Ok, c'mon, that interview was superb. I love how spontaneous, relaxed, and short answer the format was. Maybe you guys can make a habit of doing these with various pros. I'd watch them all.
I interviewed MvDP after he won a stage of the Tour of Britain in Kendal. He had just ridden across the country and sprinted up the fearsome "Beast Banks" to win the stage in Kendal, Cumbria. He was on the turbo trainer warming down and it was as though he had just done a leisurely Sunday afternoon jaunt. I stuck a microphone in his face and he was very polite and happy to talk. It's only when you get close to these guys that you realise how fit they are. I could feel the power radiating from him!
Kudos to Si "Lone Wolf" Richardson for carrying another GCN show solo. Dan will hopefully be back next week to help Mr. "Wolf" figure out his right arm from his left for the Hack or Bodge intro.
If Dan is living in an area where he has to mow his lawn in late november then he has officially forfeited his right to say that he lives in an area where there are adverse winter conditions for cycling.
It looked like he was mowing the lawn at a large community center or perhaps a UCI building - doing penance for the recent Zwift height conundrum perhaps?
Cool to see the power generating trainer become a commercial thing. We built our own using recycled parts and an old alternator. So satisfying to ride and power the laptop, charge a phone etc...
The most impressive thing about the MVdP interview is not that he so amiably dealt with Lloydy's inane questions but that he was doing so while cooling down and probably 400 watts.
caption: singing: Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone
Final hack/bodge; enjoyed Si’s use of the phrase ‘an absolute shoe-in’. Am sure it caused a few heads to be scratched but then you can’t tease a trout without custard as we say!
17:24 Si, how can't you see the smartness of the tool? It's even written in the description! It allows to fit the quick link while holding together the 2 sides of the open chain, fighting against the rear derailleur tension. It's definitely a hack!
Van der Poel's best discipline is mountain bike. His win rate is most ridiculous there. In 2019 he won something like 27 out of 29. Of course mountain bikers know the best mountain biker in the world!
I thought these questions would be clumsy or horrible, but MVDP kept saying how good they were. And I agree. He was a good sport considering he was on a trainer.
Love the new GCN training crowd, but for old times’ sake, would you and Dan consider doing a training session again for us….and also ask Matt S to do one too? Loyal Nova Scotia GCN fan, Bronwyn Duffy
Idea for a new GCN series: like the show “hot ones” get pros on a training bike, make them do high power intervals, then proceed to hit them with deeper and deeper questions while they’re in the pain cave.
His reply about choosing mountain biking must be truly terrifying for all pro mountain bikers. If he stopped and focused solely on MTB can you imagine the outcome!
As an American woman, I very much enjoyed Ruth and Taylor's perspective on women's professional cycling in the Circle of Death film. Their friendship is sweet too.
I could have really used the quick link holder (twice) because the link that came with my KMC X11 chains simply didn't fit, no matter what tools I used. That would have helped.
Recently new to drop bar bikes alway rode BMX and MTB bought a Gbike 4 years ago and love it. don’t really get the road bike/rim brake/leg shave/Lycra scene but I’m a massive fan of MVDP cx videos, lads got skills. Funny how he didn’t get the English sense of humour questions 😁 Tenner on him winning gravel WC.
Very cool tech and made right for our quarantine here in HongKong as a air purifier is required in your room if you want to be allowed to use your trainer …
Caps: peak up or peak down? Did any of Mathieu’s answers surprise you?
Yeah, surprised that he chose mountain biking
"Mountain Biking" 🙄 Disappointed, but not surprised.
@@regunationsregunations6662 Me too...
Surprised that he knows Dan's name aswell, wow
Mountain biking

And he was doing 500W average for the interview
Wouldn't be surprised if a big part of it was also because of how cool Van Der Poel seems to be. Great guy!
It is so great to see that MVDP, despite winning so many races, is such a nice and modest guy.
Kudos to Mathieu. He was a very good sport and very kind and diplomatic in his responses.
MVDP answering some questions while riding at my FTP
Only if your FTP is at least somewhere around 250W I guess :D
as it turned out I was 'riding' with MvdP on zwift while this interview was taking place. (I didn't last that long)
I can't sustain his wattage there during the length of that interview

Standing beside a cooling down MvDP is a good warming up for us mere mortals 😂

wow mvdp is more thoughtful than I would have anticipated a younger pro to be.
I think he's been racing for 20 years now.

vdP interview was fantastic. More of that sort of thing, please.
MVDP is the man. This was awesome, please do more rapid fire interviews like this.

I thought the worst day had to be the mountain bike race at Olymia.

he really needs to get a bike with a lawnmower attachment. No excuse to not get on the bike

Sure at the end of the story about the New Zealand politician cycling to the maternity unit, he should have said "cycling has the power to deliver ".
Is she riding a 'delivery' bike?
Most surprising answer from mvdp? "Roubaix, or did I win that one already?"
Caption competition:
These bikes are made for walkin'

Legend, i thought that that win at tour de France on second stage winning yellow would be his best day on a bike
Maybe Dan is holding out to become the first anchor of the Grass Cutting Network.
My best MvdP moment this year was his finish at Strade Bianche.
That question about what keeps him awake at night has not aged well 😂😅😂
he will probably get his revenge this year
Awesome and fun interview with MVDP. Not done badly at all! Loved the questions. Next, capture Wout van Aert for an interview ;-)
Caption fixed for ya: "Unlike golf, cyclocross is a good walk soiled"
Are they tired, or did they suffer a hole in one?
Cool to see the power generating trainer become a commercial thing. We built our own using recycled parts and an old alternator. So satisfying to ride and power the laptop, charge a phone etc...
Y'all really asked the guy who was better, him or Wout Van Aert 🤣 I think that was the most stressful question. 😅
Great interview format , do it again with more riders
Cool interview... pls. do one with Wout as well.. same questions..
I would like him to compare his performance 2021 strade bianche vs 2019 AGR. Both legendary 👌
The most impressive thing about the MVdP interview is not that he so amiably dealt with Lloydy's inane questions but that he was doing so while cooling down and probably 400 watts.

Si: "I don't want to be pedantic"
Please do these Interviews much more its super cool
I just noticed that for every time that Ollie says "AERO", Si says "Oh my word"
Peak up! I would have laughed if MVDP had said that Matt Stephens was his favorite presenter :)

It's definitely a hack!
MVDP should have been interviewed on GMBN. He said he’d choose mountain biking over road.
I am happy to see them ride in flanders. And in a few weeks in the cyclocross 🔥
Mathieu Van Der Poel is my favorite😁😁
23:40 when Si is flexing his wrists it sounds like studded tires on a highway! Although my wrists make the same cracking / grinding sounds
It's so cute that Si got to meet his idol, we should all be so lucky. Would be awesome to meet someone I look up to...Si, maybe one day😁
Given his answer on mountain biking, I wonder if MVDP is as well known among the GMBN crowd (and if there is scope to get him on there too)? 🤔

Yes most avid mountain bikers know and follow MVDP.

I was really surprised MvdP chose MTB over road and cross. That was the one I’d least expect him to answer,
Mdvp’s answer to Pogacar breaking the Tour wins record. Is he thinking 6 or 8 Tours for the record?

Six is the correct number for breaking the record, according to the RECORD book.
