They had absolutely zero right to give Bopoto such a fierce introduction and then have her be a nothing-burger 'whatever kind of movies you like' character. I kept expecting her to be a dark horse villain who totally pushed Wesley Snipes aside and became the main antagonist. And my husband expected her to be smart and capable and a strong potential future leader for Zamunda, and for she and Lavelle to actually click and be a well-suited match. So much wasted potential in Bopoto. She ended the dance by grabbing Lavelle by the throat -- how is she *NOT* a maneater?! Or, at the very least, a dom instead of a sub?

@@murphybrown1366 It looked like it was trying to cover at least 3 story lines. And they fit several movies into one. Blew the budget on way too many 3 second cameos instead of paying the writers more for a decent script.
And the cringy CGI animals!!! Arrggh! George of the jungle had more realistic Elephants and lions. And that was made in the 90s.
I felt there were so many story lines that should have been flushed out more, if they could have just stuck to one.
And there is something about Eddie Murphy... his heart is not in it anymore...
Hes so low energy, and he put no effort in his accent, unlike the original movie.
But Wesley Snipes for me was the best thing about the movie! He was so on point. And surprisingly really funny! And Arsenio Hall also put in a lot of effort.
It was hard work watching it ..

I remember watching the 1st version. There is no basis for comparison. The way movies were done then and now are completely different. The audiences were different. The great movies of the 80s and early 90s are still the best for me because directing and acting were much deeper, thoughtful and serious than today.

The first Coming to America was a classic and great movie for the 80s. Part 2 stands on its own rather than a sequel. Still entertaining but I don't think anyone would remember it after so many years. The movie doesn't seem to tap deep into the viewers emotions. The emotional value is packed into a stage-like acting and broadway- like entertainment.
