My grandpa once saved a baby merganser when I was about 12 and we were fishing on his boat in a river. Mama duck and siblings had gotten across the water and were on the opposite bank. The baby had gotten caught in the current and was having trouble making it. Mama was frantic, calling and running down the bank. My grandpa moved his boat over to to the struggling duckling scooped it up in a fishing net and brought it over to its family.
I swear I didnt know a duck could look relieved, but mama sure did.
