Destructive Severe Thunderstorm, 70+Mph Winds

  • A dangerous severe thunderstorm entered our region on Long Island NY on 7/1/16, immense amounts of tree damage, power was out, one of our neighbors houses suffered extensive tree damage with a large tree that fell on a shed and large limbs were everywhere, along with that many trees were snapped and uprooted and a trampoline was in a pool. Much of the damage that occurred is not shown in this video, I only filmed the damage in our backyard and no this was not a tornado but otherwise a very severe microburst with winds that topped around 60-70mph and could have been higher. things really get bad at around 1:00, but the worst starts at around 1:24, if you look closely you could see a tree fall at around 1:47 in the top left hand corner

    Good God! That is almost a hurricane bro. Damn! You know this weather is unpredictable. At the start of the video, you would never guess what is about to happen. Seen some storms but this is really intense few minutes of pure terror for anybody caught outside by it.

    I'm surprised some comments say it wasn't 70, but I'm pretty certain it was more like 80. I live in Phoenix and have seen frequent storms close to 80. A lot of those trees didn't blow over because of the type of tree.

    • @YeOldeWilly
      @YeOldeWilly  8 років тому +4

      Thanks for viewing! Initially i thought it was around 80 as well but later seemed to realize that it was around 70 and maybe higher, because I have been through 2 tropical storm/hurricanes. The tropical storm contained winds that where topping at 72mph and this storm seemed comparable and maybe even stronger due to the damage that was caused, and yes it is definitely true that Arizona receives very damaging microbursts with winds 80 mph or even higher, as for the trees many of them actually did get snapped in our backyard but only one got uprooted

    Yea that's definatly 60-70mph winds! Awsome video man, this is something that I have always wanted to see in person. I bet videos can't do things like this justice. The sheer power of that wind is frightning! I can only imagin what it REALLY sounded like!

    • @YeOldeWilly
      @YeOldeWilly  8 років тому +2

      Thank you so much for watching! this sounded very loud and was quite scary, I never before witnessed a downburst of this magnitude in person, for weather like this is not a very frequent phenomenon in the area of where i live, since I live in the northeastern tier of the US. Other than this it has been a very hot and dry summer we really lack rainfall this year, I certainly hope there will be more of this kind of stuff next year!

      I guess I never said it yet but on May-31-2017, the day finally came for me to see 60mph wind gusts. The funny thing is it happened on a day when the forecast was just cloudy. I started receiving severe thunderstorm warnings at around 6 pm and at 7:17 pm it started hailing pea sized hail and the wind rapidly picked up. It was crazy and something I will never forget. Large trees over 30 years old were downed on my neighborhood that day. Watching it on video is great and all but to anyone watching this video and reading the comments. The real thing is MUCH scarier, the visibility can drop to zero in these conditions and the wind is loud and destructive. I remember after the storm the air was filled with an odor and I'm not sure what it was. I guess it was the smell of the trees which had been downed and snapped. 60-70 mph winds is some powerful stuff man I'm telling you.

      Weigh too ignorant and careless. Just imagine if it had been a tornado, how many people do you think would stop and stare at it, thinking "well, it's not moving" and then get struck by it? That's the part I find totally incredible. That's how people get killed.

    • @leaf2180
      @leaf2180 4 роки тому

      We get a severe thunderstorm warning here maybe 2-3 times a year for the last 8 years. The last severe storm to actually hit was 8 years ago. Back in June of 2012 lmao. I can definitely say I never take them seriously anymore. I'm never out in the yard during any storm, but I will sit or stand on our covered porch. These weather stations are a joke.

      I can hear you just barely in the background, so I know it was scary. I love storms like this, and I'm from South Florida, and from the sound of the rain and wind, I'd say that's about 80 MPH. I've been through two tornadoes and 3 hurricanes, not to mention tons of severe storms here in Atlanta, Georgia, and that squall is intense! I'd bet that would have hurt if that rain hit you in the face. Glad you were okay after that.

    God I'm hoping for something like this Monday or Tuesday this week in Dallas area. My AC has been running constantly and we have a slight to moderate chance of storms. Anything to cool it off even if it's just a few hours 😩

      It has also been the same for me lately, and I haven't really seen any severe thunderstorms since this one I certainly hope for some big ones on Monday though, I wish you the best luck with the heat and hopefully some storms will hit the Dallas region soon as well :)
