    Can't believe this is posted. I received the double cassette set for my 6th birthday. This album is THE standard for the Purim Story for children (and adults!). The album is a work of brilliance: The adaptations from Gemara and Midrash, the voices, the emotion capturing, and most of all the culture references, the beautiful songs, all make this album an absolute masterpiece and necessity in any Jewish home. I play this for my kids yearly and am very proud that they are beginning to recite parts of the album by heart! Kirsch and Rudolph et al have made an indelible mark on chinuch.

    Thanks for posting this! My favourite song is "We can do teshuva!" Question: I've love to use that piece of soundtrack for a teshuva shiur I'm recording. Does anyone know how I can get permission to do that? From whom?

      Hi Efraim, please contact us for rights and permissions. We would be happy to work with you. The Purim Story was initially created under the ToraVision label by Rabbi Yossi Kirsch and Sruly Greenwald. Today, we are known as Professor Torah.

    I question the versions of stories that malign Vashti and Lilith.

    • @justcogitating
      @justcogitating 3 роки тому +5

      These tapes are quite openly based on a variety of Midrashim. The Midrashim that cast Vashti in a negative light were included in the Babylonian Talmud, dating back to about 500 CE. The Jerusalem Talmud, which dates to 350 CE and is generally considered slightly less authoritative, paints Vashti in a much less negative light-- although it still says that her untimely end was a heavenly punishment for sin. You can read more about the different depictions of Vashti across Talmudic texts here: jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/vashti-midrash-and-aggadah
      Ultimately, reading Vashti as a villain is based on a tradition that is centuries old. That does not invalidate the plain reading of the text, from which it is easy to see Vashti as a victim. But given the nature of this particular recording-- clearly intended for children and based heavily on midrash-- I think choosing this reading was reasonable. For children, getting into the question as to whether Vashti was really a villain or victim would be confusing and would distract from the main point of the Purim story.
