me on to. Thanks for everything Mr. Brian!
You're grandfather was a man of exquisite musical taste, and a clearly a wonderful grandfather for sharing his love of music with you. Sorry for your loss .
Just a song. No sir, they're more than that. Growing up, it was never truly summer here in Florida until we heard you and the guys on the radio while we were heading to the beach. It was the soundtrack to our young lives. Hearing the songs again now, it's like a time machine so they are all more than "just a song". Thanks for all the great music bud.
A beauty of beauties. The fitting end to the legendary Pet Sounds album. We played it over and over again in 66 when it came out. It still makes you stop and listen.
It's placement near the end made the whole album sound like the ultimate goodbye to summer and youth. Surf's Up has a similar vibe. A sledgehammer to the feels, man.
I always loved your music and harmonies, Brian, special voices like Carl's or Alan Jardine's ones even Dennis hoarsely voice When Pet Sound was released in France, I ran to buy it and was so under the charm of this album completely different from the others I could listen to it 10 times a day at the week-end and I was especially puzzled by Caroline No where your voice works wonders In France the question was always are you Beatles or Rolling Stones ? and I surprised everyone in answering I am Beach Boys I was lucky to find records from you when I was 11/12 years and I still love your music at 71
@@Supercell725 THIS from a Capitol Exec. Karl Engemann: ""With regard to Pet Sounds, I can remember when that album was delivered. On first listening, I knew it was different, but it was so well done, and Brian was so enthusiastic about it, he was so in love with it, that you couldn't help but be excited. But then, it was played at a sales meeting, and the marketing guys were really disappointed and down about the record, because it wasn't the normal 'Surfin' U.S.A.' 'Help Me Rhonda,' 'Barbara Ann,' kind of production. History has proven that the Beach Boys were right, and since then Pet Sounds has been embraced as a truly classic album.""
@@allenf.5907 Thanks Allen for that very interesting information. I’m 65 and grew up listening to the BB thanks to a older brother that was 10 years my senior. Over the years I’ve come to understand that Brian was a musical genius and way ahead of his time.
My daddy is responsible for getting me introduced into your music and as well your musical genius, Brian; along with the other Beach Boys as well. We both very much loved your music and we still do, but unfortunately he passed here last year on August 21st. He grew up with you guys as a band in his early days, as he was born in 1963. I'm so grateful to have had a father who had a great taste in music and who had musical favoritism in you guys! May your music and legacy live on throughout history for many generations to come!
I sort of lived this song at my five year high school reunion. There was a girl in my high school class I remembered as being beautiful, full of fun and life. She was adorable, but clumsy. I remember her at cheerleader tryouts (which were an event at my high school) where she failed miserably but just laughed at herself as she walked off stage. Totally lovely personality. Then, at the reunion, I met her and she was totally cold and cynical. Her inner beauty was gone.
To make a bitter ending. It isn't supossed to feel complete. It's supposed to feel hollow and dour to create a real sense of misery. I was confused and kind of disaponted the first time i listened to it but on repeat listens i realised the meaning of it and enjoyed the song much more.
Such a beautiful track, I’ve listened to it so many times. As a kid I remember rushing to lift the needle because Banana and Louie’s barking at the end would make our family dog, Alex bark too! 😅 🐶 🐕

This song is about a sweet girl growing up to become a bitter feminist. Cut her hair short, lost her happy glow, etc. Where is the girl I used to know? A totally different person from the once sweet and happy girl of her youth.

Your comment made me smile and also tear up. I think I would have liked your Grandfather.

oh to have lived in the 60's listening to the beach boys

Pet Sounds and Beethoven are the only musical works I keep downloaded to my iPhone. PS is a true masterpiece....
Get your Mozart going next.
Greatest vocal Brian ever gave and that’s saying something. My favorite all time song.
Much as I love Brian's vocal on Caroline No I've got to say my favourite is his vocal on Surfs Up .
One of the most beautiful things your ears can ever hear
The only single to have Brian's name on it in the 60's. Capitol thought of that.
Capitol really didn't think highly of Pet Sounds and instead put out the Greatest Hits packages to compete with it.
@@allenf.5907 Capital at the time must of been a bunch of Squares

@@allenf.5907 That needs to go down as one of the biggest marketing faux pas in history....

Whether happy or sad, it's definitely one of the most beautiful melodies ever written.
Thank you, Brian. Wonderful music by a wonderful soul you are.🌞

0:32 it's just a song HAHAHAHA
I can say he is just saying "there's nothing more to say, the lyrics are pretty clear"

I pray her inner grace returned, what was there can be found again. 🙏
It really sucks when that happens to people. .
Always wondered why he didn’t repeat the chorus just one time, it feels so incomplete.

AS A FRIEND OF MINE USED TO SAY ALL THE TIME.."MR WILSON, MR WILSON"👍
There's a Caroline in many a young man's life. There was in mine.
He is modest to the core what
Genius
One of the most poignant songs ever recorded.
Beyond Classic! A part of a chapter of my life. Many, many, thanks :))
