I started walking in sand with shoes last week, and then barefoot in sand yesterday to try and improve my feet. Even after the shoes on walk, my next shift at work was more comfortable.

How great is that response ?! Well done- keep it going but go slow. Too much too soon can overload the tissues .

@@freestylefeet2063 I try to do at least 2 4km walks a week, and only a few hundred metres is on the sand.

I have a sensory nerve disorder, maybe CMT 2X? I am very scared of walking on sand. I thought I'd start to do your sandpit exercises first. Do you think it will improve my prioperception or just plateau my foot strength. Can you recommend someone on the upper Central Coast NSW?

Ok start slow, use the sandpit - we use things like sand and smooth pebbles to assist in nerve desensitisation, but please be mindful of overload and go slowly.

send us an email to info@freestylefeet.com.au and we can see if someone in our network is in that region. For sure Sunshine Coast QLD, but maybe not that far south

Thank you sharing this. I live near the beach which sand it great for strengthening the muscles also. Yes very unstable and can be very challenging. For myself at present I have loss of metatarsal pad on left foot which feels like my two little toes have something stuck there and creates pressure and a spur on left big toe which hurts now with no shoes on so I need to wear shoes. I do wear your toe separators now when at home but they do hurt the toes after a while due to the arthritis. The pain is still present wearing them and I can feel the loss of padding, I think that is due to problem is worsening. I am wearing a metatarsal gel raiser which helps to off load.
I can do the other two exercises which I used to do when on the beach now and then but was not aware of the benefits. Thanks so much.
Is there a particular exercise you could suggest please for the metatarsal area with issues I stated above please?

Hi there and thanks for your message - this is a common issue. Strengthening the short, plantar muscles of the arch can really help with this issue. Digging the toes down into the sand is a good start. - this is another video that really helps strengthen these muscles - which in turn seems to help the fat pad pull down and cushion the metatarsal heads - ua-cam.com/video/Tc5yGN8ftz8/v-deo.html
