most steel based tools have gone up about 40% over the past 4 years due to supply chain and tariff issues. A LOT of hand tools and pocket knives have gone up. Because yeah, I have a wingman and got it on sale for 35 at the time. Great for simple home adjustments, but sure as hell not really worth more than about 50!
Unfortunately that marketing mindset is still happening.. Have you seen the Stanley cups nonsense. And Pokémon cards... It's still a 2020-2024 marketing tactic.
Same here. A buddy is always trashing the cost, but is constantly breaking his cheap tools. He could have bought a couple of arcs for what he spent in a year. Roxon/Nextool junk just isn't holding up like LM/Gerber/SOG, since they will have discontinued a tool within a year for a new model. I kinda don't like learning new tools every month or two. Good ideas don't replace good quality and a real warranty for long run models. I find the ARC is a good deal. $199.99 now and that is what Magnacut knives alone cost made in the US. Plus, I try to spend my money in-country as much as I can. I once bought the cheap stuff and really ended up finding all of it a bit junky.
Leatherman supposedly announced only 5000 Obsidian Arcs would be made, so it's not really fair to characterize it as discontinued. It was a limited run-they made the amount they said and those happened to sell out.
I bought an ARC, and bought another two weeks later on pay-in-4. $199.99 each NIB. Haven't been impressed in a while, and that tool really hit the ball out of the park.
Woah thanks for shouting out the channel! The P4 is important in my mind because until I went into the multitool business, $150 was the most I’d ever consider spending on a multitool. I think it’s an important price point for the majority of users so fingers crossed my speculation was correct😅
bought an arc when they put it on sale for 15% off on the insider thing, which hopefully gets me more than 15% in the next yearly sale, nice to see them finally have some sales, I might pick up a skeletool and the bigger raptor in the next yearly sale
Same here. Makes me wonder what people are doing to break the clip. I own the whole free family including the T4 and K4. Never had any issues with the pocket clip or the tools themselves for that matter.
I had one that lost retention in a month or so, got a new one free of charge from leathermam and my new was perfect, has held up over time just fine. Breaking it though is unthinkable, how?
I have checked your links and the Leatherman website and CANNOT FIND the Skeletool you have with that Fluorescent hammer piece!! Can you please elaborate on how or where to get it??
The end piece is an aftermarket part they sell them on eBay and Etsy, just put skeletool hammer piece in the search box, there are a few different people making-offering them. I was looking for a new EDC multitool and sometimes I need to apply force to something and was looking at this option I don't want to ruin my nice Swiss Army Knife I currently carry.
So, in summation: Leatherman's having a sale, so their tools go from outrageous to simply expensive. A third party is fixing another Leatherman design flaw. More colours amongst the ranks. Artificial scarcity up to 11. More of the active patents in stock. Better warranty if you give them more moolah, but if you try to sell your new property on to someone else, then that gets scrapped. Apparently, the obsidian was never available in Australia ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2:46 yes! I’ve broken two clips on my Free K2. With my height it’s in the perfect position to snag on door latch plates (of all things!) and snaps right off. Even without that they are always bent after a month or two.
@@hvacbudget8600 AND! The first time it happened it cost me my K4! In the five or whatever business days it took to get a new clip from Leatherman (because I couldn’t find them on Amazon or any brick and mortar stores), I kept the knife in my pocket without a clip and wouldn’t you know it, at some point it slipped out, never to be seen again. Couldn’t find a K4 in stock anywhere at the time, so now I have the K2, which like I said has had the clip break off a second time.
I'd go higher than 25 but the clones or roxon offer a far value and better driver. For IT work i need 1/4" drive for good quality bits i can get anywhere. The companion even provides scissors and replaceable tools. Wake up LM, colors are a gimmick.
My arc clip has come off several times. Wish it had a t6 instead of two flatheads. It recently happened on a trip whilst far from a t6 bit. I was pissed. Love the tool, but it was expensive. I shouldn't have that problem.
😂 The ARC is using the free series platform. Those titanium pocket clips from Donk! will fit just fine. They look great too with those laser engraved patterns.

Reckon prices on raw material do have some effects on cost of steel/iron ore etc. Gradually some prices will come down, perhaps due to a new guy in The White House.?
Any of these that aren't made in the US are still over priced. They're losing money to the companies who are making modular tools, when you can get one for similar or even less money and put whatever tools you want in it.
These are the sale prices?? Last I checked, those were the normal prices! Dang, times change.

The obsidian was a scarcity thing. I feel like Leatherman is still in the marketing mindset of 2014 where artificial scarcity was a fad in marketing.

Keeping the p2 and p4 is the most exciting Leatherman news.
