Pod Racing was indeed absolutely turned into a video game. And it was probably the best thing to come out of Episode I :P

In 1977, Ben and Vader fought with white sticks.
Then the artists used Rotoscoping to literally draw the lightsaber by hand, one frame at a time, to replace the white sticks with Ben's blue and Vader's red lightsabers.
They were told to move slowly because the film would pick up a white blur if they move fast, and they had no tools to remove the white blur from the film.
Things got slightly better through the next two episodes, but no CGI yet.
Then in this movie, they could go full CGI, let the actors fight at full speed, and use computers instead of artists with cramping hands create the visual effects.
Side note: Ray Park who plays Darth Maul is an accomplished martial artist and stuntman who was hired to teach Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor how to fight.
Lucas liked his style so much that he put him in the makeup and let him be Darth Maul.
So yeah, they choreographed the fights, but then when the camera was rolling, he basically said "Come get me." and they went at it full speed.
This is my second favorite lightsaber fight in all of Star Wars, with the final battle of this trilogy being my favorite.
Cool about Park. And I get the magic of CGI. I think I might have been charmed a bit more by the fight scenes in A New Hope with a faster pace, but then the faster pace sometimes gets too fast and loses me. Can't win with me, I guess!!! lol
Qui-Gon knew Padme was doing the old switch-er-roo but he had no interest in spoiling her secret.

Qui-Gon didn't disappear because extremely special training is required and only certain people are worth of becoming a Force Ghost. Qui-Gon was the first one EVER to be worthy of the training but died before he could complete the training.

Actor Preparation Fact: Ewan McGregor studied many of Sir Alec Guinness's films, including Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), to ensure accuracy in everything, from his accent to the pacing of his words.
Cameos Cameos Fact: Producer Rick McCallum appears on the right, in a floppy wide-brim hat, when Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) meets Senator Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). Sound designer Ben Burtt appears to the left of Rick McCallum (with goatee). Visual effects supervisor John Knoll plays the Naboo pilot who gets killed during the space battle.
Sound Effects Fact: The sound of the underwater monsters growling near the beginning of the film was made by the main sound technician Ben Burtt's three-year-old daughter. The sound of her crying was recorded and the frequency lowered to obtain the sound heard in the film. To create the sounds of the spectators during the pod race scene, sound designer Ben Burtt took a recorder to a San Francisco 49ers game, and recorded the crowd's reactions.
Double Duty Fact: At the time of the film's release, the producers ran a disinformation campaign to suggest that Natalie Portman played both Padmé and The Queen at all times. In fact, they are not always the same person. For many sections of the film, notably those where The Queen is wearing the black outfit with the huge feather headdress, she is actually a decoy, played by Keira Knightley. The real queen, Portman, is actually disguised as a handmaiden. Various conflicting public statements make it extremely difficult to figure out who is who. Whole websites are devoted to figuring out which actress is playing which. However I have seen some people that can tell which is which.
The Rest Of The Story Fact: Liam Neeson was so eager to be in the film that he signed on without having read the script. Keira Knightley's parents tried to convince her not to audition, but the twelve-year-old actress still sought a role, given she was a Star Wars fan. Jake Lloyd has said that he retired from acting because of the trauma he experienced after playing Anakin Skywalker. According to Lloyd, other children constantly teased him about the role, for example, making lightsaber sounds whenever he walked by. Lloyd also said that the situation was made worse because, in his opinion, the film did not meet the fans' expectations. Despite this, Lloyd has reprised the role of Anakin in several video games and has appeared at Star Wars conventions and events.
Poor kid. Why were people so mean to those involved with this movie?? I know Knightley's face very well because the Pride & Prejudice she was in is one of my absolute fave movies. So, I could spot both of them this time around!!!
I love hearing about how the sound effects were made! Things sped up or slowed down or combined. Love it!
I also recognized how Ewan was working hard to sound like Alec. He did an excellent job.
okchristina ...The people who should be held accountable for a terrible movie, are the director, producers, and writer. Actors are often never given the full picture during filming and brainwashed to believe in an ideology that mainstream movie going public doesn't share.

Watching 'The Federation has gone too far this time' in the trailer before the film came out, I was thinking 'Star Wars?'

If you’re looking for a deeper explanation of the build up to the prequel story. I recommend the (non canon) novel ‘Star Wars: Darth Plagueis’. It’s the story of the emperor and his training in the dark side. It runs right up to episode 1. Although it’s not canon anymore I think the way they build the story is amazing and it will be my head canon for the star wars universe moving forward.
My dad is a huge fan of darth maul, when he got a double blade lightsaber as a sith warrior.

for claritys sake, Anakin is 9 in this film, Padme is 14, the Naboo is a Democratic Monarchy: they ELECT their queen for a term, when her term is up, she steps down and another elected queen takes her place, Padme was elected twice, then the council on Naboo tried to amend their constitution to allow her to be elected again, but instead opted to make her their representative in the Republic and made her the Senator of Naboo

In Star Trek, they use technology. They even make up endless words of techobabble to make it sound like interesting tech.
In Star Wars, it's just Sci-Fi Magic. No technobabble, no explanations, it just all works whenever the writers want it to, and fails spectacularly when they don't.
Episodes IV - VI had the same forcefield technology on hanars in space, like when the Millennium Falcon landed on the Death Star - it flew right in through a forcefield, but the air inside the hangar could not get out of the forcefield into space.
Same thing here.
This forcefield keeps air in the Gungan city but keeps water out.
But let's Jedi in.

Padme was Queen of Naboo and was 14 years old. Also the effects aren't that bad, I never even notice except for the basic green fields in the droid battle, that I always notice but you can tell they ran out of budget lol.

On Naboo, the humans elect queens to rule. Very forward-thinking of them.
I guess they could elect a king but I'm unaware of one.
Wookiepedia says there were a few in the distant past but none recently.
They also elect them very young because that means they are pure. Or something like that.
This queen, Padme, was elected when she was 14 and I think she still is, so she hasn't been queen very long.
Her parents were some humble family, not royalty at all.
I ask a lot of questions during movies... this one was worth solving the confusion for sure. That is quite the tradition. Very perplexing to our present societies!
"Immaculate Conception" refers to Mary's state of being pure of sin. A lot of folks think it means she conceived without having sex.

At the time of this movie, there are supposed to be about 10,000 Jedi doing Jedi things all over the galaxy.
It never really seems like it though.
In an upcoming movie, we see 212 of them gather for a battle.
It is supposed to be an unbelievably important battle to decide the fate of the entire galaxy.
And yet, only 2% of the Jedi showed up for it.
That would be like reading about D-Day and finding out the allies had 195,000 soldiers but sent only 4,000 soldiers into Normandy and the other 191,000 just didn't bother.

@@okchristina as a former band geek (marching band & jazz band), I can't imagine the adrenaline pumping through you for that performance. I would have been insanely nervous!
It was definitely a different sort of adrenaline... I wasn't at all worried about the actual music or the size of the audience, but instead just being able to not go into total fandom meltdown mode and forgetting what I was there to do. lolol Like studying for a test and knowing all of the answers but then having to answer them out loud while riding a roller coaster.
There is only one correct order to view all of the movies, and that is release order. Please do not let anyone talk you into another order (like 'the machete order'). I don't think you can do that one, as you've already seen 5 films, so just stick with release order. Also, don't forget Rogue One, which is IMO the best film outside Eps 4, 5, 6, & 3.
Oh I keep forgetting about Rogue One! I'll have to make sure it is worked in the right spot --- yes, I believe release order is the way to go!

It was all a clever plan by Jar Jar himself, evil ruler of the galaxy, to use the trade federation to start a war then defeat them, all so Jar Jar can rule the galaxy.

Qui-Gon is the last person in Star Wars to be killed with a lightsaber through the belly.
Since this time, I can name numerous people, including a young child, who got stabbed exactly the same way and were just fine a few days later. One of them got stabbed this way twice with no ill effects.
I guess that makes Qui-Gon a wimp.

this movie has a lot of SET UP for the next two films so it has alot plot going on , it all pays off in the next two films

Not if it's like earth, with a core of liquid iron surrounded by molten rock, all at 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Luckily Naboo is nothing like that.
Think of Naboo as a giant sponge with nothing molten, just a pleasantly cool planet-sized sponge.
To go through the core of the giant sponge, just navigate through all the holes until you come out the other side.
Now, is this a possible?
Not even close.
Naboo seems to have normal gravity, which means it's even bigger than Earth (because a hollow planet like Naboo must be bigger to have the same mass).
As with every planet everywhere in the universe that's big enough to be round (e.g. bigger than Pluto), gravity would collapse it until the core is solid, not a water-filled sponge.
And THAT would make it like Earth, which would make it impossible to go through a molten core.
Gravity always wins.
Well, that's what I was thinking!!
1. Of the prequels I like this one the best mostly for the POD race and the underwater sequences,
2. Jar Jar is mostly comic relief since we don't have C3PO
3. Liam Neeson was very busy with various productions at the time and was in huge demand and agreed to do this episode because Qui-Gon Jinn dies and he won't be obligated to do more.
4. How Jar Jar becomes a "general" is beyond me.
5. It's easy to know why this one didn't start the series because of the lack of CGI back in 1977.

I've watched a lot of movie reactions.
IMO, the best reactions are the honest ones.
When a reactor can watch Catwoman (2004) and rave about how awesome it was, it just doesn't ring true at all. I think they're shilling for movie companies so they get free merch. I've seen some of them even get invited to private screenings and premiers on the red carpet, mainly because they have lots of subs and love every movie, even garbage movies.
I don't watch them anymore.
True, honest reactions that aren't afraid to say the bad along with the good are my favorite, but that's just my opinion. You do you.

On the opposite end, I don't care for reactors who hate too much on something. Like a kids' movie that they just can't appreciate because they're not a kid anymore. It's fine to not have enjoyed it, but I think they should be sure to point out what their viewers liked about it. Otherwise it just makes you feel a bit stupid. lol Or old lololol
Jar Jar and the entire Ep 1... I have held feelings of almost embarrassment from when I originally saw this when it was originally released. Like I felt really bad for Lucas and the voice of Jar Jar. Like, yikes dudes. You messed up! You think SOMEONE would have told them the truth! So this was like an old wound for me, if that makes sense. I had already made peace with it especially after hearing that the voice actor had lots of trouble because of it. It's just kinda sad. I wasn't quite up for opening that debate too wide. I don't see that happening too often on the channel!
@@okchristina I totally get that, and I myself rarely say anything bad about an actor, unless it's really awful (Kevin Costner, I'm talking about your Robin Hood...)
And even then, that example is about as mean as I'm willing to get.
I feel bad when any actor is pained by angry "fans". It's often not their fault - many times they're doing exactly what the director tells them, and doing THAT very well.
In either case, attacking them is not cool.
I think the Ahmed Best (the voice actor and mocap performer for Jar Jar) did an excellent job, but that whole character should have been written differently to begin with, or saved for a different Star Wars For Kids movie.
I guess my original post here was meant to say that I like your honesty about how out of place Jar Jar feels in a movie about war and politics, but then your outro seemed to forget or retcon that.

I personally put Episode 1 above the original trilogy. You don't seem to like detail heavy, as an author myself I see details as quality.

It feels like the movie can't quite figure out who the target audience is.

Definitely watch episodes 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 in that order. Some of those, especially in the final trilogy, are tragically bad movies IMO, but they still put an end to the Skywalker Saga and should be watched by fans - just don't have high hopes for them.
Rogue One is a very good movie, top 3 of all Star Wars movies in my estimation.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is a movie, and not an especially good one. It's pretty bad, actually. I might advise just skipping it, but for the sake of completing all things Star Wars, maybe watch it and be ready to make fun of it.
Andor is a TV series that is the prequel to Rogue One, so watch this soon after (not before) that movie. It is definitely unique, and good in many ways, but it's about as long as the original trilogy (episodes IV - VI) with about 1/10th the excitement factor, so have some caffeine with you. Come to think of it, I may have overestimated that. Could be 1/20th.
The best live action TV show is the Mandalorian, which takes place between episode VI and VII and is pretty good, most of the time. Season 2 gets bogged down in long meandering episodes that serve little purpose, and season 3 tries to do too much and ends up being rather disjointed, but none of it is outright bad like the previous 2 TV shows. To get the most out of season 3, you need to watch Book of Boba Fett between season 2 and 3. Yeah, they did that. Stuff in season 3 kinda requires you to see the Mandalorian's parts of that other show or you won't knew everything that's going on.
The Book of Boba Fett is a TV show that tries to be good but ultimately fails at nearly everything. They tried to save it by bringing in The Mandalorian to make it more interesting, but that just made it more disjointed and weird. Timothy Olyphant is great, though! The best time to watch it is BETWEEN season 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a TV show that takes place halfway between episode III and IV, when Luke/Leia are about 10 years old, give or take a year. I personally disliked nearly everything about it and wish it had never been made, or, at least made with writers who graduated 2nd grade. But some people really like it, so go for it. At least Ewan McGregor is back, so there's that.
Finally, Ahsoka. In my opinion, this is the worst Star Wars has ever been, and it had to try very, very hard to slip down below Obi-Wan and Book of Boba. it's badly written, badly acted, and ruins more than one interesting character by making them incompetent and useless. You could seriously skip this one. But if you're a completionist, go for it.
Those are all my opinions, which I know many long-time Star Wars fans share, but lots of people, especially younger/newer fans, have different opinions on some of those, so take it all with a grain of salt.

In case you don't know, Episode III is the big payoff. It is also the best of the 3 prequels. So even if you aren't impressed with Episode I (and/or Episode II), you have to hang in their and watch through III.

It’s very likely that the primary reason that you found it harder to like this movie was because it lacks the dynamics of the relationship between Han, Luke, and Leia. Especially Han. He’s larger than life, cool, irreverent, and funny.
TPM doesn’t have any of that. Many of the characters are written and/or played as serious and unapproachable. Jar Jar appeals to the kids, but he’s too buffoonish for most adults.
The redeeming part of this is the final lightsaber battle. This movie, along with The Matrix, ushered in a new era where actors really trained themselves for months and months to do incredibly athletic and skilled fight choreography.
For these movies they got a master swordsman to develop unique fighting styles for each character, and it became an embodiment of the lore that had been developing through Star Wars video games about various lightsaber methods.
The special element that was introduced in this movie was the closeup on the fighters in the final battle. At the beginning we see typical wide framed shots of the fight, especially due to the three-way fight. After Qui-Gon goes down we see Obi-Wan step up his intensity and the fight shifts gear. Once he breaks the double lightsaber into a single piece he presses the attack and the camera closes in to capture the intensity of emotion and concentration on the fighter’s faces. We’d never seen it quite like that before.
Yes, that's it! The fighting had more detail than the characters. I didn't feel a connection to Qui-Gon, but perhaps we weren't meant to. Obi-Wan, however, I have never felt more connected to! And even Vader. And Palpatine. And of course my heart lies with R2 forevs. But that is only because of my own experience with episodes 4-6. For this movie I think it is more of a macro connection than a micro connection. It's the set up and backstory. And if that also happens to include some extra characterization within the fighting scenes, then we deserve it!!

Yes, Ewan McGregor did a sensational job of honouring Sir Alec’s performance.
Much as I enjoyed the Han Solo movie I wished that the main actor had done more to really convince me that he WAS the young Harrison Ford. He was good, but it was leaning towards the idea that he’d never watched Harrison in a scene of Han Solo nor even Indiana Jones.
Hmm I'm pretty picky about actors portraying older actors. I will see if this one passes when the time comes. (And of course the Solo movie will be included!!!)

The guy is actually a great actor, but I was looking to be convinced that it was a young Han Solo and it didn’t do it for me.
I still enjoyed the movie, but we got a better portrayal of other younger characters than we did of the titular character.
To get an idea of how good he can be when he’s on his A-game, try out this short scene from Hail Caesar! where he’s playing a Western movies cowboy actor thrust into the Gatsby-style era of movies. Ralph Fiennes plays director Laurence Laurentz trying to mould him into shape. Brilliant work by both.
