I've had this on my shelf for almost two years now but today I bite the bullet and ordered the other two and plan on reading them soon. Never read Lawrence before so I'm very excited.
I could read a story about Jalan and Snorri doing literally anything. Prince of Fools is a buddy-cop story. lol. This was such a fun read. I mean, Snorri brought the heartfelt moments, which are so important, but Jalan brought the humor.
I’m starting The Liar’s Key pretty soon, so this review was perfectly timed for me. Thanks, my friend! I love the enthusiasm for Snorri and Jalan, the perfect odd couple. Also, the tone is definitely more comedic than in Broken Empire, though there’s some seriously disturbing stuff too. Fantastic to hear your thoughts!
Snorri has a pretty tragic backstory and the fact he's nice kinda made me feel that much more for him. I'm loving their partnership for sure. Look forward to your thoughts on liars key, hopefully getting to that soon as well
Mark Lawrence is definitely a writer that keeps his improving in his craft. His The Book of the Ancestor was even better than his first two trilogies, which is pretty surprising as considering that it's YA through grimdark lens.
Ahhhh-I'm aiming to start RQW next month, and I can't wait. Based on my love of BE, I think I'll also love this one. I'm currently reading Lawrence's Impossible Times trilogy, and I'm actually super into it
This is the more "fun" one, of the two. The main characters are easy to root for and there's lots of laughs as well as heartbreak and darkness. Broken Empire has the protagonist that you shouldn't like, yet you do (well some of us). It's definitely the darker trilogy.
If you start with these you will miss some cameos and the world background. It is a very fascinating post apocalyptic world. Wow, reading both at the same time. That might get a little confusing since they do take place close to the same time. But Jorg is a very polarizing character in how unlikable he is and getting into his head is not supposed to be pleasant. Still need the third Sister book which again is a strange world.
just finished this book. oh boy. if I could see myself in a character, it would be Jalan Kendeth hahaha. very comical. can't wait to read the second book!
@@slowlyred2082 yeah, some of the scenes are hilarious, that's why I asked if prince of thorns is in simmilar tone, becouse I like when humor is added to gritty world..now I know but still gonna read it. 😉😉😏
Hey amazing review bro! Subscribed! I surprisingly haven't read this, probably will soon though!! Been posting some other writing/book related videos too, we should support each other :D
It's interesting to think about following around a morally good character in a grim dark book. In every evil world, there are good people.

I hope you enjoy the trilogy as much as I do. Glad you're giving Lawrence a shot 👍

Absolutely, I kinda forgot to mention snorri's tragic backstory.. but people will find out when they read 🙃

Interesting video and review. Next year I'm going to read The Broken Empire trilogy and if I enjoy it, I will go onto these novels.
Just finished this. Man I loved it. Can't wait to read the rest.
An amazing ride all the way through 👍

Yeah, I'm getting ready to read red sister really soon. Its the November read along on the channel discord.
Gotta finish priest of bones 👍

Jalan is alot of fun.
Hopefully getting into the impossible times trilogy this summer.. seeing how I own all the books, they stare at me...
@@slowlyred2082 lmao. I feel you on the staredowns 😂 I've got the same problem
Fantastic review. Great insights
as always.
Thanks brother 🙏
I own both Prince of Thorns and this book...still debating on which I'm going to tackle first!

He's a barrel of laughs and and a ton of fun
Nice review, yeah I liked Jalan's shenanigans too
I wasn't really expecting this laugh riot character, but I really had a lot of fun following him.

Prince of Thorns is hilarious as well.. but in a dark gallows twisted humor way 🙃
this should be a interesting review
Hopefully you enjoy 😉
great video!
Gahh, I still have to read this.
It's a lot of fun, definitely a change of pace from broken empire.
Snorri has a tragic story but Jalan is the biggest clown.
Hehe, Yup, had me some laugh out loud moments too.
This was a great read. ^_^

Thank you 🙏
Absolutely 💯
liked this series better than prince of thorns series the main characters are much more likable
Yeah, I loved following Jorg but without a doubt Jalan is the easiest to digest of the two and he's hilarious
