- Ladakh is known for its Monasteries but did you know there lies a peaceful Gurudwara amidst the Himalayas and it dates back to the 15th century.
About 12000 ft above the sea level on the Leh Kargil road, there lies a rock which resembles the shape of Guru Nanak’s back. There are many stories around it but the local Ladakhis and many tourists believe in the spiritual powers that exist at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Nestled between beautiful mountains, the gurudwara is 25 kms before Leh.
GURUDWARA PATHAR SAHIB
Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, most revered place where Guru Nanak Dev ji, founder of the Sikh religion is believed to have conquered a demon. Legend has it that once Guru Nakak ji was meditating at this place and a demon had thrown a big rock to obstruct his prayers but the boulder turned into soft wax that failed to harm him, seeing this the demon asked for penance for his deed and Guru Nanak ji forgave him. The boulder with the imprint of the body of Guru Nanak Dev and the footprint of the demon is on display in Gurdwara Pathar Sahib. Albeit, the area is known majorly for Buddhism but Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is equally worshipped by anyone who visits this place. It is maintained by the Indian Army.

Sorry to say and i love my sikh brothers but this gurudwara was built on complete miscommunication. The local man explaining this to the sikh army people back in the 70s or something said it was guru rinpochhe(padmasambhava) and they understood it as guru nanak lol. There is no evidenve of guru nanak ever coming to Ladakh. As sikhism is only in 16th century, which is probably one of the peak buddhist cultural booms in Ladakh, it's illogical to think that guru nanak ever came here, otherwise there would be definitely some sikh here since he was such a tantric master. But if you look at sites all accross ladakh there are hand-prints, foot-prints in rocks and caves left by very acheived meditators and buddhist yogis. So please don't be misguided.
