  • Blower Door Testing can help identify and resolve the following:
    1. Uncontrolled ventilation
In Australia, new and old homes can be extremely leaky compared to homes built overseas. As a result, our buildings are “automatically ventilated”. Over-ventilation can contribute to moisture problems, as it can be carried inside from outside air, people also producing more water vapour, by human activity (showers, washing and cooking) which contributes to moisture problems again. That means that you still must ventilate, but we must ventilate more effectively. Permanently open or louvred windows should be avoided, otherwise, your heating costs are going to go up dramatically. A controlled ventilation system (via Energy Recovery Ventilation systems) is the optimum solution. It always provides for the perfect air change.
Small leakages in the building envelope and a lack of insulation are sufficient to let warm and damp indoor air escape. On its way out, the air cools down and the water vapour carried along with it condenses. This condensation can accumulate in the insulation layer and can lead to mould infestation after a few months. Mould can cause damage to certain building materials and therefore can lead to serious building damage. This is why an air and windtight building envelope is absolutely necessary, for building health and energy efficiency.
Windy days can compromise accurate results from a blower door testing service, so it’s important to consider weather conditions on the day, that you are Airtightness testing and draught proofing your home.

I've just completed the UPVC window and door install. I will get a test eventually once the plastering is done !

That’s great to test all 5 sides of the home, but I’d like to know what to do about the results of the tests.

Be cool to see this done on a passive haus.

An energy efficient home or business is more comfortable and saves money in the long run.
Solar energy on your roof combined with battery storage can make people more independent from the grid and natural gas supplies. Add solar and supplemental electric heating, infrared heating or a heat pump for home or business heating and cooling
All big box stores and manufacturing sites can support solar energy on their roofs or solar canopies on their parking lots.
Added insulation, double or triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools.Even if you have money to burn you should not waste it. Climate Change will impact everyone.
